Shopify has more than 2.1 million daily active users. Shopify has processed more than one billion orders. Shopify accounts for $319 billion of global economic activity. Shopify is the third-largest ecommerce platform in the United States.

as the third largest e-commerce in the US, this will encourage other e-commerce to follow shopify's footsteps (accept payments via LN).  shopify is going faster than other e-commerce companies who are still hesitant about adopting cryptocurrency payments.

But what Strike gets from this then if the merchant receives the totality of the transaction? Do they sell a license for using the software?

Someone has to put liquidity to be able to do those conversions, and I guess that's not for free...

Propably Strike takes monthly fee from a store that wants to integrate their system. Store pays 49-99 USD per month and saves the 3% fee from old system fees. Profit.

This is what sells now to the masses.
The technical aspect of the real advantages are not making views, are not getting followers, you need to go full extremist...

Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but for me such presentations are quite irritating and uninteresting, but I understand that these future generations want to listen to just such things - luckily we have the choice to change the program or turn off the TV whenever we want.

I'm disappointed in this thing about usage too but, what can someone do about it?
It's irritating to the core, first we had no services to buy with coins, now we can almost buy everything (by using a third party, acknowledged) but nobody wants to buy stuff anymore, 99% of the holders want Amazon to accept bitcoin but not to use it, they are waiting for a 5x increase in price.

In the end it all comes down to the price of Bitcoin and unfortunately it must be admitted that the vast majority do not care about anything else. If we look at how the crypto market reacts to the Mallers exposure at the conference, then we see that people were mostly disappointed given that for days there has been talk that Apple is the big news. No one takes into account that Apple is not MicroStrategy, and that some of the biggest shareholders like Berkshire Hathaway would certainly not be happy if the company was linked to Bitcoin in any way.

I think the best way to deal with this is to fully admit bitcoin is a tool, and everyone is free to use it as it deems fits...

It's the only logical thing, people need to decide how to use something, and if these big investors send a message with their example that Bitcoin is digital gold, I have no doubt that most of them will follow.

Shame is that usually these decisions are like satellite, I mean, they will only available on certain parts of the world and not only will be able to experience that! Just like the Bitcoin integration in Twitter sometime ago (not exactly sure if it was Twitter, but I remember something being only available for the US or something like tat)
Yes, it's twitter tips, and it's just available in the US as most of the payment processors with crypto integration that can be linked on twitter for payment (tips) are US based as well.

But I doubt that this feature is only for certain area only, their bitcoin payment is open to enable to all merchants as long they have accounts on the third party used in shopify for crypto payments such coinbase, bitPay and coinpayments, if im correct.

Farewell, Leo
[...]
That. These too-good-to-be true, promising statements should not be taken with held breath as the shops don't always behave same like those people say and if they do, their Bitcoin integration is prohibited outside the United States etc.

I do hope, though, that this huge adoption, as that's how it was represented in the conference, will come to Europe too. I can't look forward to paying a Crispy McBacon over Tor.

Jack Mallers, founder of Zap, is bringing Bitcoin back to its roots with an announcement that his Lightning Network wallet, Strike, has partnered with Shopify, NCR, and Blackhawk Network.

According to Mallers, any website that uses Shopify online card transactions can now process payments using Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. The partnership is live right now and a massive step toward the mass adoption of Bitcoin.

During the presentation, a slide appeared listing some of the biggest retailers in America, including McDonald’s, Walmart, Home Depot, and Best Buy. According to their websites, Blackhawk and NCR also serve Starbucks, Chipotle, El Corte Ingles, Lowe’s, Staples, Woolworths, and thousands of other global retailers.

So according to the article, the bitcoin lightning network can be used to instantly settle payments with close to 0% transaction fees.
I think this is a huge step forward, as the volatility of BTC won't come into play, because the customers don't even have to pay in BTC for it to actually work. Neither user or merchant has to interact with BTC at all, but the merchant would be saving ~3% here than if they had gone with using VISA.

According to his presentation, retailers will be able to receive Bitcoin from customers and instantly convert it to fiat without any fees or processing delays. Whichever currency the retailer wishes to settle their payments in “doesn’t matter,” according to Mallers.

Also, all shopify sites accepting BTC is huge!

Look at the first page of Bitcoin discussion today. So  many companies and people accepting bitcoins, the fact is Bitcoin is becoming important and that is why EU had to step up and include it into the sanctions as well against Russia.

Companies who are not accepting bitcoins yet are already behind the schedule sooner or later we are going to see them jumping on the boat as well, this increases the overall value of Bitcoins definately.

We can see a bit increase in price soon since this is something that is is going to increase the general value. Making it more accessible and usable is something that is going to need the general help of the public. Therefore we all can do our bit there.

Educate others about bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies and try and ask people and shops for any chance of accepting bitcoins since this would open up other possibilities for them.

Mallers strikes me as a bright guy, Bitcoin enthusiast, and one who is contributing a lot to the Bitcoin ecosystem, so to speak. He has played an essential role in El Salvador. But it doesn't seem to excite people on the forum very much. At the time I opened a thread about their app and got almost no responses.

For me personally a very irritating presentation that I spent about 20 minutes on and I felt like I was watching a tennis match considering Jack was moving left and right around the stage all the time like he had worms or something Roll Eyes I didn't know how old he was, but considering the vocabulary he used (f*ck this, f*ck that) he looked to me like some teenager who drank a little more alcohol than he should have.

The technical aspect of the real advantages are not making views, are not getting followers, you need to go full extremist, it was throwing a bunch of bills last day I'm afraid next time you're going to see some burning on the stage followed by gunfire for the "liberation". Fox is cashing the rewards after that fiasco yesterday which some consider was a marvelous speech.

Huge? I don't believe this is any significant news given that a very small percentage of people use Bitcoin as a currency. Most investors buy Bitcoin for completely different reasons than to use it to pay for anything - without or with Mallers innovation, things will not change dramatically.

I'm disappointed in this thing about usage too but, what can someone do about it?

Let's wait and see, I don't believe in an overnight change nor in a year-long one but maybe people realize that it's the same thing, you spend money if you think bitcoin will go up just you fiat, convert it to BTC and spend it this way instead of normal cash. It might be troublesome in some countries but with the possibilities, we have in the EU and North America there are no excuses.

Speaking of Shopify, this is also the company that was hacked and where the data on Ledger hardware wallets customers came from - and let all those who use this service know how good they are at protecting user data.

That's going to be huge! Shopify in fact power the majority of the e-com stores in the world. So such a giant decides to integrate bitcoin LN payment, thousands of stores will be able to finally start accepting bitcoin payments which definitely has the power to push the volume to the next level, as well as the adoption rate.

But the question is that, when! It has not started for sure but do they have a timeline? Also do they have a country based restrictions?

Jack Mallers made an announcement at the Bitcoin Conference 2022 that the giant Shopify will allow payments through the Lightning Network.
Despite not having too much experience with Shopify as a whole, I know for a fact that this isn't the first time that they're supporting such payments [proof- It also comes with an auto-conversion feature].

In regards to other partnership agreements, they just keep getting bigger and better [can't wait to see what's next]...

Do you think Strike will help mass adoption?

Definitely, every time this guy makes an appearance at the Bitcoin Conference he brings an important announcement, one more step for the adoption of bitcoin.

I am sure he will continue to bring us a lot of news like this in the future.

It was great speech! Very good points on how transactions between buyers and merchants haven't really innovated shit in the last 55 years. I look forward seeing this lightning network adoption going forward and I hope we get same shit in Europe too soon.
