Bitstamp Bitcoin Exchange Hacked, $5 Million Stolen in Hack Attack

"On January 4th, some of Bitstamp’s operational wallets were compromised, resulting in a loss of less than 19,000 BTC. Upon learning of the breach, we immediately notified all customers that they should no longer make deposits to previously issued bitcoin deposit addresses. To repeat, customers should NOT make any deposits to previously issued bitcoin deposit addresses. As an additional security measure, we suspended our systems while we fully investigate the incident and actively engage with law enforcement officials."

if bitstamp has not recovered tomorrow, I can sure it's mtgox2. I suggest we should move to bitfinex and lakebtc as the main exchange.
It just lost a few og thier coin. So it will not be mtgox2.
Initially, MtGox also said so, but don't hurry, just wait and see
in terms of volume, btc-e bitfinex lakebtc are nice alternatives

Already several threads on this. Site was down since last night until they can assess and/or resolve it. I'm still waiting for it to come back to do my usual trading.

That's what I was going to say.  Maybe they can sticky the main thread for a while when there's crisis on a major exchange, help reduce the congestion.

Just received this note from them:

-----

Dear customer,

Today our transaction processing server detected problems with our hot wallet and stopped processing withdrawals.

You should STOP SENDING bitcoin deposits to your Bitstamp account IMMEDIATELY as private keys of your deposit address may be lost.

Your bitcoins already deposited with us are stored in a cold wallet and can not be affected.

We will send you more info as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Bitstamp team
