It was an entertaining random story  Grin

She can suffer a 15% loss in price and she will still be even so she should be OK; you forced her hand quite a bit and you could have give her a paper wallet instead but she owns 1BTC and it costed her 300£ so she is in

Well I just woke up (working late shifts this week) and she was already up and about. She fetched me a cup of tea and I told her I'd been up late and showed her a new Electrum wallet I'd created for her with the wallet.dat in her name, containing 1.00996667 BTC. I'd bought 1.01 in case some of it got sucked up by transaction fees.

She seemed quite happy with the GBP equivalent but a face of mild concern about having money in this new thing she doesn't fully grasp  Huh

I said, "See all those extra decimal places? If the price goes up you can use those to buy something nice and still have 1 left.". She said if the price goes up she'd put £300 of it back into her savings, where it came from. I guess she still doesn't see it as a currency in its own right. She's gone out now, she's happy enough and might change her mind about it being a viable currency if/when she gets to use it.

Before she went she let me use a double dildo on her whilst letting me piss in her hair.

^That last bit's to keep Gingermod happy.

lol

good stuff.

And well played.

My gf sees the potential and understands most of the technology, but she feels it's overpriced, even after my countless explanations on how the decimal works...

So what will she say when the price/btc hits $10K, $50K or even $500K?  That it's definitely too overpriced to buy one at that point?

This is fundamentally what most people who have not researched bitcoin don't fully understand, that current price/btc (think of it as purchasing power or value per btc) is completely meaningless in the short term.  In order for bitcoin to work as a worldwide currency, purchasing power/btc has to grow way beyond what someone with average means could purchase (unless they had a lot of fiat to convert).  They'll just acquire whatever amount of bitcoin they can at whatever the equivalent going rate for bitcoin is.

It's the same reason that Gold spot price is listed as price/troy ounce, because price/pound or price/ton doesn't work for the average Joe any more.

I really can't wait until the price/coin grows beyond what most people can afford, so that they can see that having a "single" bitcoin becomes completely meaningless in the grand scheme.  It'll all just be bits or whatever the current denomination du jour is.

Lmao

Anyway I think she meant when the price increases by a large enough amount (whatever she thinks is large enough) she will cash out just enough to have £300 and still have bitcoins left. That way she does not have to care about the future value of bitcoin or the risk of losing her wallet or something, as she will have her £300 back.

If bitcoin gains in value even more later than she will have 'free money' as anything beyond the £300 she has withdrawn would be extra money. In my opinion this is a very smart move of your wife and you should not discourage such behavior.

A lot of people in general believe the stock market and a casino are one and the same. To be honest, with their limited abilities, this might actually be true for them Tongue

Yes and I really hate this kind of attitude towards investment in general: People who never spend a single minute on getting informed about finance because of disinterest and laziness calling markets "casino", thereby proclaiming that gaining knowledge about finance is worthless and implying that their disinterest and laziness is the perfect attitude toward this topic.

It's clear and perfectly fair that people who are not interested in educating themselves get burned.

its too bad she doesn't understand the true value of the system, but then again most women are pretty closed minded when it comes to learning about new things they didn't already decide upon themselves. i work with three women and they all think I'm crazy for not only investing in bitcoin, but for investing in anything. seems they only see the potential for loss and simply don't accept that any gains are possible in any situation. i hear a lot of "well if that would work don't you think everyone would be doing it already? sounds too good to be true so it defiantly it" and I'm just like ok enjoy your savings as it bleeds out in your heavily fee'd bank account. when its worth half what you put in in 10 years even tho the number claims you've made a return, ill be laughing. you can tell people all the things they need to hear, but if they won't listen it doesn't matter.

I think you're right. If current value stays flat for two or three weeks and she decides to sell I will be fist in mouth, biting my knuckles as I've got my BTC in cold storage for the long term hold  Wink

I've already mentioned the 27th June Silk Road/US Marshals sale thing to her, so maybe I can persuade her to wait until that blows over.

At least she didn't sell it right away. But I think she will ultimately sell at some point (maybe if price has doubled).

It takes time to develop the right mindset to realize that BTC is actually better, safer money than fiat.

Do yourself a favor OP, instead of sweating over buying a single coin, buy 10 instead.  Give her one, and keep the other 9 for yourself (and keep it secret).  And then hold.  For at least a year.

When bitcoin goes to the moon a year later, dump the girlfriend and spend it on hookers and blow.

She was a bit undecided at first until I showed her a couple of charts, giving her an idea of how it could rally soon. I told her 1BTC would likely cost me an extra £50, and she said "I'll take the bitcoin, but when I want to cash it you must cash it and not try to persuade me to keep it."

She specifically said she has no intention to HODL.

This will not end well if the price starts to crash.
(I am considering jumping on the "sell 50%" bandwagon myself.)

my girlfriend bought a bitcoin, i told her to buy in pieces at certain target points to lower her in price in case she missed some moves. but if that reverse head and shoulders breaks thru any further you may not see these levels much more. but from a long term investment prospective, waiting til morning will likely not break you.

That doesn't even make sense as a double entendre, Gingermod Shame on you.

Right, I'll go and buy since it's been edging upwards recently and I accept no-one wants to convince me to gamble with her money.

Buy the coin and then break up with her.

She ain't desperate for the money. She has other savings.

Or you could just buy 1 BTC and spend chunks of 5-10 dollars to all your friends on social media.

Get her some flowers man, bitches love flowers.

Short story:

I owe my girlfriend £300. I gave her a cheeky ultimatum yesterday: you can have £300 cash when I get paid, or 1 BTC, whatever the cost on 18th June.

She was a bit undecided at first until I showed her a couple of charts, giving her an idea of how it could rally soon. I told her 1BTC would likely cost me an extra £50, and she said "I'll take the bitcoin, but when I want to cash it you must cash it and not try to persuade me to keep it."

My monthly salary has literally just gone in the bank now, and a coin is currently £360.80.

Do I wait for a drop in the morning (it's gone 1am and she's sleeping next to me) or buy, buy, buy in case of a price increase when we wake?

I'm more excited about it than her, to be honest.  Grin

It looks like Bitcoin is about to make a leg up. But don't expect that BTC to treble in value by the end of the month or anything. Infact, be prepared to be whipsawed all over the shop.

Where are you buying it? LocalBitcoin?
