But if it's finite, then what is surrounding it? And what is it expanding into?

I have always thought of the universe as being finite but unbounded (i.e. no edge). I would say that the thing it is expanding into is time.
The analogy is blowing up a balloon. you start with an un-inflated balloon. It has a finite small surface, and you can go anywhere on the surface and eventually get back to your starting point. Mark some dots on your path. They will have a certain spacing between them.
Then you start to blow up the balloon. It expands, and the surface of the balloon expands. The spacing between the dots increases. But still you can travel all the way around the finite surface of the balloon to reach your starting point - it's just that the balloon got bigger over time.
The surface of a balloon obviously being 2 dimensional (forwards and sideways) - just raise the analogy by an extra dimension to see the universe as a 3d surface of a 4d object (with time as the fourth dimension).

Just a theory, but it's one I like.

How can we truly understand infinity, when we are only finite beings, that have a beginning (birth) & an end (death)?

It's circle within circle, infinite just like your "empty" soul and the incarnations that you will go through life after life or death after death.

damn that deep bro.

Infinite in many ways (dimensions) finite in others (time), but maybe it is impossible to measure, from within this confine, or "plane of existence".

If you bring God you have to bring life after death, and if you bring that you have to bring life before being born. Where do we come from, and where do we go. I'd rather pick the agnosticism route, as its less arrogant than atheism, which by definition demands faith into not believing something you might never be able to grasp in the first place...

And, if time started at big bang, what was there before it?

Physics... where the fun starts.

I think the right answer is universe is immeasurable so no one can tell if it’s finite or infinite.and besides who cares about that?isn't the important thing is we have universe and we are living because of that?i don’t know why people asking things that has nothing to do for them lol

I've been fascinated with space and cosmos ever since I got my senses xD

With all the mysteries out there with the universe and its weird laws and questions, one such question that boggles our mind is whether the universe is finite or infinite?!

If it's infinite, then isn't it a violation of science since according to it, everything must have an end?!

But if it's finite, then what is surrounding it? And what is it expanding into?

Thoughts?
I think universe is infinite. no one  can measure its length But GOD knows
If something called infinite then it can't be measured, and I have a question where GOD lives?

Scientifically there is nothing called god but there is proof for that we are not living alone in this universe.

You know how if you keep going east around earth, lets say you start in canada, you fly past uk, fly past eu, fly past russia, fly past alaska and back into canada.
That is how the universe it, it is (round), but kind of like pacman, you go out one side of the screen and come out the other.

There is wormholes/blackholes that lead to other multiverses.
There is also a giant one we are all headed towards. Some call it the event horizon. Everything goes into it.

There is a great futurama episode that explains it.

Steven Hawkins used to say that no matter how fast a long you travel you won't reach the end of universe. I don't see a reason not to trust him
Lol he says that because there is no enough engine and the capacity of human to reach the end and he says that long time ago, world change now and we have all the resources to do whatever we want, maybe not for now but sooner people will go further to prove the end of the universe

I think there is an end to space, we just haven't found it.
Exactly mate ,because universe is very wide to have reached but for sure in time we can find ways to have

ALL THE RADIO SIGNALS SENT INTO SPACE HUMANITY HAS REACHED A DISTANCE EQUAL TO THAT OF THE BLUE POINT. NO WONDER WE HAVEN'T MET INTELLIGENT LIFE.

OUR GALAXY IS THE RUNT COMPARED TO SOME OTHERS. HERE'S THE MILKY WAY COMPARED TO IC 1011.

HERE IS HOW OUR EARTH LOOKS FROM SATURN

LET'S LOOK AT THE EARTH WITHOUT WATER. THIS STONE IS NOT A PERFECT SHAPE.

DO YOU THINK THE GALAXY IS THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD? AND IF YOU LOOK INSIDE OF US. TRILLIONS OF CELLS WORK THERE ALL THE TIME. FOR EXAMPLE, WHITE BLOOD CELLS ATTACK A PARASITE.
http://ipic.su/img/img7/fs/zYfvzc.1560439230.gif

AND THEY CONSIST OF SUCH MOLECULES. THAT'S WHAT WE ARE.

BUT THAT'S NOTHING! JUST IMAGINE YOUR BODY IS APPROXIMATELY 7.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 ATOMS, EACH OF WHICH IS BILLIONS OF YEARS OLD. AND THAT'S ALL WE KNOW SO FAR…

THE QUESTION ARISES: WOULD IT NOT BE LOGICAL TO ASSUME THAT IN ELEMENTARY PARTICLE HAS ITS OWN UNIVERSE, AS INFINITE AS THOSE WE KNOW? AND WHERE IS WHAT WE CALL THE UNIVERSE?

THERE IS SOMETHING TO PONDER?

I will say it is finite but we don't measure it in our mind or anything but one day we will find the equipment for the measurement of this universe that is the time I expected to see what happened next and what is available next

Both  Grin.  We can imagine how it is.  Theories are made not out of facts but of hypothesis and imagination of who ever thought of that theory.  This things are accepted because no one can't prove it wrong but stay theory because the author cannot prove it right to be  a fact.  This show how creative a human mind is.  Imagine measuring distance of planets and counting numbers of stars when a person himself can't count his own hair  Grin

Depends on what you mean by Universe.  If by that you mean a single system of galaxies, stars, planets and all matter then it is definitely finite, from both science and religious perceptive.
There is this theory about the existence of multiple universes or multiverse. It is theorized that there are infinite numbers universes in existence & randomly being created just like other heavenly bodies like galaxies, stars and planets are "constantly being created". However, no one has observed stars and galaxies being created not to talk of universes.  They are probably myths just like other numerous pseudo-science myths such as dolphins slowly turning into dogs or dinosaurs growing wings.

There is a couple of theories we could talk about that propose the existence of a multiverse.

In the String Theory, there are 11 dimensions: 1 time dimension plus 10 spacial dimensions the idea is that tall these spaces are different extemal points in a large multi-dimensional space. Each verse is like a bubble in an ocean made out of dark energy,

The many-worlds interpretation in Quantum Mechanics states that new verses are created all the time, where each possibility that can exist does exist; let's put it this way, in Schrodinger's cat experiment, when you open the box, one universe is created where the cat is alive and another where the cat is dead.

I personally don't find the many-worlds theory sound, but I incline to believe in the existence of a multiverse as string theory states.
