All rich people are 'normal people', just like the non-rich.

The elites and the media want to brainwash you to think they are somehow special and put them on a pedestal.
I don't think rich people are " normal people" as your thoughts, if rich people are just nomal like other guys so this world will be furfilled of rich people? Then who will be the poor guy in this scenario?
I do believe they are just also normal people. They have 5 senses and the only difference with them to us is that they are rich, simple as that.

We mostly talk about riches base on our understanding on the monetary ownership of those people. And don't forget that there are "normal people" who normally treating themselves as someone not special, yet they are rich.

The division that these elites and medias are doing is they are defining rich and normal people base on their standards.

And with my life now in bitcoin I may not say that I'm rich, I don't hold a lot of bitcoin but I'm a normal person.

I guess many are holding their BTC until today and are only rich on the screen, but as one big fish starts to cash out the values will drop again and that may cause a little chain reaction which drops the BTC price a little.
So..the more BTC-Millionairs want to turn their BTC into fiat, the less Millionaires are left.

But as the prices drop a lot..many many people will buy because they believe in the rise..which actually causes the rise.

In a szenario that is very unlikely to happen, where BTC fails and the prices drop to 100$ per BTC, i would go nuts and even sell my car to buy as much as i can... xD
They may have some problems like that so thats why this forum was created to assist that kind of problems and fix it properly and we also shares ideas to put some same problems into a resolved issue helped and be helped. Price drop  is not that of a big deal because bitcoin also recovers all that and eventually surpass ot somehow.

Don't believe the narrative. Many of the old BTC hodlers had probably cashed out in the low $300 and then disappeared for months. And then they probably re-bought bitcoins when the price broke the old ATH. Of course no one will admit that.
Everyone must have experienced it, I'm sure most users who have long use Bitcoin definitely experience the incident. Some people will benefit and some will certainly suffer losses. If people who used to sell Bitcoin at rates below 1000 $ will definitely regret it, because we all know that the current Bitcoin price has reached $ 8300.

I don't think so. It's not so easy to become bitcoin richman as it look at first glance. And if they were millionaires they wouldn't probably be here on forum anymore. Not so many people have kept bitcoins long enough to become really rich although there are some who have made big profit. I still think there are only few people who made their dreams come trough with bitcoins and who can say they are rich. But having in mind the volatility that doen't mean they will be rich tomorrow too.
I disagree with this, if I were to became rich with bitcoin, something not very likely, I will keep my account as a memory of that , how cool it could be to be one of those that got a lot of success in bitcoin, so to me there are many people in this forum that are holding good amounts of bitcoin and probably are not making a big deal about it.

I know people who bought a large amount of scam alt coins - losing $20K + within a few months.
Even those who have bought BTC when it was very cheap, how many of them have HODL? How many of them have actually cashed out?
Also don't forget, for those we have not sold their BTC, it's all just paper gain, not realised gain... the BTC game is still on going.

Most of the people around the forum were the common people, but some has gained themselves good through different sources available. Have the thought of earning and then hold it for a bigger profit, because experts have predicted that the price will reach great barriers in the future as everything is getting interlinked to bitcoin through some form.

Honestly, I don't know these people. It only seems that those who had bitcoins in 2010 became millionaires this year. Actually bitcoin is mathematically very easy to calculate. If now the price will collapse to $ 100 for example. Who will keep the bitcoins? Everyone will panic to sell them. No one will have to wait a few years. During this time, whales can buy all the coins on the market, and again to raise prices. Even if bitcoin will be worth $ 1,000,000 we will not have coins to become a millionaire.

Hi there

I was thinking
Bitcoin must have created a biiig amount of new millionairs, doesn't it?
I mean people who got interested in bitcoins early, liberals, doomsday government critics, criminals and drug users who used silk road, normal poor people like me. There must be a vast amount of cracy stories of people finding themselves filthy rich.
Did you get rich? Would be very interested in stories.

Mine:
I invested about 10k in bitcoin at about 600 usd, that was about 4 years ago. Was all my money at that time, i saved it in the 6 years before that. Read some book about where to safely invest that did not mention bitcoin at all, then i saw video about bitcoin and put money there.
Then it went lower for more than a year, down to 200usd. When it finally went over 600 again, i sold 1/3rd, argh Smiley
So it's about 8x to 80k now. Great stuff, but 80k is not exactly big money. (But it's big compared to my income, it's about 8 years of my salary actually)
Stupidly i did not put my money i saved in these years into bitcoin.. i just did put it again into Bitcoin recently - i decided to go all in again. The bet is that bitcoin goes to 7k or above in next 5 years. (If it goes below 3500 i start to lose my not-yet-realised wins, if it goes to 7k i will have 200k, if it goes to 15k i will have 400k; - 200k and 400k (euros) means different amounts of financial freedom for me: of not 'having' to work to just survive, but to have income through just having money. (6% interest of 200k is 12k euros per year. I can live off that)
Nice! I guess you already have up to 200k right now. You could have been filthy rich but it was only delayed which apparently you are now. It is even very good you did not go all out when you recovered your funds back and then you were patient enough during the first huge dip back then as so many people ended up selling for losses.

Good to hear your story and I wish I have a better story except that I have been a spender at some point and savings aren’t as much as that.

I guess there really millionaires here because of bitcoin but not that much or majority are not because as what we said people here are normal people who looks for additional income and surely whatever they earn from bitcoin are converted and use to finance their expenses only few were able to keep their bitcoin and hold for a long term investment that's maybe the reason why the market of bitcoin grows because people who learn bitcoin increase every year while the old ones remain here and keep working to earn more

People are different. In terms of their financial situation, their personality and will to take some risk or not.
There are definitely people from the early years, 2011-2013, who have hundreds or thousands of Bitcoins and were able to hold them. These guys are doing pretty good right now.
There also people who were throwing some spare money into alts coins when they worth mostly nothing. They are doing pretty good as well, as long as they made it to sell at the top for most of the coins.
Others with no spare money studied Bitcoin and the technology behind it. Some of them are working for startups in this space now and earning up to 6 figured per year. Those guys are doing also pretty good.
But in general the most guys here did not became filthy rich. That'S definitely not the case.
And what are 'normal people' by the way?  Cheesy

In mid 2015, as the price was hovering at about $240 ish, I had $30k savings to invest. Asked my family "I want to buy bitcoin, should I?". And they replied with "no". And I listened Cheesy

I think some earlier adopters of bitcoin here are rich as hell. But you can only count them and very few comeback from this forum once bitcoin price skyrocketed. But for casual like us, although we earn or profit bitcoin today, I don't consider we are filthy rich because it will take more years before we can call ourselves rich.

For one, most casuals found bitcoin when it is already above $1000, although its a return of of 800% already, I don't think they have invested big amount because normal people just don't put big investments. They can only buy in dips with small amount of money. And most of them even sold it when their investments makes it to x4. But I guess we are not late though, we can still be rich maybe along the 2-5 year time frame.

I just invested here recently as Business Administration graduate student for me invest not your maximum income but only 10-25% because do not invest on what you all have because in investing we are taking a huge risk it is not always going to be an income for you there are times that you will suffer a loss, and when what will happen to you if you invested all of your money and then suddenly the prices fell down as below as zero because there is risk everywhere.

People who got interested earlier in bitcoin sold it when the price was increasing and they would be in profit. I dont think anyone will keep their investments on if they made a x10 profit from the initial investment.
Also there are a lot of people who buyed bitcoin in 2010 and still have it in wallet. But even if they remember about that, I am sure their wallet informations are lost
Why would anyone not want to keep their investments when they made more than that? X10 is too small. Just this year alone, most people who even got in early this year has been able to make x10, let alone those who have been in the system for a long time now.

If I have been in the system since 2010 and I bought a lot, highest i will do now is to take some out, and diversify offline into several fleet of businesses which I believe no matter what happens with bitcoin tomorrow, I already have a lot coming in for me and that would not make me stop saving in bitcoin the more.

Invest only the amount you can afford to lose. Otherwise, Bitcoin will destroy your personality.
There are only 2 results ... Bitcoin drops to zero or will be worth $ 1,000,000.

Wait 10 years and you will be "filthy rich" or nothing will change (if you invested only amount, you can afford to lose) :-)
There are less than 500,000 person in the world who own 10 BTC.

There are more millionaires than ever in the United States. As of the end of 2016, there were a record 10.8 million millionaires nationwide, according to a new study from Spectrem Group's Market Insights Report 2017. That's more than ever before and marks a 400,000 person increase from the previous year.

I do not agree with you that one should invest a little amount. Bitcoin is a once in a century opportunity to make a lot of money. And while you can lose money, because it will come back with time, such as great opportunity will never be back. So my advice to people reading this is to buy when it is still the time to.

I doubt many people had the conviction to hold their coins bought in the single/double digits all the way to today. I've always found it quite fascinating that BTC has an almost built-in distribution system, whereby initial early adopters have large stashes of coins but subsequently cash those out at a certain profit level, where they are redistributed among a larger userbase, and the cycle repeats as the price continues to rise over time.
That is the most likely scenario but at the same time I do not have doubts there were some hardcore bitcoin believers that thought that an scenario like this could happen and decided to remain invested in bitcoin regardless of the great profits they got.

One thing is certain... Unless we make another serious dip, there is not a lot of 'normal' people that can have 10 BTCs anymore... Even 1 BTC is becoming seriously expensive, and as the initial investors become millionaires and sell their coins, less and less people will be able to win the lottery with bitcoin. I doubt that 0.1 BTC will ever be worth 500k... But well, you never know!
I do not even know how to correctly answer all these questions and how to talk about this topic. But statistics says that many people who started to earn huge money and became rich, morally just soured.

My first purchase was August 1, 2015, buying sporadically during dips.. on 8/25/15 I bought 1.33999999 for $302.05, I made several of these buys, 1.33999999 for less than $400...   I don’t remember why I bought at the time, but I know since about that time they’ve basically been on a 26 month rally, excluding a few crashes mixed in there.   I had 80% of my bitcoin by December 3, 2016, and have held on for the ride this year.  I also own a business, and have never invested more than I could afford to lose, the “Golden Rule” of investing in Crypto.

I know there will never be more than 21M Bitcoin, and somewhere I read that having 21BTC will basically set you up for life someday, and at the time 21BTC was much less than $20k, so I took a shot w this and obviously I’m glad I did. I have a significant 2nd income from my business, so I don’t plan on selling anytime in the  foreseeable future.   I’m going to see this thing out where it goes, and if I lose everything, I never seen invested more than I could afford to lose, so I’m my mind I’ve already chalked it up as a loss, or money that’s not useable for m for at least another decade.

bitcoin is a very strange creature.
spend it, then regret it.
every time I spend a little without replacing, further price growth makes my decision silly.

However, without spending, what's the point? You cannot take it beyond and I have limited belief that my distant (in time) relatives would be able to hold to any btc whatsoever.

My sincere hope is for btc to rapidly climb to some kind of equilibrium spot as soon as possible (be it at 50K, 100K or 1mil/btc), then BE STABLE (+/-10%/year). This would make btc truly spendable.
Those who think that prices around 6K are maximum or close to it-it is impossible just by doing a comparison with the number of $$/euro/yen/yuan sloshing around.
We would be at 50-100K if ONLY millionaires invested 1% of their funds in btc and nobody else did.

One guy bought a Lamborghini.  Another guy is showing his view of the ocean.

Are you referring to one of these search results? -> https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bitcoin+lambo

It's all cool with me, and I hope that more and more people will be able to fulfull their dreams with their crypto wealth. I have a great respect for people who kept holding their coins through each and every drama situation that we went through. I personally find it far too early to start celebrating already, which is why I am not spending any of my coins. I must however admit that some times it's quite tempting to start using my coins to buy something with, but I have enough patience and dedication to continue to hold my coins firmly. No matter how 'high' the price might look for some people, it's still peanuts for me. People buying a lambo at current levels will look back after six or so months, and see that if they had more patience, they could have bought themselves two lambo's with the same number of coins. The interesting thing is that these people do not have. Think about the fact that many people become millionaires, but all sold their bitcoins for a long time and now can only regret. Millionaires thanks to bitcoin only became whales. But they were millionaires before the advent of bitcoin. I think that the price of bitcoin is only due to their ability to manipulate prices in the markets.

Unless people held on from the beginning, which wouldve been hard due because some people had 25-100 btc at the time when it hit $1000 in 2013-14, they wouldve sold it then. In 2015, it was around $300, meaning people didnt see it as a valuble investment anymore. So, most wouldve converted their btc at that time itself, and would most likely not be holding enough to make them millionares.

the last time bitcoin was "cheap" was in august 2015. 200 btc would have a price tag of $40k if bought on the dip of august 24th.

i do not think there were many average people that threw in $40k in august 2015. it was still not clear if the ongoing downtrend that started in december 2013 was over.
I think the same, I do not think there are many people from that time that are rich yet, many of the people that made a lot of money invested in bitcoin earlier than that however anyone that invested in bitcoin at that time is in a very good position right now.

early adopters can be a richest person if they still hold and only sell some part of their bitcoin right now but they still keep their bitcoin for another high price. mostly people selling their bitcoin when they see some range of price like btc reach $1000, $2500, $3500, $4000, $5000 but they don't waiting for a long term when bitcoin can really reach $10,000. they are thinking that this is the highest price of bitcoin that could reach and maybe they need to wait for one year or two year later to sell more than the price now.

i think if we want to sell most or all of our bitcoin, we need to have a limit of price for example, i want to sell my bitcoin when the price is reach $10,000 so no matter the price is reach $7,500 or more, we don't sell it because we want the higher price. i am trying to not being a weak hand just to see the price is increase but i am waiting until the price is at the high price maybe $10,000 then i will sell my bitcoin.

Certainly. A lot of early adopters have been rich with their bitcoin investments. There are stories out here in the forum, you can dig it yourself. I'm still far from that category of 'filthy rich'. But I have made significant gains my own. I made several investments and I'm still continuing to buy in dips to increase the amount of my holdings. I'm in it for the long term although its gonna be a long road ahead of me, I'm not in a hurry though. If you are familiar with the pizza guy, who bought pizza for a whooping 10,000 bitcoins. He is should a millionaire by now. He was truly a legendary and trailblazers. But imagine how much 10,000 is today.

If these are the only two options you're going to be VERY disappointed. The likelihood of either option becoming reality is incredibly low. It'll be some where in the middle and we're probably closer to Bitcoin's true value today than $1,000,000.

Let's not get crazy with this talk, it makes it easy for newbies to move on to something else.

There are less than 500,000 person in the world who own 10 BTC.

I find this very hard to believe. Any stats to back it up?

I doubt many people had the conviction to hold their coins bought in the single/double digits all the way to today. I've always found it quite fascinating that BTC has an almost built-in distribution system, whereby initial early adopters have large stashes of coins but subsequently cash those out at a certain profit level, where they are redistributed among a larger userbase, and the cycle repeats as the price continues to rise over time.

The people who got rich in recent years, say post mid 2013, would really have to have jumped into alts in a major way unless they piled in a suicidal amount into BTC. Even then they still would've depended on the right timing. Lots sold far too early with alts too. ETH was 50c for a good while, LTC sub $1, XMR 25c and that's when BTC was still in the hundreds of dollars.

I think we'd be surprised how few people timed it perfectly and how outrageously well a select few have done out of pure luck.

10k in 2013 was a lot and indeed still is. I dunno how many people would've gone further in.
At the end of the day even a good trader needs luck once in a while, those people that invested at those prices made money but only a few will be able to come close to maximize their profits, we call those people genius or lucky depending on their reasoning.

when btc hits $5k everyone who owns 200 btc is a $-millionaire. in February/march 2013 200 btc would have cost $10k.

the last time bitcoin was "cheap" was in august 2015. 200 btc would have a price tag of $40k if bought on the dip of august 24th.

i do not think there were many average people that threw in $40k in august 2015. it was still not clear if the ongoing downtrend that started in december 2013 was over.

Hi there

I was thinking
Bitcoin must have created a biiig amount of new millionairs, doesn't it?

Not realy. I dont think there exist more than 10 people on this world who got rich with bitcoin(not talking of big investors, we talk about normal people)
I mean people who got interested in bitcoins early, liberals, doomsday government critics, criminals and drug users who used silk road, normal poor people like me. There must be a vast amount of cracy stories of people finding themselves filthy rich.

A lot of people have made money, but most of them haven't become filthy rich.
You put in a years worth of salary when it was at USD 600? That was really brave, my friend. Just wait for some more time and you can settle down. I am sure it will go to 7K and then you will have your targeted 12K euros per year.

Its a good thing to realise that you have made profit from your intial investment , that quite a good amount. Its good to see that managed to go in earlier, a lot of investors missed the train.

It would be a good idea to hold on to your bitcoins, and maybe consider investing in a few altcoins, you might end up making even more profit.

Your strategy is good, but you must understand that many people sold when the price was much lower, the temptation to sell becomes too great, if you bought for 50 cents and bitcoin is worth 10 dollars then most people would have sold, only a few kept holding for a long time.

No, I joined in 2014, held solely BTC ( a small amount ) and continue to do so. I don't regret not investing into alts when they were cheap at all, nor do I regret not buying as much BTC as others here have. Bitcoin's definitely got a future, and although I may never be filthy rich from it,  that doesn't mean I can't watch it grow. I'll be part of the story, at least a little bit.

Nope the majority of the people who hang around here are not filthy rich. Bitcoin is only a small part of my investment

portfolio. I still consider Bitcoin as a high risk investment and for that reason I only invested a small amount. Over the years

I reached ROI status on my Bitcoin investment and now I am risk free. {Whatever I lose now, will come from my profits}  Tongue

Up until today, I'm still not rich by any means but my financial status has been in an uptrend behavior lately as I'm gaining profit after profit (small amount of money only) due to Bitcoin's rising price and due to my successful trades. I became interested to BTC last 2014 and only bought very small fraction of it to see if this "investment" would become something after many months. Well, nothing much came from it but I experienced some change last 2015 when it began to climb again. After that, I decided to put a portion of my salary (from my day job) on a bi-weekly basis and became very happy to the outcome of it. I'm hodling my BTCs and hoping to see it break $5k soon.

You're never too old to think young.
Is this Forum full of 'normal people' who over the years became filthy rich?

That's a loaded question.

How do you define "normal"? Are normal people into cryptography?

What do you consider to be "filthy" rich? More than $100m USD?

What is "full"? I'm sure a few innovators and very early adopters hold tens or hundreds of thousands of bitcoins, but they are a very tiny minority.

Anyone with a few hundred coins is now a millionaire but that doesn't make you rich in any developed country. $1m won't even buy you a decent house in downtown Toronto. I'd consider $10m to be the minimum to be considered rich.
_____

Indeed there are quite a few people here who have saved up enough coins to become comfortable or even to be considered rich in some 3rd-world countries, but they don't represent the majority. Not yet anyhow.

It sounds like you invested well and it paid off unexpectedly. Beware that Bitcoin can drop again, it might just sound like scaremongering but you never know what tomorrow will bring. You may get lucky and multiply it again, but it'd be wise to cash out a certain amount and put it into very low risk (low return) savings. That way you'll have some money safe if the price drops.

I suspect there are, but if these millionaires are smart they wouldn't hang around bitcointalk anymore!  If I had a million in crypto, I'd be out on the beach somewhere, not reading shitpost after shitpost here.

I've heard there was a time that faucets used to pay out whole bitcoins per claim.  That's incredible to me.  You just never know where any given crypto is headed, price-wise.  That's why I'm still a sucker and claim free doge and bitcoin from one faucet that I like.  It's a time-wasting exercise but I have a lot of time to waste.

Sig campaigns used to pay out huge amounts of bitcoin, too, if I'm not mistaken.  Maybe some of the old-timers can attest to that.

Buddy, literally most of your posts contain the word "shit". You are the literal definition of a "shit"poster.

How can you be THAT blind?! Seriously do you not see how bad your posts are? Over half of them contain curse words, are extremely over-aggressive in nature to the point of being extreme bullying and quite frankly I don't know how you have not been banned yet. I mean any one who reads your posts clearly sees how incredibly uncalled for your attitude is.

Trying to claim otherwise is next to impossible as you would need to delete almost all of your posts. I dare you to delete every post of yours which contains the word "shit" or "fuck" and your account would drop back down to Full Member! You ought to be ashamed of yourself, whoever you are.

It is not a good idea to let people know your newfound wealth. Most of the forum members since 2012 are multimillionaires now. I know a few worth 8 figures. Nobody talks about it, except to each other. People can get unpleasant around money

Interesting note, everyone who cared only about the technology bought early and got rich, everyone who cared only about getting rich bought the top and got poor.

not really because of a couple of reasons.
- people invest smaller amounts that they can afford to lose. you don't suddenly become a millionaire by doing that.

- most people don't hold their coins for long term. they sell at some point, usually because of fear or some FUD or the other and they miss out on the bigger rises. i have been around since 2014 and each time there is a rise everyone says "this" is the end. and price is still rising to this day.

- many are losing money. you are just looking at the prices but not what people do. there are so many who keep buying high and sell low. they wait around for a fall to $2000 for example but it never happens then price goes up and up and up then they buy at $4800 and price goes a little higher and then it reverses and falls to $3000 now they sell and wait for $2000 again and it never happens and price keeps going up and up and up again until they buy back at $5800 and price reverses and falls down to....... you see what i am getting at.

I've never put that much money into bitcoin. I pretty much exclusively earn them and HODL. I'm doing really well considering those facts but I wouldn't say I'm rich by any means. I never really got into altcoins until recently, and even then I don't have too much invested, so I still don't have a huge stockpile. As long as you have true financial freedom I don't think the actual amount that you own really matters in the end.

I got in early 2013 with cost basis per bitcoin between $10 and $25.  I bought more than $10,000 worth, but don't want to say here how much.  I went nuts that first year - especially that first runup to $250 than crash to $50 at Mt Gox.    Got everything out of Mt Gox in time, but I sold like half my holdings that first few months, which I deeply regret.

Now, bitcoin has changed my life.  I retired from my career as a software developer all because of bitcoin.  Holding still, for greater gains going forward.  I sold bigger chunks off when it finally got above  $1200 again (those were a long 2-3 bear market years to wait).

Am I normal.  No, I don't think so  -  I take more risks than the normal person, I think.  Bigger risk, bigger gain.  Always wanted to make a killing in investments, and made lots of bad ones during my lifetime.  Finally i found one that paid off!

I tell people I think the next 4 years will be just as profitible as the last 4 years, for the same starting investment.  But you really need long-term vision, patience, and belief in bitcoin.  Otherwise you never will be able to hold through those wild price swings.  Not everyone is cut out to be patient and have faith that is required.

There are more millionaires than ever in the United States. As of the end of 2016, there were a record 10.8 million millionaires nationwide, according to a new study from Spectrem Group's Market Insights Report 2017.
