First of all, that link is suspicious so I wouldn't dare myself to click it.

Actually being smart is part of your success but you don't have to be the smartest. Jack Ma is smart because he has seen that he's the first guy that will put up solution on China through his Alibaba.

You dont have to be the smartest to be successful, you only have to be at the right at the right place or get an opportunity and be smart enought to do something with it.
We can think of being smart in anyways, if Ma Is pertaining in having good grade and a lot of credentials since he's story is a bout how many time he been rejected like in Harvard since he doesn't have good grades back in college. We don't need to be smart academically, we need to have plans, dedication and have motivation to keep achieving our goal.

Well, Alibaba was purely created to counter Ebay in China. Jack Ma was handpicked by the Chinese politic party, and had full support from them.

In my point of view, you dont really have to be smart, you can be an average, but what matters is who you know, and who supports you.

E

Who you know, who supports you, who you're willing to work with, if you're willing to throw away your orgiginal ideas to grow (think of google: Don't Be Evil, being removed from its Code of Conduct - https://gizmodo.com/google-removes-nearly-all-mentions-of-dont-be-evil-from-1826153393)

It's a lot, but many people are willing to change massively (or at least put on a persona) in order to get success. And honestly, it's not too surprising.

well, google removed dont do evil from their tag....

You need to be smart, but people confuse the concepts of "educated" and "smart"
A person who has finished school / university with excellent results is not necessarily smart.
Just like a person without education, he can come up with something incredible.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
You don't have to be smart, But you have to be heartless and have no empathy to be successful. To make astronomical profits you have to step on those countless people.

Successful doesn't mean astronomical profit. IMO a successful person has enough money to spend time thinking how to invest it instead of worrying how to pay his bills. A millionaire is for sure successful, but when your monthly income is 2 times the average in your country you're by all means successful.
Usually the measure of success is how much time you can spend on your hobbies and pleasures compared to the time spent working. I'm not successful because I sometimes work for 10 hours a day, but if I were able to cut it by half and still have enough money to satisfy all needs I'd consider myself a winner.

He's right, you don't have to be smart, but then you have to be lucky.
There are some qualities that make up for others like a very hard working but uneducated person can prosper better than a lazy and smart one but one thing is certain, a complete moron will lose sooner or later.

Jack Ma just isn't a smart guy in general, I fully noticed it when I took a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHGd6LqAVzw - He's a guy that maybe had some initial success, but I fully think the rest of it was because he was willing to bend over and take it from the Chinese government.

He works with them, and they gave him a monopoly with his company.

Yes his company is great and all, but I doubt hes the first one to do it. Just the first one that the Chinese allowed to flourish. Major difference.

I didn't open your link. As for Ma, I remember he's already been pushed out of Alibaba forced to sell his shares to "anonymous" people. One was already predicting he'll go the way of another Chinesw businessman who "fell off" a wall in Provence.

But yes, you don't have to be extremely smart, just smart enough for a business idea ans smart enough to hire people smarter than you.

Nonetheless. He was able to build such a big company the same way bill gates and mark Zuckerberg did. You have to respect the guy. And he's making a whole lot of sense with what he said here. There are a lot of smart people that's working under these guys. You have to have a vision and you have to believe in that vision. These guys started out quite low and crawled their way to their current status though dedication and hard work. And believing that your targets are achievable.

being smart means you already know how.
being willing means you want to learn

you do not need to already be smart to do something. you can however be willing to do it.
if you already know how. then obvious the concept is not new or innovative.

but willing to try new things, and learn and create. that is something more powerful than 'having smarts'. its the things that create new concepts, new innovations and try different routes away from those that failed others which may bring you success

Jack Ma is one of the main businessmans who supports 996 hours working system. People have to work from 9AM to 9PM 6 days a week - it's slavery in XXI century IMO... His thoughts about it:
Quote
I personally think that being able to work 996 is a huge blessing," he said in remarks posted on the company's WeChat account.

"Many companies and many people don't have the opportunity to work 996," Ma said. "If you don't work 996 when you are young, when can you ever work 996?"

Maybe you don't have to be extremely smart to become successful. There is mixture of things needed - creativity, hard work, some luck. And as you see from link above, you also have to make harsh decisions which sometimes overstep borders...

That is true.
If you are a hard worker then you can win any smart guy who doesn't give any effort. And additionally to that, I strongly believe that you have to be lucky in order to reach success. Believe it or not, luck plays a vital role for being successful. You have to find the right time in order to catch up and accomplish your goals.

Now that is as harsh as I have ever heard it  Shocked but damn it, if it isn't true!

I think success comes from having a deep ambition to reach ones goals then exceed them. You don't have to be Albert Einstein in order to be a success. You don't necessarily have to have a god given talent that you can manipulate to your advantage. What you do need though is drive. You have to remain optimistic and you have to be adamant about it, relentless. Success clearly isn't for pushovers or the faint of heart. You may spend your days and nights working towards it, only to lose sleep. When you do reach it, you start over and do it again, and again, and again forever accumulating its wealth and what it means to be successful. however, where there is no pain, there is no gain.
