Go to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search;advanced and you will have some useful filters such as by username, boards and days.

Thanks! This works.
Guess there is still a lot in this forum that I have to find out about.

The forum search is limited to where you are on the forum. If you are within a thread, and you use the search box at the top, it's only going to search in that thread. If you are within a childboard (at the topic listing), it will only search in that board. If you want to search the entire board you need to go to the search page or the main page, with the board listing.

Google does tend to be more accurate overall, but forum search is useful for certain things, so it's good to know how it works.

Is there any way to search within your own posts or a particular user's posts?
If I go to the list of my posts and search, the results thrown up are from the entire forum.

Per the information shared, I definitely found that Google is the way to go when looking for something very specific. I hope that the new forum improves their search capabilities. I don't mind using google, per say, but it would be nice if we could do it from within the forum itself.

Thanks everyone!

[Edit:
You should click on search item in the menu, not the search field and button.

The search page is a google search form for this site specific, how google search works is just the same as it would work normaly. Being specific in your search you can use quotation marks, + and - signs. Best would be to search on google how to search on googlesearch, not only nice to know and learn for this forum, but also for searching in general!

This works well too - but I found that using the same parameters via this method, and from google's search page, the google results turned up a larger quantity of fairly accurate results.]

Yes, the search function of this forum is really sucks, the best way is use Google.

Only the time limit causes problem. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search;advanced. Better than using Google search.

you may google like that;
site:bitcointalk.org spesific thread
https://www.google.com.tr/?gws_rd=ssl#safe=off&q=site:bitcointalk.org+specific+thread&spell=1
or
site:bitcointalk.org "spesific thread"
https://www.google.com.tr/?gws_rd=ssl#safe=off&q=site:bitcointalk.org+%22specific+thread%22

ps: using quotation marks means exact results.

If there's a thread addressing this, a link would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to search a specific thread, or a specific $string, ie, "search a specific thread"? I tried searching for this exact $string using quotes, and search+a+specific+thread - obviously without success.

Thanks!
