Thanks for the suggestions, but I was hoping for a free one.

The first two you can use for free. For PhpStorm you need to buy a license.

Thanks for the suggestions. Zed looks interesting. It looks as if it should work on the chromebook. I'll try that a bit later ( I'm on the HP right now).

It looks as if Zed is going to work on the Chromebook without an internet connection. That's really handy for my baseless computing research.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I was hoping for a free one. I'm only going to use it to customise the apis, rather than using it for development. I've been reading a bit more about jedit, and I've gone off it a little. I found blue fish, and that looks a bit more useful. For example, you can mix html and php in it. Here is the bluefish home page.

For a simple "dumb" editor consider these:

Sublime Text
https://www.sublimetext.com/

Notepad++
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

If you want a full IDE, I would recommend PhpStorm:
https://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/

If you need any other help with PHP, send me a PM.

Note to mods - I'm not sure where to post this, so please move it if this is the wrong board.

I don't do much php programming, and in the past I've used notepad to customise apis. I'm a reseller for an Internet service, and I want to customise the api to incorporate some Bitcoin related features. These are mainly related to signatures rather than payments. I thought it was time for me to use an editor that is a bit more functional than Notepad, and I thought I might try jEdit. Has anyone used it, or can they recommend a better editor?
