You are right, no one can delete his own topic unless the topic is edited. In a self-moderated thread, only other people's posts can be deleted by the OP but the OP can not delete his own topic unless he edited it. I have corrected it. Both poll and topic can not be deleted but edited. Admin and moderators can do that.
Edit is not delete. Delete is not edit.
Q: How do I delete/lock my own thread(s) when I no longer need them?
A: On the top right of your post is a delete button. You can delete threads if nobody has seen them. Otherwise, just click "Lock topic" link at the bottom left.
I test with one topic in Beginners & Help; Bitcoin discussion boards but I can not delete two threads.

You cannot delete your own topics in this board.

As far as I know, members cannot delete threads themselves. Maybe you mean what was deleted was the content of the thread?

Is there a method to delete the poll?
Referring to the information at https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Posting#Poll_Options, Moderator can delete polls.

Edit: if it is self-moderated, you can not also delete poll, but you can delete the whole thread. I have just tested that and I was not able to delete self-moderated poll unless the whole thread is deleted.

I guess @act has provided the answer for you. Well, it's better to lock the thread if you feel you must close the subject.

You cannot delete a poll, you can only edit it. If your thread is self moderated then to you cannot delete the poll nor the thread. I know that mods can delete a thread but I am not sure whether they can delete a poll on a thread.

You can edit poll but you can not delete it.

But probably if it is self-moderated, I do not know if it can be deleted or not. I am only referring to the threads that are not self-moderated.

Edit: if it is self-moderated, you can not also delete poll. I have just tested that and I was not able to delete self-moderated poll unless the whole thread is deleted.

Roughly a or 2 month ago, I had started a poll, and as I received some responses, I decided to delete it.

But, I could not found any options to delete or eliminate the poll. The only options available were to edit the poll or lock it.

Within the "edit poll" option, I found the following Screen, I tried to check if poll deletes or not by saving without inserting any texts:
