There may be some anti-trust issues if a CC processor were to do this, but it's going to be a long hard fight.

Again, depends on country. But in general, CC processors and merchant processors who act as go betweens are free to negotiate with individual merchants. So really, nothing to stop them hiking rates if they so choose. I doubt they will though. Just encourage merchants to stop taking cards Smiley

is there anything legally preventing credit card companies from saying to a bitcoin merchant "stop accepting bitcoin or we will raise your fees" ?

Depends on the laws of the country.

But in general, cc companies can choose who they work with, and also negotiate processing fees.
