Would it be okay if I made a program (and sell it here) which would enable you to schedule posts?

If this is the wrong section, please move it.
So, what is the purpose of this 'post scheduler' program? I mean, is it meant only to post for you (for your signature campaign)? If so, I don't think the moderators will allow you to sell such program. Well, I believe that you are permitted to sell anything in the marketplace as long as it will not break the forum rules or the marketplace rules.

I think this application would be fine. Just run it through Theymos or a mod, just in case.

However I do think this thread belongs in Meta, as it is asking whether a service would be against forum rules, not an announcement of a service.

How can he run the application through Theymos or mods ? Does that make any sense ? I don't think so.The thread doesn't belong in Meta as it's particularly not regarding the forum issues but a third party service which is likely to spread spam in the forum is being introduced for purchase.

Automating/scheduling posts in advance is ok. However, if it is a generated post from a set of keywords, it would be considered spam as it may not contain any good point in the active discussion thread. So, mods will delete it. However, if the bot spams with unlimited number of posts, then mods need gallons of coffee. I best suggest to do not distribute the bot.

From what I can see, what the bot is is a bot where you can write posts and save them, and it will post those posts one by one after a given time.

e.g. If you want to post something as a newbie, but you have to wait for the 6 minute cooldown, you could schedule the bot to post your post after 6 minutes. Also, if you want to start posting as soon as the new sig campaign round starts, you could do that with the bot.

Correct me if im wrong.
Yes, you could write messages in advance and save them with a certain date. The program would post this for you on this date.

wow then i think who is using signature campaign as farming will be needing this bot as they are running more accounts in signature campaign and they have to write so many post for each account . Your bot will give them time saving of writing back and back and waiting for writing another post.

Like this your bot will be encouraging the farming users which is i think against the rules of this forum.

Mm, I was thinking about giveaways or updates like, guess it could get abused..won't go through with it

I think you could still go through with this idea; if people abuse it then it should be evident because their posts wouldn't make sense. Another workaround I thought might work is to make every post made with your bot say "This is an update/bump post made by an automated bot" so if people are really abusing them it would be evident. Try posting or moving this thread to   the "meta" subforum, you might get more attention there, and maybe even an official reply by a mod.

Thanks you, will do!

Thinking about it, at first sight it should not be illegal but... when someone posts he either does it to reply to a thread (and thus needs to be at that moment in front of the computer to know what that thread is about) or to post news...(which, if scheduled, would not be very "news"). Perhaps some delayed announcements or other kind of posts may justify and scheduler but... does not seem to have many "legal" uses.

Weren't you the guy who's post about a new bot which schedule posts and manage's upto 5 accounts just got deleted ? Roll Eyes

I'm pretty sure you're that noob coder. You deserve a ban. Wink

Nope, but I did reply to it. Just asking if I code this, and sell it, I would be 'legal'

I'm actually not sure if this would be "legal"; will the users have to write out the posts they schedule, (which probably would be legal, but I don't see any point in a bot for this) or will this farm posts by typing up something generic? (which probably will be against forum rules)
There aren't enough details provided.

There's a topic for a bot, which automatically bumps your (marketplace) topic, once 24h have passed.

However, the sort of bot you offered, used for farming payments from signature campaigns, certainly is not ok at all.

Not many noticed it (except whywefight I guess if I spelled that members name right),he even commented on it.The user was selling a bot which posts multiple times with a specific set of keywords from 5 accounts. He was offering the bot as free download with a virus total link. When I scanned the URL ,two malicious files were shown.I'm pretty sure the above user was the one offering the post spammer bot.Maybe the mod who deleted his thread would know more.
