what if people use gox because they're afraid that other exchanges carry more risk, generally, from hacks to the recent sudden closing of bitfloor and temporary fund freezing.

If you feel so strongly about it, I urge you to do something before it is too late. Start your own exchange now while you still can. Relying on other people to solve your problems for you is ineffective, and crying about it won't solve anything.

True.  However, more exchanges have been made, and nobody is using them in lieu of the Gox.  It's not a problem any one individual can solve.

So, the problem then is not Mt. Gox. The problem is the people using it. Then, it seems that getting rid of Mt. Gox is trying to solve the wrong problem.

Agreed.  Instead, people need to understand why centralization is bad, and understand the repercussions of what will happen if Mt Gox remains the most popular exchange (that being, incredible volatility and an easy source to, for lack of a better term, fuck with Bitcoin and its value.)  Mt Gox is only providing a service; outside from providing a less than quality service, they're doing no wrong.

there will be very little ( if there is any to begin with) in GOXILLA if they cannot operate as a reliable exchange.
i have been dealing in gold and silver for many years and there are numerous places to trade.
bitcoin needs more exchanges with surety bonds posted.
this will keep the market safe, stable and less prone to wild gyrations.
bitcoin is not money it is currency. if there is little or no confidence in it
it is no better than any fiat currency
