I did google it; I just figured you meant something else / some special term used in bitcoin.

I bet you are just another INTP . Loads of us here....

What's INTP?

I am new too. Can't help to wonder where bitcoin is heading. I read about MtGox was hacked about 2-3 weeks ago. And since then, what has been done at these exchanges? Are the security much higher now? Is it safer to transact?

Because if it's not, bitcoin will die in its infancy state considering the limited number of people and businesses that are aware about bitcoin. One has to admit ... at this stage, you may have hundreds or even thousands of bitcoins sitting in your wallet.dat; but, without these exchanges to trade in; it's as good as the trash in the bin. You can't survive with it.

You might want to hold off on mining, as others have said, unless you're prepared to invest a good chunk of money in a power-sucking rig.

run it off solar or wind!

Rational Exuberance
I just discovered this yesterday by accident, got interested in the concept, researched it some more, then when I understood the concept, I was shocked. SHOCKED. It is relatively simple yet genius. I spent all day today trying to figure out how to set it up, now I'm mining a solid 9Mhash / s. Is it normal to be this excited? This is practically history in the making. It is revolutionary.

This was exactly how I discovered bitcoin (by accident), and this was exactly my reaction. Of course, bitcoins were 100x cheaper then. IMHO, they will do that 100x thing again (see my signature).

We started really getting into BT about a month ago, got our first rig fully going a few weeks back and switched over to a pool from solo as the difficulty was just killing us (rather have income then nothing).  Our 2nd rig should be fully built within a week, and will be pushing out around 4000MH.  The joy we have, our eletrical costs are 0, as we are in a municipality.  I basically see that we will make the money back from the hardware and have two killer gaming rigs (not that I game) or we can keep putting away with these machines or go ahead and use the rigs to help find a cure for cancer or something.
