You have a huge organization and yet you didn't seem to bother put any of the teams online presence on your site like their facebook, linkedin, twitter, why is that?
I don't want to check if these people are real, and if they are and they are connected to you in any way. I just make the shortcut that probably none of these people are really working to you.

Thank you for raising this concern, we will fix this and add all proper linkedin links to our team members and ambassadors on the website.
Meanwhile, you can check our team members in our linkedin company pages: https://www.linkedin.com/company/threefold-foundation/people/ and https://www.linkedin.com/company/threefold-tech/people/ and you are free to contact any of our team members and ask any questions Smiley
Thank you for your interest,

Nickolay,
ThreeFold Team.

I didn't heard about this network but i also can't trust the cloud computer, if something happen or a person with bad intentions can get access to that data is not good at all, privacy is privacy and should have some limit.

You touch an important point here indeed. But the beauty of the system is that it keeps all data private: the idea is that data at rest is encrypted and split up over different nodes (‘dispersed storage’), in a way that an individual node has no meaningful data. The OS has no interface for the farmer, and the data remains in the hands of the person/party that is able to recollect the pieces, the only one able to do so is the truthful data owner (or his digital representation, called his 3bot).
Also, this storage dispersion with low redundancy helps in having a really efficient backup system.

A lot of elements have been implemented to have privacy in an autonomous way, which is: without the need of some human actor intervening to secure the network. Because indeed, that wouldn’t work, a very high number of small nodes can’t be managed with human intervention. Consequence: privacy guaranteed by design. And at a lower cost, which is a positive side effect of the advanced automation.

Are you sure that you really are curious about them and you're just asking what our thoughts? It's obvious that you are for that project and you're trying to extend the exposure that you can get by asking a question as if you're not part of them.
The fact that you posted ANN thread for them means that it's not curiosity that you have.

maybe he wants to ask other people's opinions in this way, whatever he just wants to hear the opinion so in my opinion it's valid.

Hi everyone,

My name is Nickolay, I'm from the ThreeFold team.

Let me add some clarifications to the questions raised here.
1. We already have working technology, and any engineer can try it now. We can run any workloads that run on Linux for a fraction of a cost than traditional cloud providers will charge, plus our platform allows developers to create fully autonomous, secure and decentralized applications that provide 100% data ownership to the end-users. All this is possible for new projects that will use all abilities of our tech.
2. The cloud market is growing rapidly and we don't see a need to compete with Amazon, Alibaba, etc at least for the next 3-5 years, as there are big emerging regions in the world that are lacking capacity due to scalability limitations of traditional datacenter providers, like Africa, South America, etc.
3. We could serve as a complementary layer that can run any blockchain network to make them more scalable and secure, due to the autonomous nature of our platform.

If you're interested in learning more please jump onboard to our community telegram we would love to have you!

There is code to show, it’s all open source on https://github.com/threefoldtech .
Something being open source is meaningless to most people because they have no clue about how to verify anything they see on Github. It has turned out to be a buzzword more than anything.

Overall, I have yet to see a successful decentralized cloud project attract users for the use aspect.... thus far people have only eye for the speculative aspect, which is something that needs to change in order to be used by people.

I agree on the open source, only thing you can conclude about it is that this is not some scam, there is something real behind. And I guess techies can go deeper then. The tech whitepaper (link on the website) explains quite a bit.
The TF token is not meant to be speculative but really for buying and selling capacity. So some kind of a ‘stable’ coin, but with another definition than we are used to: not backed by fiat money or gold, but with internet capacity behind: new tokens are only created after a farmer had his node online during a full month with a minimum service level %. And over a period of 5yrs, after which the hardware is considered as outdated. Curious indeed how that mechanism works out.

Hey Guys, I'm super curious to know what you guys think of threefold.io , they're basically the biggest decentralized grid of self-managing internet,

I'm super excited to see what's coming next for this project, they've previously raised $5M privately.

If you're a developer of a retail investor, I would suggest to join their chat and speak to their team: https://t.me/threefoldnetwork

Check out their technical documentation and let us know on this thread what you think of THREEFOLD

hmm, i haven't heard of this one before, the website looks really interesting...
sadly at the end of the day its just another nigerian prince scam? bunch of promises and asking for money upfront Sad
they dont seem to have actually DONE any work that can be SEEN? lol atleast with services like Golem theres a github where one can judge for themselves the effort put in
look at the size of this team too Cheesy and theres no code to show Cheesy   ok then!  Roll Eyes

There is code to show, it’s all open source on https://github.com/threefoldtech . Please have a look, there is an installation guide as well. Their websites are running on the technology. A lot of info can be found on the website, and the team is substantial: https://www.threefold.io/public/#/team

oh, nice, i missed that, excellent, thx for links!  looks like there IS actually quite a bit of work here, sweeet Smiley
i guess the only question now is can they compete with the big bois ? the big cloud hosters like AWS i mean
its a shame they are not promoting it more, i had forgotten about this one already, was weeks ago i took a quick glance at it Tongue
if they have large team ,why are you a random newbie the only one talking about it here?

As far as I understand, they don’t want to compete themselves with the big boys, as it’s the farmers that own the hardware. After all, decentralisation is the core idea, so no reason to own it all themselves.  There is already a cloud provider taking some size that really believes in the idea: https://www.greenedgecloud.com/ . And they partner with HPE that will be able to deliver certifiable hardware (where you can’t lie about the capacity you offer as a farmer). And an advantage of small capacity nodes is that it’s far easier to have capacity local and very close to its consumption. With 5G, smart cities and the big expected growth of data usage, this is a big plus, I believe, that a central cloud provider will never be able to compete with.
I think promotion will come, as the IEO is only planned as from end of Jan.

For me, I don't think all these cloud computing projects would compete outside the crypto space, where are the Golem, Dadi, Somn etc of these world with all the promises before their ICO, that all failed to deliver any sound product. I don't see them compete with Amazon nor Microsoft in the space so I don't see the decentralisation

Well, this one is delivering, their websites run on the technology. The 3bot connect app can be installed on your phone. And it’s not only about compute like Golem, and not only about storage like filecoin, sia etc. It contains an OS, still Linux as kernel but with storage dispersed over different independent nodes. It’s fully decentralized as capacity can be rented from a grid of independent farmers, each of them owning hardware on which runs the zero-OS operating system. The project started already early years 2000, evidently not for the blockchain component, but the founder is a pioneer When it comes to data storage mechanisms.
They didn’t like to do an ICO. They were funded privately so far. The IEO now is not even selling promises, it’s simply the distribution of already farmed tokens, you’d better call it the noting on a new exchange. And a token represents internet capacity (compute, storage, memory) in the same way as Amazon or Microsoft are having their price for the internet capacity that is centrally owned by them. So there is value behind this token.

So please do your homework, and do it seriously, before judging.
