'Digital Fiat', without blockchain - is not a cryptocurrency, 'Digital Fiat' based on blockchain - is a cryptocurrency, XRP is centralized cryptocurrency.
To begin with, frankly, it hooked more than anything else, because it seems to me that today, nevertheless, many already understand that people should and will accept cryptocurrency as a means of payment and nothing else.

For sure it is not a crypto currency and the majority of investors are not getting this. I cannot understand people that are supporting such projects because the idea of crypto currencies is to make the world decentralised.
Actually most of the features and the structure of ripple is based on the cryptocurrency. It is using the blockchain technology that is why people think it as the cryptocurrency. In actual we can call it as a digital currency as the word crypto mean hidden and anonymous which the XRP is not.
Very correct explanation and it is today fully supported by the community. Many people understand that today there are a very large number of processes that are not controlled by the XRP coin exactly as cryptocurrency. It seems to me that in general the situation may change for the better, because this project will be beneficial only for banks.

It all depends on the fact that you attribute the term "cryptocurrency"? In principle, XRP has a good encryption algorithm, but everyone is confused by the centralized management of this coin.

As for cryptocurrency today, it’s still difficult to call this project a cryptocurrency. You are absolutely correct in saying that you need to correctly understand what cryptocurrency is for you. Now I think that centralization today is still an important aspect.

it's literally a cryptocurrency, why do you think its listed on a site that tracks cryptocurrency, even though its a centralized it's still a cryptocurrency in the end, decentralized or not.

Unfortunately, it’s hard for me to understand that you’ll have it, because I think that all the same cryptocurrency is a centralized system, because today most of the cryptocurrency will belong to very many rich people and today they manipulate the market.

It is actually a concurrency, however, it has a different concept and technology as the centralized coin. generally, many coins will be decentralized. But different with XRP, this has interesting concept by conceptualizing with the banks. Whatever the concept, in fact, XRP really has great volume and graphic market so far.

Xrp is a crypto currency but it's a centralised one, so it almost the same with the Fiat, xrp is back up by banking system, even though xrp is a centralised crypto, the growth is quite good , xrp consider as one of the potential coin for the future, and it could generated huge profit by holding it for long term

XRP of course cryptocurrency, but  centralized and controlled. A large number of XRP is the developers, at least before it was so, and because of this, in my opinion the XRP are subject to manipulation. I don't buy a Ripple and stay away from it.
It is a well-founded opinion, but I see that recently the volume of comments has increased, which today is still increasing the panic about XRP, I think that the best thing now is to work against the market.

How do you define "cryptocurrency"? And why do you think it's important when we are talking about investment opportunities? Crypto is still a bubble that is being pumped by the guys that want to earn more money using market manipulations. If they see that Ripple is a good opportunity for reaching their goals they won't care about its crypto properties Smiley

Already with the fact that it is centralized, I would not consider it a crypto, for me, a crypto has to be a currency based on the blockchain and be decentralized and anonymous and I think ripple does not meet all those requirements, now if it is a good investment or not? that would be another discussion.

Ripple only controls 7% of the XRP Ledger and 27% of the UNL's and thats decreasing.  They can only release 1% of total supply each month for sale of which those sales go towards developing the XRP ecosystem which they have done brilliantly thus far.  The link below will cite irrefutable evidence against each of the claims you make.  You should take some time and listen to David Schwartz the chief cryptographer and CTO at Ripple- a brilliant mind.  Have a nice day and good luck!

Base on your question, I can conclude that ripple is a cryptocurrency. Because the meaning of cryptocurrency is the next digital currency. So ripple is part of that. And also ripple is listed in coinmarket cap with the other tokens and coins.

lol that scam listed on coin marketcrap
XRP is slaves choice.

What are your thoughts on Elixxir?  You've obviously been in the space for a long time and follow BTC closely.  From my research he seems to have really solved the scaling issue that will bring BTC down while maintaining security?  Their consensus mechanism looks genius and is comparable to XRP's in terms of being sustainable for the environment.  David Chaum is a legend and I'll be investing the first chance I can.  Fortunately, Im an accredited investor and plan to get in before it goes live on exchanges.  My view is that Elixxir is the better BTC and will cover the peer to peer customer facing transactions and XRP will dominate the B2B space and certainly all cross-border B2B payments.  It will be interesting to see how SV evolves as well.

Also, I asked you a few days ago if you could point me to some evidence that XRP is a scam?  I never heard from you.  From my research they have carried through their decentralization plan ahead of schedule and are already significantly more decentralized than BTC and ETH.  The R3 Corda settler deal is affirmation that XRP appeals to independent and reputable firms not affiliated with Ripple.  In fact, they were in a dispute with Ripple!  Also, they have been very transparent with XRP quarterly updates and the community knowing exactly when and how XRP is sold for institutional development.  They have really fostered the XRP ecosystem brilliantly and thus far I couldn't be happier as an XRP holder.  Please let me know if I'm way off base and exactly how with proof.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Firstly we need to define what cryptocurrency is.
In my deduction, cryptocurrency should have a mode of transmission without dependency to a single server, organization or entity and has no intermediate system to transfer between person A to B. So, yeah Ripple is a cryptocurrency for me.

You have the wrong idea of a cryptocurrency. A cryptocurrency is based on cryptographic code and has its own blockchain. Ripple has no blockchain and it isn't mined. It was made and distributed with a lot of it being held by its creators. It's the opposite of a cryptocurrency not only because it doesn't have a blockchain but also because it's centralized and managed by a company.

There is not doubt about XRP being a good cryptocoin even in this bear market where many coins has lost close to 90% of their value in the beginning of this year, Ripple to some extent is quite stable more than many of them. They have a working products alrealdy and many global brands have started using their products.

All of your answers can be found here.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.  XRP ledger is quite decentralized as Ripple only controls 7% of the XRP ledger and 27% of the UNL's.  These numbers are decreasing rapidly.  The XRP ledger will be completely decentralized in about a year.

XRP we can call it a cryptocurrency, but it uses a centralized system, so it's a controlled currency. But although it uses a centralized system, it is a currency that enjoys a real success. As we can see, XRP has reached the second place on the coinmarketcap, surpassing Ethereum. Yes, it is indeed one of the fastest increases in cryptocurrency.

I hate such centralised coins like Ripple. It is getting even more sad, when I see how much people are investing in this coin. Guys, you need to understand that we should support crypto currencies and not centralised solutions.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when looking at the XRP ledger over the past 18 months it's presently significantly more decentralized than BTC and ETH.  Yes, they arrive at consensus differently and after exhaustive research I feel XRP is faster, less expensive and more secure.  Presently Ripple only controls 7% of the validators on the ledger and only 27% of the UNL's.  They have been replacing one of their validators for every new 2 independent ones that come up.  As the ecosystem and network are expanding faster than anything else its clear that XRP will be completely decentralized in roughly 1 year... while BTC and ETH become more centralized and destroy the planet with POW in the process.  Proof of work was a huge technology breakthrough and I'm grateful for all that Satoshi has brought to the world but its time to move on to Gen 2 and XRP is superior in every way.

Regarding the OP's question: I don't think anything in the market is a useful crypto currency.  With BTC transactions on ledger can take hours to settle and fees are outrageously high. Same with ETH and even for LTC.  XRP is currently the most useful but I would never actually use it as one because I expect the price to go up 200x over the next 5 years.  In 5 years I'd hate to think that I paid $1000 for a cup of coffee, lol.  Nano and XLM are fast but have zero liquidity so anything more than a micro payment will result in massive slippage and Nano has security issues.  David Chaum's new project Elixxir looks really promising but won't be available for a while.  I'll be investing in this along with holding my XRP and FCT long-term.

You will never see anything like this about the original message, it is very hard to think that XRP may in the future generally receive the status of the first project, such as BTC today, but I do not rule out this despite all centralization.

Usually investors do not care about the nature of certain crypto, they just buy something that grows or something that is able of growth in the nearest future.
This is a problem that today is not being solved just like that, because today most of the investors have left the market altogether, because today people are still trying to invest in projects correctly, but it turns out chaotically.

I do not think that XRP is cryptocurrency, there are already a lot of opinions on this subject, but most people really do not consider it as such. I believe that XRP is too controlled a currency, which is not very logical for cryptocurrency, it was created for this, I think it has potential, because banks believe in it, so it can achieve something, although I doubt it.

the excesses of ripple have recently been discovered that they are coins that are fully controlled by bankers, from 100 billion supply, some 20 billion specifically allocated to the ripple founder, strange? certainly not, but I am more convinced this is a malicious version of bitcoin due to money controlled potential, worse than bch.

It depends upon your observation on what really you can define about cryptocurrency. For me, if it is listed on the coinmarketcap, surely by referring to that if its listed on that surely we can assume that it is really a cryptocurrency. But ripple on the bad side is not decentralized, compared to other coins.

It seems to me that this is a centralized crypto asset supported by large banks. Cryptocurrencies, by their nature, must be decentralized. On the one hand, this increases the reliability of this asset, and on the other, it puts it on the same level as other banking assets and services - deposits and securities.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. I do not like Ripple and think that this coin is not a crypto currency. Not really, it is centralised and controlled crypto, so I would not consider it in the spirit of bitcoin or ethereum that really extend the decissions much farther.

And where did you see the definition of cryptocurrency?
The definition from wikipeda: "A cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses strong cryptography to secure financial transactions, control the creation of additional units, and verify the transfer of assets."

Do you see know any decentralization in the definition?
No!
And which cryptocurrency is really decentralized?
Bitcoin?
No! (Bitmain own more than 50% of mining power)
Ethereum?
No! (Vitalik is a strong name in Ethereum)

So what's the point of creating a currency in blockchain technology but it is a centralized platform? If ripple is centralized then what's in the kind of people behind it or the developers purpose on creating this currency?

Blockchain technology is for decentralization purpose but now I read about this XRP issue of being a centralized currency.

What could be the point of the developers for creating such centralized crypto currency?

Perhaps Ripple is correctly perceived as a symbiosis of fiat money and cryptocurrency, but this is in any case a coin that is on the cryptocurrency list

I will never invest in xrp whose value is centralized.
there are lots of crypto that are really real like BTC and ETH that are worth investing in.

But if you can take another profit from ripple, you can invest in that coins, right? I don't think that people will let this opportunity gone because I am sure that every people want to make a profit from any coins and he will try the best buy from the coins. But I agree that bitcoin is the real cryptocurrency, and I still hold and want to buy more bitcoin if necessary because I want to make a big profit from any coins especially from bitcoin. So right now, I am waiting for the ripple price to increase so I can sell my ripple again.

XRP (Ripple) is cryptocurrency but it is a centralized crypto. Ripple is traded mostly on BTC and ETH pair, you know BTC downed form $20k to $6k and ETH downed from $1.4k to only $200. That's why its value downed but if you see the price in ETH or BTC, it remains remarkable position not downed to much. Ripple is enhancing cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin also, not destroying the market.

Yes, in this even it is difficult to doubt. If the Internet to introduce" the best cryptocurrency to trade in the cryptocurrency market", in the first place of these cryptocurrencies will be Ripple.

To be honest, in my opinion, investors are slightly important is the ripple cryptocurrency at 100% or not. It is important for them that investments bring profit. And as we observed quite recently there are all the prerequisites for returning the price to the previous limits and even higher.

Of course, Ripple is really a cryptocurrency, just with some technical features, nothing more. But this does not mean that you need to invest in it.

In my view yes, xrp is definitely a crypto currency as it is based on blockchain technology, however, there could be a debate about how decentralized it really is, because the critics of xrp think that the large percentage of xrp is still held by the company so they can control the supply and value of xrp in the market, i think as a company ripple should answer the critics.

I see constantly a lot of controversy about the ripple, but I can say that this is a great coin that has proven itself to be one of the most powerful cryptocurrencies. I note that it is cryptocurrency and not something else

I tend to the negative answer, because this "cryptocurrency" belongs to banks, in addition, about 40% of tokens are in the hands of developers who promised not to use tokens on their accounts.

XRP is a real cryptocurrency. Why is it listed on exchanges if it is not. Right? You get it? It is not consider as crypto if it isn't so don't think twice or once whether it is a currency nor it isn't.

It is due to the growing public interest in cryptocurrencies that the Ripple payment system was able to get a share of its attention. But, at its core, it is very different from the usual types of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin.

More likely no than Yes. Since the unit itself is not supported by mining, and is an alternative system of payments and tied to real money, not computing power.

It's all about how you define a cryptocurrency.
There are some cryptography on use and transaction of Ripple. And Ripple is also used as currency.
It can be related to current date ICO or call it the first ever ICO. So, it's a token. And it's upto you to call it cryptocurrency or not.
When it first came, people thought a company issuing a token without letting users mine and selling them on an artificial price is no cryptocurrency.
But now that practice is too common.

As a technology, the Ripple platform may have real value and real history that validate the claims they make for its efficacy. The XRP token itself, however, seems to have negligible use cases. In fact, Ripple had planned to phase it out — at least, until fevered interest in cryptocurrencies began to take off in 2016. Nevertheless, as CNBC noted today, if Ripple hits $6.57, its market capitalization will be bigger than Bitcoin’s.

Ripple is a crypto currency no doubt. It has achieved plenty of hype and has many positive news, but also has got a few court claims against it so is a bit dangerous to invest.

Ripple news: Is XRP really a cryptocurrency?

RIPPLE returned to the all-important $0.50 mark following bitcoin’s remarkable rise to $7,500 this week. However, one expert has warned that ripple is “not a cryptocurrency” and could miss out on the regulation that catapults bitcoin and ethereum on to bigger and better things.

Ripple’s remarkable journey from obscurity to $3.40. back down to today’s price of $0.49 could soon see it ring-fenced from other competing cryptocurrencies, with concern over its centralisation potentially excluding XRP from entry into a price boosting regulatory framework.

Last week, rival bitcoin recruited another billionaire believer from the world of mainstream finance after it was revealed that investor Steven Cohen has placed money into a hedge fund focusing on cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based companies.

Cohen Private Ventures has invested in Autonomous Partners, a new hedge fund buying up cryptocurrencies and equity in blockchain-related companies as the world of mainstream finance begins the search for the “next generation” of investments in the digital age.
However, Ripple is one notable absence from the spate of technologies in which Autonomous Partners is interested, raising concern that the XRP tokens will be treated differently when regulations arrive.

If the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US decides that the tokens are securities they could then be subject to different laws than tokens that are not.

Arianna Simpson, from Autonomous Partners said: “I have a lot of concerns about the level of centralisation there, and I have regulatory concerns if what they have issued is a security.

Anatoly Castella, CEO, Elpis Investments told Express.co.uk that ripple's XRP is set to miss out because it is not a "Digital Fiat", and not a “real” cryptocurrency
Mr Castella warns that XRP falls short of the “purest interpretation of ‘cryptocurrency’.”

He said: “Ripple resembles a fintech platform combining the best elements of fiat money and blockchain cryptocurrency.

“It should be considered 'Digital Fiat', not a cryptocurrency.”

On the potential for missing out on the very regulations that go on to propel rival cryptocurrencies to all new price levels, Mr Castella says that the SEC should consider to creating a regulatory framework for ‘digital fiats' like ripple and a sustainable ecosystem for the “crypto startups”, currently “held in a state of limbo”.

He said: “This will ensure that ‘real’ cryptocurrencies like bitcoin will not be damaged and misunderstood by these start-ups adopting the wrong regulatory approach from the outset.”
