Out of curiosity.. what vendor are we talking about?

I honestly can't imagine how someone would generate a non-valid address in the first place.
A mistake when copy/pasting it might happen.. but telling you that this address indeed is correct after you have contacted him... seems to be quite weird. And untrustworthy.

Do you trust in his competence to recognize an incoming transaction if he can't verify whether the address he mentioned to you is correct or not?

Thanks a lot for all your inputs, that's helping. I am glad to know it's not only me having a problem with this address.  I'm contacting the vendor to see of he can re-issue a new address.
Have a good day !

The address that was posted simply has an invalid checksum.
Code:
1pX8coEJV5F6Qa6t9ihXj9P9yGh99SxiM
0008fcb3dbc9a70faeba1884969569f7473e5615bb49049702
checksum = 49049702
double SHA256(0008fcb3dbc9a70faeba1884969569f7473e5615bb) = 49034e7e01b107818c805fd1dcd207657e1c420a69fe13e435e4cbfe9a04ecbe
expected checksum = 49034e7e

Or...

A valid checksum, and an invalid pubkey hash.  I definitely wouldn't re-build the address using the "correct" checksum and assume I then had the correct address.  Much safer to get the recipient to CAREFULLY verify that the address you are attempting to use is the one he intended to send and/or ask for a new address.

That's weird I can check this address on explorer but I can't import this address to almost all well-known wallets.
Block explorers are known to act weird and should never be used for verification like this.

Edit: I'm just pointing out where the problem is, you shouldn't try to manually fix it. Read the comment below by @DannyHamilton

I tried on electrum but the next button is grayed out when importing it as a watch-only wallet even coinb.in when making a transaction I got this result below.

Maybe i'll ask the seller to re-issue a fresh one ? (i guess they can)

That's the only option but if another address still not valid well tell him that to make a new wallet instead.

I can also confirm that the address is invalid. I have tried checking it with 4 different software wallets, and they all show the invalid address format error. Chances are very high that he missed a digit or let while trying to copy for you the address. Tell him to get you another one.

hello,

thanks for your comments.
Yes i contacted them again, they confirmed the same address.
No i do not think there is extra character (like a space) at the end, i did it several times, tried to type it also instead of copy pasting.
The address is: 1pX8coEJV5F6Qa6t9ihXj9P9yGh99SxiM

let me know if you think of something Smiley

It is not a valid address. I get the same issue if I paste it into a wallet. Just ask for a new address.

Is it safe to share a bitcoin address on a forum ?

Yes. The address is derived from the public key. Both can be shared without compromising security.

Regarding your issue.. it seems like the address simply is invalid.
Maybe there is a character missing at the end? Or one too much?

Feel free to post the address here and we can take a look at it.

Are you sure you copied the address without editing it? If so, ask the recipient to double check it and send it again (assuming that it's not an service/exchange).

And yes, it's safe to share your address online but we'll be able to see your transactions and balance.

Hello,

I am new to the bitcoin realm, but I have been able to create wallets and send money from one wallet to another. Now I am facing difficulties trying to pay a seller. The address provided is not accepted, in any of my wallets, whether online or offline. I contacted the seller that claims the address is correct and working.
