I fix broken miners. And make holes in teeth :-)
Hello. I just picked up one of these: http://coinsfortech.com/shop/coincraft-1ths-28nm-asic-bitcoin-miner-with-power-supply

It works very well right out of the box at the speed promised and I am already getting coins out of my pool after only 30 minutes.

However it is LOUD! It is like having a hair dryer running.

It is in my apartment and it is just unacceptable how loud it is. Does anyone have some advice on how I can solver this problem? Some sort of some proof cabinet or perhaps a quieter cooling system?

About 6 months ago i had 15 BFL singles all running in a spare room.
The noise was unbearable. I really do think that the sound was messing with my brainwaves lol.
I cant even concentrate around miners i am sure they fuck with your mind somehow.
I had mine in a dedicated room with extra cooling and the doors shut but could still hear throughout the entire house.
I have nine running in my bedroom and more running in the other room. The trick is this: What causes noise with air fans is the blades stalling. Try slowing the blades down a bit with an in-line resistor, remove all the crap that is blocking airflow (grills, etc) and move the maximum volume of air, not the max speed.

Try pulling air through heat sinks, more efficient than pushing.

Try switching to water cooling if possible; I run an 8 chip jalapeno which runs at 30c with a Corsair H100 water block on the back of the board and the stock heat sink on the front. Yes, it's that simple. :-)

It looks like I can collocate it in a data center in my city for not too much. It should pay for its months rent there in just a couple days of each month.

At the rate it is earning I should break even in about 11 weeks even after paying the data center.

It was only 8.4 bitcoins, not 10 and I have 1/4 bitcoin back already after just a couple of days.

How did you calculate that?

The estimate earning in the whole April for 1 Th is 2 BTC. How did you made 2 BTC in a "couple" of days in March? How did you get the 11 weeks ROI?

From cex.io for 1Th at 50% increase/month:

                                  BTC
Apr-14   7510       373   2.02
May-14   11265   560   1.34
Jun-14   16898   840   0.90
Jul-14   25347   1260   0.60
Aug-14   38021   1890   0.40
Sep-14   57031   2835   0.27

At 25% diff increase you should ROI by September. But at 50%...winter is coming.

Sorry, not for $5000 or 10 BTC it isn't, dude.  No chance to ROI in fiat or coins.

$3000-$3500 maybe.  There are many other places around in this forum (Group Buys section?) you can get it sub $4000 at least.

This isn't sub $4000, but it's definitely not $5000:

http://minersource.net/collections/frontpage/products/1-ths-28nm-miner

Either that or get in line for an Antminer S2.

You guys gotta do your homework....

I didn't say it was profitable or not, I just said, if you want  1th/s mining power *now*, there's not many options. There's clearly a couple, but not many.
YOu do need to do your homework though, I agree with that.  There's still people pre-ordering BFL's Monarch, which they probably won't see for 9 months. They see a pretty website and think it's gotta be an OK company...well, I dunno what they think really

See here for $3k miner.  Use escrow of course:

5,000 bucks? DAMN.

There's not many options if you want a miner today. Where else can you get 1Th/s in stock ready to ship? THe pre-order game doesn't seem to be panning out for many, the numbers look great, but your months away from getting anything, even then it's only a possibility, alot of those companies are playing games, overstating their expected ship dates, or just downright scams. Having something ready to go right now is, well, worth it to many .

Update.

This group buy is for the same miner at around $3,000.  As always proceed with caution and always use escrow:

You could consider putting it in a datacenter, but it probably wouldn't be cost effective with that weird form factor.

Just a question which is not related to the noise: What hash rate do you get on different pools with this machine? Are you limited to BTCguild?

This is why we advice people to just buy the coins! You'll have to put up with the heat and noise for 6 months just to get your investment back. Is it worth it? For most people, no!

As for pools, BitMinter also works fine with my A1 chip based boards. You need a pool that supports 0 Diff (auto) or large Diff 512-1024.

To get the noise/heat down you'll need to underclock to about 800GH and change the fans for quieter ones. (The 4 board 32 chips version is working 20% harder!)

If you were expecting a miner to sound like a computer in terms of loudness, then... welcome to the reality of mining.  I bet it pumps out a lot of heat too huh?  You will have to deal with the noise and find a way to vent the heat.  Welcome to bitcoin mining.

It's all about the fans... I don't have any of those miners in particular, but if there are 120mm fans, you can replace them with a Noctua NF-S12A ULN.  They move 43 cubic feet of air per minute at only 8.6 dBA.

Open the case and look at the technical specification of the fans installed, find the CFM and dBA rating on the fans (google the part number or model number). Next, find a fan with similar CFM and less dba.  Then you can replace your fans with quieter ones.

New 1T miner avalon3 and 1T A1 miner is no loud . quite working.  Maybe the one you got  is old avalon2 200G. and some factory use 5pcs in a case to make it 1T.

no way... fan requirement at that level will always sound massive. I don't know the specs, but I'm sure there are no Noiseblocker or Noctua fans like on gamer PC's... Nor would I see anyone doing aftermarket silent fan for industrial use, which is the case here.
