Why stop at a day? Everyone should own their own keys and we commonly talk about this as a regular topic in Bitcoin.

That's why we have the PGP and Bitcoin address-staking threads.
People should constantly be signing messages for transactions and secure text: adopt a status quo and the movement will come. Holidays are arbitrary; verified signatures are not.

Some maggots just created that words just to have a season to remember but actually there's no something like that exist before.

Maybe they want to spread positive or informative ideas about that.

Or maybe he created that "Private key wording" to became famous and be called as the inventor of that word.

PGP users have key signing days where people in the local area will gather at a venue with I.D. which they show along with their fingerprint for the Public Keys they'd like others to sign.

Said signed pubkeys are then uploaded to various servers which others can then fetch.

I'm always surprised something similar hasn't been implemented in the forum rather than the convoluted DT trust system or the dubious trust feedback where buying a trinket earns you "trust".

I'd be interested to hear more about how exchanges prove their privkeys are secure (or not given yet more exchanges have been hacked in recent times)

Having secure priv keys is one thing, preventing hacks and/or thefts another thing entirely.

I am just surprised to know there is a day called 'proof of key day' which is January 3rd of every year now.
Same here so I did some digging and it's worth mentioning the name of the person responsible for that event "Trace Mayer [Video proof]".

I am now wondering how there can be 'proof of key day' but nothing like 'private key day'. One of the most important thing to know while dealing with bitcoin is private key.
What would you propose we should be doing if there was a "private key day" event every year?

And we should have a day to celebrate private key so people will know how it is not safe in term of control of bitcoin to make use of any custodial service in order to have full control over ones bitcoin.
I believe "proof of keys day" already covers that part [perhaps not in great details] and by doing so it does sound a bit repetitive [IMHO].

If there is none, please let us have one. We can choose a day on this forum for 'private key day', for the awareness of how private key is truly the real reason Bitcoin owners have full control on their bitcoin.
I'm afraid this might soon be followed by other similar events and quickly create a mess.
- I don't think we need to celebrate certain days in order to teach/educate other users about taking control of what is theirs.

This is the first time I'm hearing anything about a 'Proof of Key day's and it must have by means of that initiative served it's purpose and doesn't matter much now because, I don't see anyone being so festive about it which means, it's fading out.

Same would apply to the 'Privaye key day' should the initiative be adopted and not celebrated but then, it would have gone a long way to private key publicity and on that day, the importance of private key be thought in colourful modes to it's tiniest detail. Though, it's likely to fad out as well with the slightest neglect.

I've not heard of a private key day, so I don't think there's any, I understand your perspective, but the problem is the form this is going to take, it can't be via an avatar, signature or personal text, cause quite a lot of users wear paid ones. Having said that, the forum via Theymos always has something to mark April Fools day every year, could your suggestion take that pattern as well to create awareness on the importance of private keys? That seems like the only possible way imo.

I don't know if the admin will prioritize this at all, I know private keys are very important and I believe every Bitcoiner should know that as well, I've seen quite a lot of users stress that importance with: "not your keys, not your coins" either in posts or personal text, a day for it wouldn't be bad, is it too important, I'm not very sure, don't you think this suggestion should be in Meta?

Proof of Keys day was initially created as a test for exchanges and other third-party custodians — a way for individuals to ensure that third parties holding bitcoin weren’t operating as a fractional reserve.

I am now wondering how there can be 'proof of key day' but nothing like 'private key day'. One of the most important thing to know while dealing with bitcoin is private key. Why Are Private Keys So Interesting?
Private keys are one of the best technologies in existence for granting asymmetric power to individuals. The source of that power lies in ownership and control over data — whether that data is Bitcoin or a text message. Only the owner of the key which encrypted a piece of data can view or control it, and it’s practically impossible to break that control with technical brute force.

For example, a Bitcoin private key is a random number between 1 and 2^256. That means that, on average, a computer would need to guess more numbers than the estimated number of atoms in the universe before it could guess the correct private key. That is the power of private keys, and anyone can have that power. With the right tools in the hands of individuals, this technology is world changing.

If you read the link further, you will be able to know how custodial service providers can pose a threat to bitcoin in the future in a way governments will have control over it. What if goverment want to ban Bitcoin, people's Bitcoin on exchanges will only be seized and never be given again, but Bitcoin is beyond that, those that have the private key to their bitcoin will still be able to carry out transactions amount themselves. In order to reduce these controls and manipulations of the central bodies, people still need to know how private key is very important. Not your key not your coin.
