Just a few month ago hdd mining was very profitable. And yes people who started as late as Jan 18' or Feb 18' have got their ROI.

But the main thing is it's ASICs and FPGA resistance. This is true democratic mining. We need more innovative alternative.

Yes, hdd is in itself an ASIC for these coins. Awesome.

You won't break even. Indeed, that's even if you can get the damn wallets to load these days...

Lots of burst fans would probably disagree with you and tell you they've ROI-ed 10 times over on their HDDs. Truth is, yeah, unless you started HDD mininng a year ago or later, you will have a difficult time ROI-ing on your equipment.

I am however confident that proof-of-storage is safe from ASICs. If you think of it, HDDs are already ASICs, they are specific to 1 application, which is storing data. Can't get more simple and direct as that.

Not 100%,
BURST is safe from breaking even

What does "safe from breaking even" mean?

I apologize if this feels silly question but I was thinking isn't Hard Disk mining like storj or burst safe from ASICs ?

Not 100%, I thought of a way of making an asic for burst but I'd rather not share incase it would actually work. I'm not just being a jackass. I didn't do all the math, but I think it would work.

BURST is safe from breaking even, lol. It's fun.
You should share the idea and let the community discuss if you are against ASICs. Because if it is true then some company will eventually make it. So share it so maybe we can find a way to stop them.

I think there's nothing to do for Asic in proof-of-capacity world. Asic is all about hash/computing power.
As I remember, I check whitepaper or some articles about Burst and Storj, they said that Burst and Storj are true asic-resistance. By the way, even mining Burst coin is too hard this time, the block reward is halved but the difficulty is almost 3x after just few months.

good question I do not know the answer but my guess would yes.  Since you need to proof  size of storage to earn coin.

you could try them

Edit : I don't want to mine them, just wanted to clear some doubts.
