I don't think there's an option to ignore anyone here. As in, of course there will be irrelevant posts everywhere on the internet even if signatures were banned, there will be spammers, trolls etc so just choosing to ignore anyone who wears a signature would be a little generalization. However, I do like the implementation of ignore button so we can ignore individually any known scammer/spammer.

And the funny part is that such a naive ignore pattern would ignore theymos. Bossian, you DON'T want to ignore the forum admin, Do you? Granted, its only a bitcoin address, but its a signature none the less Smiley

Plot twist: Those with sigs are on theymos' ignored list all along Cheesy

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the best option is to set up an ignore list manually, that's a lot of work though, not the ideal solution.

snip

The ignore button works very well for me and I don't see it as a hard work to do. You just use that button when you see an user shitposting.

Of course, if you're going to specifically look for those shitposting through threads and ignore all of them, it's gonna take a loong time and will probably be boring as hell.

But if you take them out one by one randomly when you're posting in a thread, they'll all be ignored in no time and you won't even notice the effort you're doing.

Do you think such massive ignore list would make your reading experience better? I doub. I imagine that then 90% of posts that you will see would be made by Newbie noobs who can't even wear signature. Is it something what you want to read? And at the same time you would ignore almost all best forum members like theymos, who also have signature which isn't commercial. Actually, very small part of active forum users don't have any signature at all.

Bossian, in my opinion, the best way to make a forum better for you is to manually ignore every user whose messages you no longer want to see. You don't have to do it with some kind of timeline, nor should it be a list of thousands of users. Use the forum as you always use it, and just ignore users/s if for some reason you think they are posting only for the purpose of making money, not an actual discussion.

Personally, I'm against blocking all users who have a signature, because doing so you would lose the ability to read really good posts.

My none alt has a signature that has no advertising so if he blocks it he would not be serving himself much good.

One by one on a-hole posts is much better.

<…> On topic:  apparently it's not possible to ignore all members who have a signature, but another possible way would be to ignore all members who have earned less than X merit. It would mean the guy who has 250 merits but none of them were earned from posting, would be in the ignore list. However the guy who started with 0 merit and earned X merit would be off the ignore list, sounds like a good solution too.
That would put on ignore most a vast majority of the forum members, and, depending on the boards/threads you read, it could turn the reading of the threads into a pretty weird one (i.e. only seeing 3 posts out of 20, being those 3 posts not consecutive could lack the complete context to their content).

Actually, why not just disable signatures through the settings? Not all of them are shitposters especially those with more senior ranks.

And since some of us have a sig, are you gonna add us to the list too?

Hi,
I was looking for some information about trading.... I haven't made a losing trade since 2018

I'd just ignore everybody if I was you.
To be fair I follow some good traders on Youtube and Twitter, don't want to be overconfident and that's why getting more tips on such forum would be nice as well.

@ o_e_l_e_o you are obviously right, Legendary members can also post nonsense but just thought they are more likely to write good stuff. At least not stuff that looks like it was written by a bot Smiley

This one is the old script but I think it is still helpful to let you know about it. Signature Adblock Script [0.5.0]. Then, someone who love coding might go further with it. No signature, no ban adds.

So far I know that this forum is a free place to express opinions and talk whether they use signatures or not. But this freedom also has rules that must be obeyed, as dont threaten, trolling, or direct others to phishing sites. You do not need to bother when finding other posts that are not useful on the thread that you make, because you have the right to ignore them one by one and also report these posts to the moderator. Unwittingly, you are also actively contributing to the fight against spammers and shitpost in the forums.

Changing your account preferences so they dont display signatures and avatars will only apply to you, and that won't change people habits to post even if you dont see signatures.

Not all signatures are bad. Some members promoting bounties, and really great and helpful posters.

In my opinion, it's far better to add individual members to your ignore list.

years ago danny had me on his list. he took me off the list.

I eventually end my paid signature about 2016 or early 2017.
I did list two none paid endorsements in 2018 i ended that in 2019 maybe late 2018.

i am  one of the few people with a signture that simply states what i believe.

and my avatar is just a photo of a cool motor tryke .

This would make this place so much easier to read. Thanks for your consideration.
Apart from the suggestion of ignoring as you go, why not clean up the space as well. It's tedious and provides little reward except that you make the forum an easier place to read. When you find a spammy, low quality, off-topic, or repetitive post use report to moderator and you will be able to see a noticeable change. When I had more time I would go around near the end of campaign payment periods and sweep through Bitcoin discussion to clear away spam. You can also report entire threads to be locked if they've just become a repetitive spam fest.

I figured if enough people wound up missing payment that week because they had several posts reported and deleted they may get the point and either contribute something of value or move on. I didn't specifically target users to be clear, I would just find threads that were spam fests. Also merit is a better metric than rank these days, good luck.

for example put all the members who have a signature, and maybe exclude from this very large group the legendary members
and made a rules that only Legendary Member can join. Smiley
Being Legendary doesn't automatically mean you make good posts. There are still plenty of active accounts which became Legendary before the merit system and post complete trash or bounty spam. Similarly, being a Legendary on the forum doesn't necessarily mean you have a lot of crypto knowledge, and being a Newbie on the forum doesn't mean you are a newbie to crypto. There are plenty of very good posters with ranks below Legendary. There are also plenty of very knowledgable posters who wear a signature, and ignoring all their posts would not be in your own interest.

Better to build your own ignore list from scratch, but even better than that, would be to also report the low value spam posts which you are seeing. Why not help to clean up the threads to make reading them easier for you and others, whilst also depriving the spammers of the payment they get for spamming? Or, as others have mentioned, create you own self moderated thread, and you can delete the posts yourself.

Need Campaign Manager?PM on telegram @sujonali1819
If you put them all on ignore, you'd probably be left with only members with the rank of Newbie that can't advertise in their signature space.
Agreed. Interesting point. This will be the reality if you put all sig promoter in your ignore list. Because you can not find any members with out any signature in their profile. Even some high ranked member wearing their own service/helpful links in their profile. So it also be a sig wearing person. Only very rear member are without sig in this forum. And most of them are finding a new sig campaign.

IMO there are two solution, one that are previously said manually input members who you don’t like, secondly create a paid topic with your question and ask people to participate and made a rules that only Legendary Member can join. Smiley

The signature worn by members isn't really your problem but the quality of posts. Editing your profile to not show signature like what mole0815 and ChuckBuck suggested won't stop those same people from posting in those same threads. Creating your own thread to start a discussion then make it self-moderated is probably your best bet of getting rid of irrelevant replies.

In fact, many users with signatures are still very active in their posts, so ignoring them all is unfair  Roll Eyes I think you should ignore the users that you don't like, it will take a lot of time but that's the best way

Or if you feel uncomfortable with the signatures on this forum, you can ignore it in the account settings: Look and Layout Preferences

Honestly, this is the first thing that comes to my mind when reading your title LOL  Grin

Ditty! £ $ ₹ € ¥ ¢ ≠ ÷ ™
Say for example you picked a random signature campaign to ignore such as ChipMixer, even though you don't see the post, the person who created the post gets $6 per post they made.

It's a hard one to answer which is a better campaign to view or ignore. Some start and fizzle out while users wear one badge they are vieing for the next fix/hit  by asking to join a new signature campaign while wearing the previous campaign signature. (Effectively being paid to jump ship)

You'll find out who the shit posters are (the ones who are ten feet tall and bullet proof shooting their mouths off while being paid by managers who tick the box user X, Y and Z have done 100 character posts)

Ignoring the post doesn't stop the posts from occurring.

It might be 3 years out of date now, but DannyHamilton's custom ignore list is here.  Add those names to get started, then just continue to ignore bad posters as you see them.

Hi,

I was looking for some information about trading (I am more and more into trading and I really love it, haven't made a losing trade since 2018). I opened the trading section, saw some nice threads, but even there most of the replies are off and irrelevant, then it is easy to see why, those replying are just boosting their post count by writing nonsense or pointless stuff.

Then opened other topics and all were similar, which led me to the idea of a possibility to configure a ignore function, for example put all the members who have a signature, and maybe exclude from this very large group the legendary members (who are more likely to write good posts)?

Possible or not?

this is not possible with this forum software. maybe it helps you to hide signatures?
it might help the reading flow... I've never tried it myself but maybe it's a compromise that helps you Smiley

I have no doubt your experience was just as you described, because when I joined bitcointalk almost five years ago my impression was pretty much the same as yours--and it is indeed frustrating.  It's actually gotten better since the introduction of the merit system, but some sections are still filled with garbage posts.

Danny Hamilton used to have a pre-made ignore list that included everyone wearing a signature, but I wouldn't recommend using something like that.  The fact is that most members here are in signature camapaigns, including some of the best posters on the forum.  If you put them all on ignore, you'd probably be left with only members with the rank of Newbie that can't advertise in their signature space.

My suggestion would be to just add to your ignore list manually as you notice members posting nonsense.  That's what I've done, and it's worked out pretty well.
