For that price you wont get much. But may i recommend:

1. Find a cheap AM3 motherboard. They can be found with 1 pci-e 16x slot and 2 x 1x slots for under $50 ( you will need 2 pci-e 1x to 16x risers )

2. AMD sempron single core CPU $30

3. 1 2GB stick of ddr-3 ram $20

4. Decent 750w Power supply $80

So lets call that $200 rounding up a little for tax. Now for the GPU's

6950's can be had for about $100 on ebay these days so...

3x 6950 = 1200 - 1500 Kh = $300

Bringing your total to $500

EDIT: oh ya add $5 for a flash drive and a copy of BAMT

Lets go off of 1.25Mh is $3.50 a day

Noow lets factor is a 10% drop in profitability every month

Your estimated ROI is about 7 months

Unless you are actively trading and decent with your trading returns your not going to make much

Or if you get real lucky and a legit new coin comes out that will actually take off and you can become an early adopter of (not just another crappy alt coin)

For $500 I will sell you the following system:

Asus Husdson D3 2x PCI-E motherboard (6 months old, originally $69.99)
AMD AM3+ 2.8GHz Dual Core Processor (6 months old originally $49.00)
4Gb PC-10667 DDR3 RAM (6 months old, originally $40)
60Gb SATA 2.5" Hard Drive (extra I had laying around, have used it for mining ~40ish)
Antec High-Current Gamer 900 Watt PSU (4 months old, originally $169.99)
Sapphire 7950 2L (6 months old, originally $289.99)

And I'll ship it to you provided you're in the US at no extra charge with tracking. I have all the original boxes, manuals, and bits that came with everything but the PSU (I shipped something in that box). Sapphire is still under warranty too, and I will include the NewEgg receipt should you ever need it.

Enough room to add a second PCI-E card for extra mining and more than enough juice to power it too. I'm pretty well rep'd around here, will take PayPal for your piece of mind if you'd like or BTC directly. I'm going to list said system on eBay this week so if anyone's in the market...

Completely, absolutely, 100% pointless to build a miner for return. If you're doing it for the experience or the shits and giggles, I could put something together for you. But, you should know you will make no profit and probably lose money.
