Sorry it is this way, but you usually just... don't. The era of mining with your computer is just gone, simple as that. If you want to buy expensive ASIC machines specialized in mining, go for it, but they are hefty investments. Just buy bitcoins if you want to be a part of it.

In summary pretty much that buy Bitcoins perhaps mine altcoins if you want to learn about mining, or reinvest in powerful hardware for Bitcoin mining IF an ROI can be reached (Big IF)

Is that .40$ or .04$ ? Also if he gets free power and uses the laptop for school (turns miner off for homework and classes(assuming 4 hours on average) you would be making .65$ cents a day, this would be about 2 litecoins a month which could eventually go up in price but your Laptop would be dead in a year. So its a pretty HUGE negative ROI even given free power.

If you're turning a miner on and off thermal expansion and contraction will kill the board. This happened with some of my 6950s that had flaky internet access. I had to have them reflowed - good luck doing that on a laptop. Laptops just aren't meant to mine.

- electricity costs and wear and tear on your laptop. Laptops aren't built to dissipate the heat properly running 24\7 at max load.

you can mine some cpu / gpu altcoins, but the income will be pretty miniscule, probably less than the power costs.

laptop GPUs suck for mining, they are confined in a small space so they are restricted by how hot they will get compared to a PCI GPU

Seriously?! You posted a question in the Hardware forum and you didn't bother to look at one other thread? This forum is absolutely FILLED with topics pertaining to ASIC miners and not one other recent thread is devoted to GPU or CPU mining.

They sold out 3 batches. Wait for them to start selling Batch 4. You need to buy 2 of them at once. If you can't afford that I would suggest not mining and to buy the coin directly - you'll probably end up better off.

It looks like a good computer sadly most recommend not to mine with laptop's it just is not worth it.

Look int asic equipment as mentioned. Depending on budget really picks where is best for you to start.

You don't mine Bitcoin with CPU and GPU anymore. You can if you really want to, but you prolly won't even earn 1 satoshi from 24 hours of continuous mining. Bitcoin hashpower is now measured in Ghs, not Mhs. Mine with an ASIC or not at all.
