Depends on the project, not everything in life could be patented, if your idea is something that could be patented and allowed you could get it patented like anything else. Just provide some sort of document to patent place in your area and they will do their due diligence and they will let you know if there is anything similar at all or not and if they could patent it or not.

However know that if you do this it will take a lot of money, from the getting ready part to lawyers to patent it will take a ton of money because with a patent you are basically saying "I want this to be only done by me and nobody else" which limits the production and that is why it costs money. I would say talk with at least few strangers just to see if it will really worth that much effort and money.

Is it a crypto project?
Patenting decentralized open-source crypto projects doesn't sound like a good idea to me. But I understand your point concerning your ideas getting stolen.   I honestly wouldn't bother about people copying my ideas as long as it is not for self interest or for centralized projects.

I once thought about having something similar to patenting on cryptosphere that would allow people post their ideas in immutable form(with time & date they were posted) on decentralized platforms as proof they own them. And people could donate to the owners of the ideas and copy whatever they want.

Why don't you try with DeepVault from DeepOnion or Signature chain project for notarization of your idea. They are based on blockchain and can be verified with blockchain at any time and cost yoy nothing almost. I would suggest you using deepvaultonline.com. It offers you some free credits too.

Hello folks.
I'm consistently working on a startup which would be a financial model. Yet I'm working on the development including whitepaper, etc since months. I've spent a lot of time in developing this project but now it is the time to look for some more brilliant minds to enrich my project to the best.

I want to know that is there any way where I can register or state that this is my project so that no one can steal the idea? I'm not sure if the people I might take help from would not leak or sell the business idea as I'm working a lot harder and would never want my efforts to be stolen.

I will not enclose any details regarding the project as of now. Also, I am not looking to hire anyone. I already found a individu who can help me with the whitepaper but just want to make sure I'm safe.

If this is not the appropriate board please let me know and I'll move this topic.
There will only interested developer will copy your idea if your project make their own success first.

Since its just an idea every one can copy it and change only few thing from the original which is your project.

If suddenly  they just copy the text from your whitepaper  then you can file a case against the project for plagiarism which can also damage their  project if proven.

Instead of telling people what your idea is all about before taking advice from them I suggest you gather up a team first, make sure each one of the team are serious, you need to pick your own team based on their professionalism, if you think your idea is fresh and new do not say a word, fresh and new crypto idea is like new recipe that is only safe to the creator

You can do it through blockchain project. Couple of days ago, I found two projects which offer this service. You can check this thread to get an idea about blockchain based notarization- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54199366

Look for an agency in your locale that's working into this kind of idea. AFAIK, even if you are not in the US you can file a patent as long as you know the process and you're following the right procedure. Research first if there's an organization that do this in your country.
And once you find them, they'll help you to apply for a patent for that business model or idea that you have if it's applicable and there's nobody that owns the right.
