It is like a person whose birthday falls on February 29th.
It is time to celebrate, once every four years.  Smiley

I was thinking along those lines when I started to read this tread.  Interesting to read to jumps in prices that people are estimating BitCoins will be in a year, two years and beyond as well as what the price of BitCoins were when halving occurred the last couple of times.

So, shall we pencil in another four years henceforth for the next halving to BTC 6.25 - around the 8th of July 2020?

many people think that halving is only beneficial for bitcoin. but you are wrong. it also has several drawbacks and the price may dump too after the halving. note that like the last halving, this year too the price will not reflect changes in one, two or three days. so the sad whales will start dumping and we can see a huge dump if that happens unfortunately. but i m thinking postive and just holding my coins for long term to get high profits and so you should.

Recently checked to see when bitcoin was going to halve reward from 25 to 12.5. This would in some senses be a bitcoin new year. I managed to rediscover btc in 2013, so my experience has been in this segment of the 25 btc reward.

With current tops of near to $800, the price may be where the market expects btc to be with the halving, but if that hasn't effected the markets yet, then that would be interesting. Will we see prices move to $1,800 in the next few days and hold because of the halving or will it stay at the $800 (currently one exchange showing $661).

What do you think will happen?

Happy Bitcoin New Year by the way (every ~4 years)!!!

It will stay at 800$, the increase had already occurred weeks before the actual halving. Bitcoin users are playing safe and will no longer do panic buying which will lead to an increase in bitcoins monetary value. But let's wait after the halving, I believe there will still be a price inflation. Regardless of halving price will eventually go up and that's we are after for and not having itself.

I think the count down indeed feels like it is new year. So I hope in this "New Years" bitcoin will growth even more with the challenges of blocksize and scaleup issues upon us. This will be another different 4 years that I am sure will see bitcoin being accepted more and more!

So true @7788bitcoin from a development point of view, bitcoin will need to work flawlessly with the demand from people using it. With acceptance, this last bitcoin year had seen more and more online retailers to accept bitcoin. This next 4 years will see more and more places accepting bitcoin for purchases. This is proving the be the biggest area of growth in bitcoin, places accepting bitcoin. I think this will be the main drive for a few more bitcoin years before usage really starts. Imagine a world wide web explosion of growth kind of increase in usage.

I think price of bitcoin will going down after couple month halving block happen because i looked last halving block of bitcoin, the price was going down and my opinion it will going on again. But it is just my prediction there are not people who know about the future.

densuj in the first bitcoin year (by block halving) it went from $0.000769231 per bitcoin (based on satoshis 1,300 per $1) to ~$3. The second year (the current) went from ~$12 to what we have right now with ~$650.

1st year increase: 389899% (389899.88300003513% to be exact)
2nd year increase: 5316% (5316.666666666666% to be exact)

We should see 1000% increase still through the next 4 years or 10 times increase.

Bitcoincoin New Year? Maybe a new year having a new bitcoin reward being halves. We are expecting the bitcoin to rise value in dollars but it seems days are fast approaching.is it July 11? Almost days from now but it seems the rise is slow Smiley Keep watching...

102 blocks to go. My estimate is 17 hours from now.
You're not wrong; a lot of clocks are placing the halving at around 17 hours from now, give or take ten minutes. In a good way I'll be able to wake up tomorrow and see that the halving is basically on the verge of occurring if it hadn't already occurred by that point, and it'll be relatively early in the morning as well, so it'll be even better.

I'm definitely counting down the time.
