Some of the FPGA stuff on the market is interesting.
I doubt the claims some providers are making in regards to upcoming ASIC.

Honestly, your best bet imo is buying 7970's - they will pump out good hash, and retain resale ability should this all go to hell.
7970x2 cards have been seen in the wild tho, and 7990's should debut soon.

Specialized equipment will save you energy and pump out slightly more hash, but there is no secondary market for them.

*waiting for the 7990's myself*

I will take that under advisement. Thanks for the input...

As you I do see the FPGA as having a short mining life span... But something tells me that I will be able to find other uses for them to support the BitForce Single SC's... maybe maybe not...

Being new to the game.... just eliminating the learning curve on the FPGA will be payment enough for me... I want to position myself as best as possible when SC's arrive.  Cool

Welcome Darkzen. You do realize that BFL ASICs are supposedly coming, which means that 40 Gh can be had for $1300? If this does happen, GPU mining will become obsolete. Do as you see fit, of course, but this is a particularly risky time to be putting together a 48 Gh GPU/FPGA farm IMO.

Hummm... Wow...Yeah.... that does put a dampener on the plan.... I am going to go fwd and start with a 1gh for the hell of it...

If BFL ASIC's pop... What's this gonna mean for BC? ... Inflation of the BC and reduced Value ?

Thanks for the intel Dargo... I appreciate it !

No prob - and nothing wrong with building a 1 Gh rig for fun. Also, it might turn out that one can mine alternative cryptocurrency after ASICs come out for BTC (most likely alternative atm is Litecoin). But I wouldn't want to bet a 48 Gh farm on this possibility being profitable (or on the chance that BFL ASICs don't materialize). I think buying BTC is definitely a much better investment than mining right now. Prices may pull in from $11 near term (i.e. in the next few weeks), but ultimately (over the course of years) I think price goes much higher.  And the coming ASIC + reward drop 1-2 punch may be a catalyst that takes price quite a bit higher in the next few months.

Hey Dargo, Are the SHA256 Single's on back order ?

Juz wanted to intro myself...

I have made up my mind to become a Miner. I am running cat6 out 2 the garage this week and bought a 24 switcher.

Goal is to get 48gh going within 6months...

Currently studying on what components are best mobo, GC..ect...

I wish I would have started sooner... oh well... here now !

Look fwd to leaning on some of the vets here till I get up and running... maybe then I can give back what I have learned.

Peace Out !

Darkzen
