I am very skeptical... the delays make me think that it would be more difficult for the board designer to create a working prototype and their business position in general makes me worry that the chips might not happen or might happen 100, 200, 300 days too late. Is this a strategy to fund their current operations a bit longer? How deep in the red are they?
If some reputable forum members decided it was worth the risk and went down that road (like the steamboat/bkk group buy) I would be interested, but I doubt they will given BFL's history.

You mean BFL? Of course not; they're a for-profit, and, up-to-now, proprietary IP company. But it they're going to sell chips, IMO they need to provide detailed guidance on enabling circuits and share their experiences -good and bad- in PCB design issues. Otherwise, why buy the chips?
BFL has done very bad things in the past year. Who guarantees that will not last.

Is it just me, or does something seem cart ahead of horse, about all of this? BFL has a functional chip: no question. But even in Jally's, there was redesign required. They shipped a couple (?) SC prototypes in the last weeks (two weeks?), but unless I've missed something, true mass production is not yet occurring.
To their credit, they now release the schematics for the SC, which they've been working on for 12 months or more, and the community embraces that as the Holy Grail that will lead to functional DIY equipment from the chips.
My question is this: if BFL is stuck in some technical mud on the SC design, a year up the experience curve, how can the DIY community feel secure in using the furnished road maps to build out?
Personally, if I had a dog in the ring, before I'd commit, I'd want to see some eyeballs on the documents from some who can bring to the BFL DIY what BKKcoins represents to the Avalon DIY's: someone with unquestioned technical credentials, and no personal agenda.
