There is no set rules or guidelines for percentage of coins in portfolio. For myself, I prefer to have at least 40 to 50% in BTC.

And coins percentage most likely change depending on the current market situation.

No there is no specific amount or percentage of holding coins. I believe that every trader has their own strategy or ways on which they think they will benefit more. The percentage or the amount will definitely depend on the owner. As a newbie trader, I often more than half of possible profit due to bad decision making. Sometimes, the price of the tokens will suddenly go down and it was also the time when I needed some money so what would happen is that I will be forced to trade at low prices because I need to.
Those who are going to follow your advice are definitely going to be the new elite class of the crypto world. There is no doubt in this fact that bitcoin is the most successful digital currency up till now and the new rich people we are seeing because of digital currencies are all those who invested and kept bitcoin in their wallet for long time with patience.

I basically use the strategy which I evenly distribute my risk of each coin. I currently have 30%BTC, 30%ETH and 30%LTC, the rest 10% i will use to purchase some other alt coins.

Currently the most I hold is Bitcoin and a little OMG and ETH but trader wise, is there a recommended percentage?

My current holdings are:
BTC 60.75%
OMG 33.74%
ETH 5.51%
Sometime ago I read a blog post that recommend the following percentage of coin's portfolio one should hold: "Bitcoin 50%,ethereum 10%, ripple 10% ,zcash 10% and 10% for new coins that are being listed in exchange platforms, another 10% for ico projects". I think his recommendation is worthwhile and after follow them for some time now I have no regrets. Your current holdings is not too bad too and you can still expend it. Good luck to your investment.

This mainly depends on your financial status but try to keep most of saving in bitcoin (40-70%) then choose 2-3 projects for long term holding at least one year from the date of buying .

I would suggest everyone to hold at least 70% to 80% of their net crypto wealth in the form of Bitcoin. It is the most reliable and the original crypto-coin out there and the others are not that reliable.

I don't think there is a recommended percentage of different coins to hold. I believe all rally around the level of your capital, and the percentage of risk that you want to take on each coins which you plan to invest your capital.

This percentage depends on each individual and how much risk they are willing to take on each coin they are holding. No amount of percentage you want to hold for each coin is too small or too big but make sure you are not holding a shitcoin, that is the most important.

My current holdings are:
BTC 60.75%

ETH 5.51%
it's good percentage in my opinion.
60.75%% for Bitcoin is very precise because Bitcoin is the strongest Cryptocurrency and the price has increased steadily in recent years.
But I do not agree with 33.74% OMG I think it's too big also 5.51% ETH. The second strongest Cryptocurrency after BTC is ETH, so it is very useless if you hold only a little ETH.
But all the decisions are up to you.

It's not complusory that your percentage should match other traders you won't have simply hold a particular coin if you know there is going to be loss omg seems like a solid coin to me in starting it seemed like every other coin but will all their roadmap it convinced me to add it in my portfolio

Yes, it's better to build your own percentage but if you want to follow others trading strategy, he can. OMG is a good coin to choose, it's market cap is starting to increase and with my trading group (not pump and dump) is discussing about this all the time and there are OMG holders that I know who holds a lot of it. Just be sure that you hold bitcoin in the end of the day as this will always has the chance to increase.

I don't think there is a certain recommended percentage of holding coins. The choice is yours, you do your own good by buying the coins which you think might benefit by the end of the day. However, I would advice that you add some more coins on your list if your willing to make quick profit.

There's no like standard recommended percentage, but it's always a good idea to diversify more depending on how much value you're holding. Let's say for example you're holding like $50, then there's almost no point in diversifying with such low budget. But if you're holding like $5000 or so, it would be best to diversify.

I think you're holding too much OmiseGo in my opinion. Good tech, yes, but I wouldn't risk as much as 30% on it. I suggest using a 50-10-10-10-10-10 ratio of cryptocurrencies instead, with 50% bitcoin. But it's up to you. Tongue
I will have to agree with you, I think he is holding too much omg as well, I do have it but i think I have like 5-6%, 33% is too much risk for him. If it doesn't do good then it means he will have to lose on his investment.

Now we can't exactly say that . Like now there are many crypto currencies and it's really hard to predict as to which cyrpto currency will become successful. After Bitcoin if there is any competition then it is ethereum so having that should not a bad thing.

Depends on the size of your portfolio (in $) and the amount of risk you are willing to take. If you have a lot of money to spent on crypto I would say 80% in the 'safe coins' like BTC and ETH and the other 20% in coins like OMG, FCT, ARK etc.

There are no exact percentage because it is all up to you, how much you want to make profit and how long you want to keep your investment, for a long term I suggest 75% of Bitcoin and 20% of eth and other 5% could be litecoin or ripple or BitcoinCash, but if you want a short term I suggest 50% of Bitcoin 20% of eth and the rest of the percentage is the mixing of the alt coin, it can be ripple, litecoin, OMG, nxt, nem depend on the market trend
Yes, there is no certain thumb rule for this. It is up to you and it is you who has to decide by keeping in mind all the possible factors. I think of you want to earn more money, and then you should definitely keep a significant amount of your earning in Bitcoins. You can have a small portion of your earning in order to fulfill you daily based needs. The choice is totally yours. Do what seems best suitable to you.

Yeah. Different situations would determine this because not all of us are capable of saving a lot due to our financial status. If it were up to me, of course i'd save at least 50% of may money but again there are things that may happen that would prevent me from saving that much
You have a very sharp mind I must say. I am a very firm believer of holding of the coins. The percentage which you need to hold, certainly depends on you. In my opinion, you need to hold at least 70% of your Bitcoins. With rest of the Bitcoins, you can do trade or anything which you want.

Indeed! There is no need to keep any particular amount of money in your account or like wallets. You can keep whatever amount you like or probably afford. But it is not ever recommended to keep your coins all the time in wallets, you need to wake them up from slumber and use them for fulfilling your needs.

After study cryptocurrency portfolio very well I think one should partten they portfolio in this ways at least 50% of the risk capital should be invest to bitcoin, 10% to ethereum, 10% to litecoin 5% to neo 5% to lisk 10% to zcash , 5% to strats and 5% reserved for ico investment.
I think you have a good point here. If I want to invest in the top 10 coins, I can as well just use their marketcap to decide each percentage I will allocate to each one I am decidiing to hold. However, this is just good for decision making, not like a normal pattern for looking at the one with most prospect cause even the 10th coin today can be the 20th tomorrow.

There isn’t a recommended amount to hold, just follow your instincts and don’t let what anybody said change your mindset, you should just keep what you think would be sufficient for you when the market is booming
Following people will of course sometimes get you confused. It is never good basing one's decision on other people's opinion most especially on this forum that most people are here just for the signature campaign.
Although, not like it is bad to seek for opinions, but do your own assignment and just use others opinion to find a balance probably if there is something you must have missed from your own research.

There is not a size all fits all kind of answer to that question you need to figure that our yourself, when we are talking about crypto the safest route is to have all your money in bitcoin and the riskiest is to have all your money invested in a single ICO, you need to find something in the middle.

Everything depends on the stability of the coin, since bitcoin is now very stable, even with the risks it should have the highest percentage. For other coins, you should look in what position they are in the current time, rise or fall. And already from this to make their own assumptions. As for me, you have wasted ETH so much and put a lot of OMG, well, it's your scheme.

there are two types of traders, the first is he keeps 50% Bitcoin and the remaining 50% he traded altcoin, the other type is he 100% keep altcoin be it just one coin or consist of various variations of coins.
If that's the case, then I will recommend being the first type. Altcoins don't have the potential to produce large profits in short time whereas bitcoins are very fast in this matter. No matter what coin you trade in, it is best to spend some of profits on bitcoins and increase the number.
I think you should keep on holding a reasonable amount of your Bitcoins so that you may get a good profit in the end. Spending of the Bitcoins for the sake of anything will never be a suitable idea. You need to make your each and every step very much carefully so that you can earn a good amount.
The more holding of btc, much better. But still have also some alts. Alts that are good in value and still have potential for increase in the future. Though having btc alone is enough yet there are really potential alts out in exchanges that are really attractive.
if you're expecting big profits from trading, holding too much btc is not that better, you can't get more than 100% profit within a month or less, bitcoin price is just too high for that and will never happen anymore once bitcoin reached new ATH.
it's better to keep your portfolio on altcoins that's newly created but have really good potential, just my opinion.

Their is no basics of how much to hold , it is upto the users who wanted to take risk how much they can. If you invest most of your investment in other altcoins then it is upto you that which coin you are going to keep and what will be the risk.

My holdings are only altcoins which are having good long term prospects and what ever i am earning in bitcoins most of them i convert them to fiat currency to fulfill my needs

It is necessary to budget wise your coins.. I don't consider recommended or  percentage amount to hold.. depends totally on how you balance handling the coins, just make sure you are satisfied the value before selling it

You are right but based from long time traders we should hold half of the total coins because it is possible for that coin's market price to get higher. I haven't tried that but I am willing too. I have trade but I did not hold altcoins. I only hold bitcoin because I believe that it will be more variable in the future and of course I want to have bitcoin at that time to enjoy the fruit of my hardwork.

whatever you feel comfortable really

BTC being the most "safe" and stable coin in comparison to the rest, the more BTC you have the more risk averse you are

So if you like taking risks, reduce your BTC and buy more Altcoins

If you aren't the risky type, increase your BTC holdings

60% BTC is quite conservative in my opinon
Its better to invest mostly on bitcoin since it the most safest of all the crypto but you can try and invest some on other crypto which are mostly new with a fast ICO that happened since they are most likely to increase price in a short span of time. But then again, better to keep most of your investment on bitcoin so that you wont miss any sudden price spike on it.

There is no recommended amount or percentage to keep, it is up to you to decide how much you’re willing to invest in bitcoin. Lets say someone tells you he invests 10% of money in bitcoin and maybe the 10% is 10%=1500, and your own full money 100% = 2000, you see your 10% can’t be up to his 10%. So its up to you to decide whats best

Yeah because people have different finacial situations for their savigs. If you're earning quite a big amount, then i'd say 90% of my btcs would go untouched until the time i see it fit to sell. If there are situations when i have to sell and my income isn't that high, i'd sell perhaps 30-40%. So it depends really on your current situation

As I'm mainly trading BTC-ALT pairs, My goal at the start of the day is to have it 50:50 and then in the end to clear the profit in BTC.
really good strategy and most of the people are doing this for the sake of huge profit but right now i think eth has much more potential than btc right now.
i have only few numbers of bitcoin and a huge number of eth and also have some of the chinese coins like "bytom" and "adex" and i am also looking forward to "IOTA" as well.
i believe it is a really good project and really good team of developers is behind it and i really believe that it will rise like hell in the future. i have saved some for long run

Looks like you are holding the coins in just right proportion. But I would like to give you advice about it. You should add more coins and split your bitcoin and OMG investment little bit into them. This will minimise your risk by adopting your investment into different coins. If you put something in single place then it has got higher chances of threat, loss etc. If you divide it equally or with a ratio then risk gets divided and chances of earning profits increase as well. If you would like to follow then you can try Nvo coin, social coin as additional back up.

My holding are :

Sometimes i used BTC as to buy alts when there is some good alts on the market and has the potential to grow in value. I don't usually trade BTC but it still depends on the price, in BTC im a long time holder, in eth I'M doing a short trade and same goes for some alts nut some alts are really good to play with. There's nothing wrong to hold the main coins, the only disadvantages is that the main coins might go down and you might lose everything but if it goes up like ETH this year you will be a instant millionaire. It is always better to diversify it in a way that it will balance the price and you will not lose your profit at red time, it will be hard at first or the second when trading but you'll get by and learn from it. Remember the Famous line " Just buy what you can afford to lose ".

Who exactly would make such a recommendation and why would anyone listen to it? Obviously if I'm recommending an altcoin it's because I own some of it and want the price to go up. Make your own decisions.

Right, the amount of coins that will be hold totally depends on the owner of the coins. Why such asked an obvious question anyway? Things like this should be personally decided by the owner and not be recommended or should not be asked for recommendation from total strangers. It definitely depends on the owner whether to hold all or just a part of his coins.

Yes, the percentage of any coin you are holding totally depends on you and the potential of that coin for making great returns. If it is bitcoin, you should hold much higher percentage of it compared to other coins in our wallet. Among altcoins, waves and neo deserves good place in wallets.

It all comes to how much risk you can afford. If you have small amounts of money to invest, you may want to take bigger risks, and if you have bigger amounts, you should take safer bets. Bitcoin is the safest cryptocurrency, so it's very suitable for higher amounts. ETH and LTC are too big altcoins, they are more volatile than Bitcoin, but can be hodled together with it, in smaller proportion. Then you can choose coins that has some potential - it's important to do your own research and don't just blindly trust in whitepapers and hype. Coins like Monero, Golem, Sia, Steem, Golem belong here (from top 5 to top 20). They might succeed and return huge profits, but also might fail. All other coins (starting from top 20) are very risky and very likely to be just pump and dump schemes - they are bad for hodling long term in high amounts. Just remember to always research about coins you are about to invest, instead of blindly panic buying.

There is no specific percentage recommended it all matters on you and what you want to achieve with your investment, if you think it’s going to bring in much cash for you then you should invest a lot, but if there is an atom of doubt in you then maybe you should test it with just little money

Currently the most I hold is Bitcoin and a little OMG and ETH but trader wise, is there a recommended percentage?

My current holdings are:
BTC 60.75%
OMG 33.74%
ETH 5.51%

It is up to you if you want to hold more than the standard or recommended percentage in holding your cryptocurrency on your trading. However I believe that in your own trading technique, you should leverage them and diversify so that when loss happened, you still have other to gain profit.

There isn’t a recommended amount to hold, just follow your instincts and don’t let what anybody said change your mindset, you should just keep what you think would be sufficient for you when the market is booming

If i was to divide all my money into percentage, then i would have kept 80-90% bitcoin and the remaining percentage would have been for other coins, but i don't hold any other coins except bitcoin. I feel other coins are good just for short-term trading but not for long-term holding. Just buy them when they are low, and sell them back when they are a little higher than the price you've bought them in.

Always spare atleast half of your total investment to Bitcoin, as by default Bitcoin price grows. Now for the other half. Keep the 10% to ETH and the rest to other undervalued coins NEO , QTUM, PTOY, OMG.

Always have bitcoins. Bitcoins to keep as bitcoins, bitcoins to invest in shitcoins, and bitcoins kept as liquidity to dive into once in a life time opportunities.

It actually just depends on your comforatability, because at the end of the day it is you who decides around how much percentage you are willing to risk and I don't think most people who have HODL'ed their coin have a specific amount of percentage on each coin, they just HODL them based on their instincts and what amount they could afford to risk.

It all depends on what you see for a particular coin and time you deicde to hold it for. Personally, I don't make percentage statistics of my investments but rather stick to see what coin will do better and put it on the top of the list and the other coins follow suite. The coins with least potential and might drop in my eyes, will stick at the bottom while I decide to sell/hold on to it.

I don't think there's a standard percentage  of Bitcoin or crypto currency to hold as an investment. All depends on the your investment capital and the coins that you think has a profit potential. Although Some time it is not rational to put all your capital in just one investment. You can spread your capital into top Ten different coins.
Yes I agree to you that there is no standard percentage that you need to sell the coin because the trading are unpredictable there is no exact percentage that the coin become its highest point and you earned profit from it but there is always a changes in the market that makes the coin become profitable better than expected price that you wanted to sell

Tongue

you should choose these percentages based on the amount of risk you are willing to take.
bitcoin is obviously the most solid investment among all cryptocurrencies so naturally it should have the biggest percentage.
other altcoins depend on where on their pump and dump cycle they are. if they are in the initial stages of getting pumped you can increase your percentage and as they go higher and enter their bubble you decrease that percentage or dump them completely.

Thank you very much, can you elaborate on the pump and dump cycle of alt coins? Does is follow a pattern?
