Total cost was just over 1k. Not bad by my calculations this puppy will get 750 sol/s on zcash, netting 140 a month. Just over 3 month roi seems quite solid
So, in the US, 1000/140 = 3?

Lol yea i got the numbers wrong. Just checked the profit calculator again its actually ~170 a month for a little over 5 month roi lol.

Congrats I guess.  I think this was a terrible option but good luck, I hope it works out.  I guess there wasn't much to lose and maybe this can act as a proof of concept and self tutorial before wading in deep with $10k+ rigs.

What psu did you get?  Prob doesn't matter much with such a small rig but I'm curious.

Are you physically up and running yet?
I would have built a better rig but everyone got all the good gpus first. Fuck buying $1200 1080 tis. and the psu is an evga 750w G2. and no, i just ordered the parts last night its not up and running

I went pretty low budget on this, all from ebay. I decided to go with GTX 1050 2GB gpus because they seem to have the best price to performance. I grabbed the cheapest 5 on ebay at the time from 130-150 a pop, a biostar 6 gpu mining motherboard, celeron g3930, a 4gb stick of ddr4, 60gb ssd, and a 750w evga psu. Total cost was just over 1k. Not bad by my calculations this puppy will get 750 sol/s on zcash, netting 140 a month. Just over 3 month roi seems quite solid, then its pure profit. and this is on top of the fact that im now mining my 1080 in my gaming rig whenever im not gaming and my 1060 in my laptop as well when its not in use.
With the current prices I guess 1050 2gb is not a bad choice , Your other option was to wait for the prices to get back to normal . So I guess getting this card might be good start at the moment . I strongly advice to not mine on your laptop . Finally good luck with your cards and happy earnings  Wink .

Normally i wouldnt mine on the laptop for that reason. My last gaming laptop i had got really hot. However this one has surprisingly good cooling, even with a high overclock on the gtx 1060 inside, it doesnt go above 70c so i think im good.

Congrats man, but I would hold off on the laptop, mining with your gtx 1080 probably won't do a thing to it nor cause any performance degradation if it's cooled off nice, but the one in the laptop is probably not cooled right and it isn't worth it to spoil it!

If he undervolts, then it is possible.
