Necro just because i wanted to know wether the HIS model OP unlocked is the H695QN1G2M, how is it doing so far?

Model H695QN1G2M (The HIS 1GB 6950)

I actually thought I 're-locked' them so to speak, after I experienced some instability, but a quick look at my bios shows that they have been unlocked the whole time.

As long as you BIOS mod, instead of use a 6970 BIOS you should be good. My card has been kicking since and I really like the little bit of added performance in games and mining.

Wow.you can still unlock the shaders o a newer HD6950? That's good to know. I myself unlocked an HD6950 which was purchased last June (end of really). I got an extra 30MHash/s overnight and that was a lowish clock as well (840MHz core clock),then I really cracnked up the OC'ing and now I have a card that does ~402MHash/s. Smiley

If I push the card, with the unlocked shaders, I can hit 400MHash/s relatively easily. Using the old method, the card's memory would likely have fried.

Thanks for the necro Cheesy

It works usually as long as the shaders arent laser cut. Which a lot of the newer ones are.

Purchase date of the card was 12-30-11 if that is any help. I feel kinda useless in explaining

I have a PowerColor 2gb Non-Reference 6950.  ~320MHash w/o unlocked shaders, ~360MHash w/unlock shaders, ~400MHash w/unlocked shaders and +20% powertune  **Clock: 910, Mem: 900**

Nice to see you were able to unlock them.  Now OC that thing and if you're using linux, dial up the powertune.

Well, for a long time, the BIOS on the 6950 became unflashable. Mining with the (almost) 6970 allows for a better hash rate. Sorry if the post was a bit unnecessary, but I was quite excite with this.

Hey all, to much excite, I just 'un-castrated' my 6950. If you haven't heard, it is still possible on new cards.

I just wanted you all to know that it is possible to unlock the shaders. The shader clocks are still locked (As of now).

You need RBE and WinFlash. Using Winflash, acquire your 6950's bios. In RBE, edit it to unlock the shaders, and re download.

I've seen about a 20 mh/s increase, and may get more.

Is this a 2 GB model?

No, HIS IceQ 1GB, but as far as I can tell, it works with all reference design 6950's.
