I still don't understand why a guy popular like him did pull this stunt.
He's a popular guy and that's exactly why he pulled that stunt. He had the influence during the 2017 hype which he used in a wrong way by pumping altcoins to unsuspecting investors that got FOMOed. He might be pro-cryptocurrency but he wasted his chance.

While I'm just making assumptions, I'm pretty sure it's simply because of drugs and/or money. Tongue McAfee is a pretty hugely known druggie(if you've been following him on Twitter, you'd know), and some people would like that kind of lifestyle.
I haven't followed him just yet in Twitter, until I just recently looked into his Twitter account.
Seems like he's now talking crap around, lol.
Didn't know that Mcafee is a druggie, because I just see him as your usual programmer, not typically a celebrity of any kind, that would just talk crap into front side of Bitcoin.

Knowing that he is going to work for one known guy and former owner of a very well known anti virus company, well that's a big opportunity for him that he cannot reject.

@OP things and attitude changes when it comes to huge amount of money or when you are going older. He didn't care anymore about his reputation.

He became a millionaire catching viruses, now he is one of them and has always been on the list of dangerous bugs, in the vaults of alerts, but if you ignore an "intelligent analysis," you end up infected.

It is a rare species of virus that always reconfigures itself to escape, even a dead person has on him, in short, a whole character from the beginnings of the Internet and he managed to appear in the crypto world.

Drugs or not we already know that the earned a ton of money during 2017 by helping scams rip people off. We already know for a fact that he was getting paid by ICO scammers to advertise their scam by using his "popularity". We also have some evidence that suggested he participated in multiple pump and dumps of different shitcoins again by first hyping them up to pump them then dumping his stash on the newbies who bought into the hype.

The dude's genius is wasted by his ego and drugs. He was a good advocate for crypto before 2017 and it all went downhill from there.

John McAfee as a businessman has already sold his company a couple of decades ago and then the cryptocurrency market gave him a second leash to become mainstream and the attention he was looking for and a way to make money and he took advantage of the situation and scammed a lot of people by promoting scam projects and vouching for them and since had a tech background people would trust his words and he exploited that to his advantage.

The dude's genius is wasted by his ego and drugs. He was a good advocate for crypto before 2017 and it all went downhill from there. The good thing is, people no longer listens to his bullshit advices and trade tips anymore, as he was exposed to committing fraud and doing pumps and dumps in exchange of a small sum. It was a good stint when he was still level-headed and actually contributing something in the community, but right now? Meh.

John McAfee has been involved in multiple crypto scams, he is a genius who loves to fuck the system. And maybe he has a problem with drugs or prostitutes but he knows how to enjoy life. I just read about his current situation, and right now he is in Cuba, playing his political cards, and is fun because looks like he loves to live in places where prostitution is common.

About the scams, more than 90% of ICOs were scams, so, what's the surprise here? John see how the bad guys was making millions and he decides to join to the party.

We don't know the whole scheme if this was really just some stunts by McAfee or the truth but all we just have to speculate over it and let the court handles it. His views on some promotions in the late 2017 was lit but surely the guy fades with his magic tweets but we all know how he really operates may it offline or online.

You are not making any sense. You are contradicting yourself. You first said "we don't know the whole scheme" and then ended up saying "we all know how he really operates." So which is which?
He is actually saying that the scheme behind John McAfee's bodyguard fraudulent attack may not be known, but normally he already knows how John McAfee operate in his own way of scamming people. After all, I would think the instructions to the bodyguard may come from McAfee from cell in Spain, I wouldn't trust any of them.

While people will say that it is most likely because of the drugs he takes I doubt that it is the main reason why he is doing that, I highly doubt that an addict will be smart enough to pull off the scams he made from knowingly influencing the market to his pump and dump schemes to even defrauding his own investors such acts is something an addict wouldn't really do. Maybe McAfee is one of those kinds of guys who simply have his screws loosen and became out of his mind or simply he just likes the joy of the power he has and abuse it he isn't even ashamed on admitting it.

John McAfee is nothing but an old man trying to live the remainder of his life according to his own rules and nothing else. Unfortunately, the world has laws and he is not exempted from them. It is either he violates the law and run or hide or be arrested and face punishment. It's sad he ended up inside a cell.

Maybe the money will be the reason for him to work under McAfee. If the money being offered to him is big, that can make someone attract and temp to accept to work with him. But we do not know what his reason is to do that thing. I am sure there is more reason for him to accept that job which we do not know. Or he does not know what reputation of McAfee in the crypto, so he accepts that job.

He was popular because of his scammy activities in crypto.

People will never forget him as he was the father of pump and dump way back 2017.
Remember the "coin of the day"< lol... that was all scam and he is like the Elon of the current situation, sorry....

i still don"t get why a former navy seal would agree to work under someone like John
It's called "power of the Benjamins", that's where money influence becomes overwhelming over principle. I bet McAfee's offer was irresistible for the Navy seal.

i lost what little respect i have left for John since the Ghost stunt, the guy is a bad news  Grin
I also got caught up in the GHOST stunt, though I got mine through airdrop for hodling ESH. John McAfee's public declaration of the unseriousness of the GHOST admin and what he perceived as Josh's lackadaisical attitude with ESH crashed the two projects. Till date both projects have not recovered from that crash. Later words got out of several cash McAfee collected just to shill GHOST. He really wasn't a part of it for the good of it. He was just there because he got paid upfront to shill it. I hope he gets punished for his numerous crimes against the development of the cryptocurrency industry.

Perhaps the offer was really that good that the guy can't refuse it. Imagine working with one such personalities like John, it's a shade from what he is doing before as a Navy Seal. Maybe he thinks it's an easy job, easy money. As for John, good riddance, such a waste, he will be forgotten here in crypto space, with all the shilling he does in the past. I do hope that this will be the last thread we are going to see McAfee as the subject.

He was borderline genius, however with too much drugs into his system which makes him a loose cannon. Now that he is indicted on fraud and money laundering, I don't think we will hear about him in the near future. He is already irrelevant in the field of crypto anyways, he was once a "crypto influencer", but we all know that he charge money to shill for some altcoins specially at the end of 2017 to early 2018.

I still don't understand why a guy popular like him did pull this stunt. As he was well-known before going into crypto. His guard wasn't involved in the matter or so it says in the news at least.

Leading a bad life, with drug use, etc. I am not surprised. What I am glad about is that he is no longer in the forefront of the Bitcoin scene and has been replaced by Saylor, Tudor Jones and others.
