Hi newbie here, so it's been a week and prices have been going up and down a little bit at a relatively same rate and not really making any drastic changes. Is this normally how btc price behaves and I'm just a wee bit impatient? Was it just the holidays that caused prices to soar in the last month?

This happens every january if you care to look back. I don't know, probably the chinese new year has something to do with it. But it's happened all the time in the past so i don't think there's any need to be concerned at this point. Relax and hold

volatility in btc is normal.

Take a look at a btc chart with 1D timeframe and you will see how this volatility usually
takes the price to newer ATHs in the end

Don't be impulsive and, if you can, try to add some more btc to your collection while it is going down,
adding step by step and not everything at the same time

No instrument moves upward only. There will always be a bull and a bear trend. It can even move sideways for a long time if it is consolidating. Do not worry, if it is going down, buy more bitcoin. Then sell when it goes up again.

This type of moves are common with any type of financial instrument.Major correction happens as and when some performance related news hits the markets in turn making the prices to drop or increase. So its in the normal course these moves happens and many buyers enter the market at this juncture.Volatality also depends on the volume as well of buyers and sellers.

yes of course bitcoin is very volatile. We cant never tell if the price is going up or down. Were just being so impatient to the point that were going to sell what we have because were on the panic that bitcoin might get lower. Its just because of the holiday season and more people often want to feel generous thats why theyd withdraw theyre coins that results to low price of bitcoin.
