So what has then been the stress of china about cryptocurrency when most of the applications that are very popular to their citizens are all having some relationship with cryptocurrency, this social media application is one of the largest crypto in the Asian country and they would really make cryptocurrency popular also, I don’t know if it has been released yet because this post is more than 3 months now, and I expect that china should have think of how they are going to support some of these project because once libra coin comes to the market, many of these platforms will really not be heard, so better they make their voice heard today and be fast about whatever they are creating than wait for libra coin to take over completely.

This is basically same as the libra currency facebook is trying to make right? Like they are after helping people move libra from whatsapp that will make sure everyone sends each other money easily via just messages from whatsapp, which would make transactions globally a whole different leave of ease. Kakaotalk has done something like that already and I never heard about it which makes you question, how big is facebook?

Like we know its bigger than kakaotalk for sure but how bigger exactly? I have never heard of kakaotalk and we all heard of facebook so we know its huge but will the difference be enough to say "nobody knows what libra is and only few crypto nuts use it" or "everyone realized libra is amazing and now worldwide everyone uses that to send each other money". If this is any indicator I would say listing your ICO on an exchange has always caused the price to drop at first, maybe they should have created a stablecoin like libra.

Must be what facebook had in mind too to make use of Libra thru their apps. Facebook is so big that the whole world can fit into it. Only those Chinese aren't there but they already have Kakaotalk which is now in the exchange.  Kakaotalk is very popular to the Chinese and to some countries in Asia. Its how we can make transactions across platforms that will matter when Libra will be launched.

South Korea’s Kakao May List Its Klay Token on Chinese Exchange

https://cointelegraph.com/news/south-koreas-kakao-may-list-its-klay-token-on-chinese-exchange

South Korean internet giant Kakao is reportedly planning to list its cryptocurrency Klay on a Chinese crypto exchange and one local exchange.
The key companies that are associated with the internet services have the ability to make big changes in the market. Upon this I believe Kakao will make big change through its application as well as its native token. More companies have begun to develop applications as default. Recently Samsung too gave erc20 wallet as default with a premium mobile. That too caused some market changes.

Well, this is not a bad idea to integrate the ccrypto wallet on the application of Kakaotalk. Because for me, i see this as an another good achievements and.moving forward of the crypto currencies that would bring another impact to the community.

Whether KakaoTalk is one of the most popular messaging application or not, I don't see anything wrong with integrating their own crypto wallet into their application. Maybe they just want their app to have another purpose other than that of communucation means. Assuming their users are into crypto, then they don't have to look for a different wallet anymore. A single application with multi-purpose isn't that bad, right? And besides, they are still discussing about it so let's just wait for their decision.

One of the most popular messaging/chat application today, KakaoTalk, is reported to be in deliberation for possible integration of a crypto wallet.

Kakaotalk is a very Korean phenomenon. I think they can do fiat payments over there using it, not sure. To me it looks bloated, very bloated. Of course Korea has the latest gen smartphones so they don't even notice, but try it with a bit older model and you immediately notice (if the app even installs in your older Android). I don't think there is a kakaotalk lite variant is there?

Japan has Line, China has Wechat (whatever happened to qq), Russia has Telegram (ironically hated by Putin's gov), America has Whatsapp (which sucks the most) and now FB, but thats pulling a group into IM which is redundant since Whatsapp, FB and Instagram are belong to Zuckerberg...

Signal is a "fixed" Whatsapp, but people ignore it. There are private oriented IM like Riot.im (which uses Matrix) and the clients using the tox protocol.

It seems that, as in the early days of IM, we are going to have to use several of them. It all started with Israel's ICQ (yes i know there was talk before), then came others such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, etc. An open protocol called XMPP (Jabber) came along and some people use it, most notably Google at first before dumping it for whatever hangouts is.

So how many IM people are supposed to install to communicate with friends? And now each and everyone wants their own coin/token... I'm not opposed to wallet integration into IM, but they should be separate. If Telegram wants an ico, make a separate wallet for it. If both are installed they could integrate, but let people decide if they want both or one. Perhaps they are trying to use their platform as a kind of "free" massive ICO advertising?

Discord was meant as a gamers IM platform, perhaps like the one bundled with Steam (Friends?). Hmm maybe there is MLP reference in there, probably just my imagination...

IRC is good enough. Now get off my lawn! Smiley

There is wechat who have already made their own token although not a crypto currency.

Why all of a sudden this applications are making their own?
There is telegram too who want to make it happen. I dont know about discord though. But I bet they will also push it through.

Kakaotalk is not so popular for me. I will rather pick telegram and discord than it.
I hope it helps make crypro currencies market better.

Kakaotalk is a popular messaging slash call app before . maybe you are not only aware with that or maybe it is not available on your country because on our country , kakaotalk has been advertise anywhere before  .

im not a fan of this app because there are more better alternatives out there in my opinion  .  im waiting for the fb coin , and the ones that you mention above (  discord and telegram coins )  but all of this idea are great to help the adoption grow more bigger  . kudos to devs

I hope that this innovation will help increase the community's trust in bitcoin and crypto currencies, if all this time investors are still awkward to invest in crypto currencies, hopefully with this innovation from Kakaotalk it can show that crypto currencies are safe and potentially profitable for investors. In addition to this, with the crypto currency wallet on the kakaotalk application we will be easier to transact without any distance and time restrictions. Smiley

Not sure I would call them "one of the most popular". It has less than 50 million active monthly users, compared to WhatsApp's 1.5 billion, Facebook Messenger's 1.3 billion and iMessage's 1 billion.
It once become a global hit back on its prime days, I think 5 to 8 years ago. I still remembered that my classmates back in highschool oftenly use this app (along with Simsimi) because of its cute stickers which is very unique that time. But when Messenger upgraded and improve its aesthetic features, its fame suddenly faded away.

Anyway, I know that this is another good news again for us because crypto adoption is crypto adoption, it is significant no matter how small its is. I just wonder why? Why Kakaotalk is planning to have its own crypto wallet? I don't get it to be honest. What is the strong relation between messaging and financing? Hmm Huh.

If so, then that's a big advantage for the development and adoption of cryptocurrency in Korea since most Kakaotalk users are Koreans. There are Koreans who want to get involved in cryptocurrency and I guess it's a good start for them. I wish that there would be a cryptocurrency wallet in every app.

I think every app should have it's own cryptocurrency, actually it is good to make the company survive. The more people use the app then the more possibility that those people also interested in it's cryptocurrency. Maybe kakao talk just don't want to lose from facebook which has the same plan. I think cryptocurrency also can solve problem of money transfer fees that charged in those apps transactions related with advertiser.

Still, it's nice to see they seem to be thinking of integrating a bitcoin or multi-coin wallet, as opposed to launching their own centralized scam coin like Facebook and many other large companies are planning.

KakaoTalk is very popular among the Korean diaspora. And don't forget that there are around 2.5 million of them in the US itself (1% of the population). But I am quite worried about the legality of this step within South Korea. The South Korean government has made so many u-turns with their approach with BTC. And this has resulted in huge losses to those who invested in various crypto-currency. The legal terms regarding crypto usage are still vague in South Korea.
based kakaotalk user in around the world , this integration will bring impact to cryptocurrency it self.cryptocurrency demand will rise significantly after its officially release.and about government, south korea be the countries that care about crypto developtment.
Isnt already been approved/applied?

I cant see for a reason that it will give big impact on crypto market considering that users of Kakaotalk isn't really that big of a number but still a good thing on seeing the adoption which do integrates
crypto into traditional chat apps.

Well we are using facebook messenger. BTW I am not famiiar with kakaotalk but if it means that it is another good news for cryptocurrency then I am 100% support to it especially that now bitcoin market has slowly taking its recovery.

Who.knows that there could be more integration in the near future using blockchain technology.Block chain has a bright future over integration to even centralized system.

and about government, south korea be the countries that care about crypto developtment.

Huh

The South Korean government doesn't care about crypto development. They only care about getting bribes from the crypto-users. What they did is unethical. First, they implemented a very relaxed regulatory regime on crypto. A lot of crypto-based companies moved to South Korea. Then they suddenly made an u-turn and adopted some very hostile measures.

Guys don't get so excited, before posting just read article, as it seems they have only discussion around it, they don't know whether cryprocurrency will be added or not.
But since whatsapp plans to add crypto, I think Kakaotalk will follow then too, just don't want to get rumors in attention.
Btw in any way it's good, you can quickly send coins to your friends but this has some cons, maybe they'll explode your brain by requesting some money.
That's right until they are not completely announced it we should not be too much excited, it's bring some good publicity though as the company have
good and well established business, so taking their part inside crypto industry gathered attentions from the public.

For sure, even if it is in the discussion stage, they will follow this crypto boost in social media. Though their followers is not as much as fb or twitter, still this will create mass adoption on this side of the world. They will be familiar on handling cryptocurrency and will see the benefit of it. So much with the negative connotations of crypto, time to see the power of crypto in their daily lives.

I don't know about that though. It's a platform that i wouldn't trust my crypto coins with. How secure would that be? The people behind kakao of course would have a way to access your accounts. It may sound exciting for kakao users who are into cryptocurrencies but i'd rather stay with traditional hard wallets.

when you use a wallet or an exchange you are also entrusting your funds to someone else . if you trust them then why would you dont trust kakaotalk with your coins ?  Kakaotalk is already known to be legit so there is no need to worry about your security  . it isnt also a wallet but i believe that the coins will only be used to buy in app items like stickers and call plans  .  i dont also think that kakaotalk users will feel excited with it since most of them are not an existing crypto users  .

Well, it's possible that they can sell our information, but we have the authority to take care of them in case they will break the law.
Unfortunately, Facebook very much see themselves as above the law. The recent Cambridge Analytica scandal proves this. Facebook were complicit in millions of users' personal data being mined and used without their consent by unknown third parties. In response Zuckerberg made some half hearted apology to Congress, and they received fines so small as to be meaningless. They can and will do anything they like with your data, as long as the price is right.

But in general point of view, they will eventually become part of the market even if they are centralized, so this is good as we will increase in volume.
I wouldn't consider it good, just as I don't consider all the trash altcoins flooding the market with zero use cases and exit scams to be good.

We of course hope for bigger, like Facebook as it has a huge number of users, majority of online users are using facebook
Facebook is the antithesis of bitcoin. Facebook exists only to invade your privacy, harvest your data, and sell your information. They exist purely for profit, and anything and everything they do is a byproduct of their desire for more data mining and more profit.

Well, it's possible that they can sell our information, but we have the authority to take care of them in case they will break the law.
Prior to sign up, we are agreed on their terms, so that means we trusted them our information, and it's only part of the risk if they will sell our data.
Just like when we deal with bank, we give our data and we entrusted them, but nothing really beats the decentralized system as it's not human, it's pure algorithm, and therefore no emotion and no greed like human have.

There are plenty of news articles doing the rounds at the moment about Facebook designing and launching their own "crypto". In reality, it's not a crypto at all - it is a completely centralized payment processor, which they will maintain full control over. Facebook have no interest in giving any amount of control to their users. They will never adopt bitcoin.

Could be true, and people will have a choice whether they will adopt wit this or not.
But in general point of view, they will eventually become part of the market even if they are centralized, so this is good as we will increase in volume.

I don't subscribe to fact that kakao is one of the most used chatting application, this messaging app has 80% of it users based in Asia with the remaining 20% from other countries who understands some part of asian languages. Although this is a great steps from kakao developers but I believe cryotocurrency is meant to be for everyone but limiting it to one part due to language barriers is not so good.

It is still unclear how everything gonna work. Large companies are less likely to issue a cryptocurrency with a free price.
The other thing is that they may use their own blockchain without a chance to use their currency outside their messenger. Then it will cause no influence on the rest of crypto cimmunity.

This is too normal. Some electronic applications always need quick payments without the need for credit cards.
I really enjoyed this. Sometimes I want to use an app service but I have to provide a Visa or MasterCard. But I'm too small to get those cards.

Kakaotalk maybe is the South Korean's biggest messaging application but I dont think it is one of the most popular app worldwide. As what I heard, they are going to have their own Blockchain network called Klatyn. I'm not really sure if it will be a success project but I think it will be more hype if the app that is going to integrate crypto wallet is Whatsapp which is the number one used messaging app all around the world.
hopefully all digital messaging applications can be integrated with crypto immediately. if we can easily use applications that can support crypto trading, the future of digital money can spread very quickly throughout the country.
right, of course this will trigger other applications so as not to miss. of course we have a good impact with this news, with more and more people who understand bitcoin, increasing demand

I think Kakaotalk focuses only in some countries that's why they can't be matched with some other large messaging apps.
Well, these geographically oriented platforms are quite important for adoption considering that competitors like whatsapp aren't allowed to operate everywhere. This is how you reach every spot of the world.

I think that with time, even the Chinese government will have to admit that they can't stop Bitcoin and open up more instead of trying to shut down and ban everything. People think China is out of crypto, but they aren't.

It wouldn't even surprise me if China is still leading in terms of being the country with the most crypto related users. It's not for nothing that weird Asian exchanges became so popular. Chinese traders use them.
True, they have their own territory to spread the adoption and it's really good to see that Kakaotalk is doing it. They can have their own reason for doing this such as riding the popularity of crypto's or it's just they really see the future of it.

China isn't really out of crypto, I've seen some videos on how some people shows on how you can avail goods there with bitcoin. They probably just want to lowkey themselves while the market is on this phase. The question that runs on my mind, what will be the next big messaging app to have an announcement like this?

As the article says, nothing has been decided yet, this is just an idea. There is a lot of time between the idea and the launch. And we are not immune to seeing a company coin which will have maybe nothing cryptographic, just a random token. If the company isn't dealing with the existing cryptos (BTC, ETH,etc) and prefer to create its own then there is nothing usefull in term of "adoption".

KakaoTalk user here. Though not confirmed yet, taking it into consideration is already a good news imo. As other members said, KakaoTalk is not as popular and widely use compared to other messaging apps, but hey 44 million local users is a huge number.

We won't know, other apps might take it into consideration too after hearing the news or right after it has been integrated by KakaoTalk (if ever it happens).

First is telegram and now KakaoTalk? It's very unusual when a communication company enters the business of cryptocurrency. Some of the analyst seen a progressive income when having learnings in cryptocurrency.

All of the social media platforms are taking a step towards advanced technology, they have stocks and now a cryptocurrency. Even mobile company like Samsung that allows their device for a hardware wallet.

Every news like this for the benefit of crypto should be taken in a positive way. KakaoTalk might have less users as compare to other messaging apps, but integrating crypto wallet is like a good marketing ploy for their services. Because we all know the more and more people are engaging in crypto and them adding a wallet will surely bring interest on their apps again, specially around the South East nations. So still a very welcoming news for everyone.

im sure that almost all of us do already heard of kakaotalk because this messaging app/platform is being advertise before on local t.v's  and maybe around the net like on social media platforms such as on facebook and youtube and its actually quite popular before but it didnt last a long time because other messaging apps are being created every single day and people also loves to try other new stuff's   .

i believe this idea of kakaotalk partnering with crypto can again bring its fame and other popular apps that dont currently support crypto are now going to be left behind  .

KakaoTalk still discussing to integrate a cryptocurrency wallet functions to KakaoTalk, but nothing is confirmed yet.

I read at

“It’s true that we are [internally] discussing whether we will add cryptocurrency wallet functions to KakaoTalk, but nothing is confirmed yet.”

So, it still needs time before the user of KakaoTalk can use cryptocurrency in those apps. It will be a long time before they can get one vote to integrate with cryptocurrency. But this is good news for cryptocurrency user because it will help crypto to spread up in the KakaoTalk user. So, let's wait for the next information from them.
From the quote it is clear about the integration of the wallet hasn't taken place yet. I believe this beginning of integrating wallets to the apps existed once after Samsung's entry through recent launch of S10 series having access to store five different cryptocurrencies and it is inbuilt. Few of which are the top crypto's. Can expect more applications integrating cryptocurrency wallets.

It's not yet confirmed by the company itself but it shouldn't be surprising. East Asia tends to be more open to online payments, the Chinese already do a lot of transactions through Wechat for example.

Add to that South Korea's less strict policies towards crypto and you get a cryptowallet in Kakao. Hopefully this is true. So far Kakao is still popular in SEA. Not as much as FBM but if it offers a wallet and payment options, crypto enthusiasts might try it out.

I don't think that kakaotalk is not as popular as you said. However, it is good news related to cryptocurrency world. It seems many big companies especially on social network field are racing for adopting cryptocurrency to their platform.

There has been a lot of news like this before but what I remember is that no news like this has been realized to be applied in the various applications mentioned.

I'm not sure about this as the messaging app has less than 60M concurrent users every month, and only a limited part of the Southeast Asian region really utilizes the said app (popular in Singapore, Malaysia and SoKor, if I'm not mistaken) for everyday use. Integrating a crypto wallet into something that people uses everyday is a great start, no matter how few or how many the users are. They will get curious and it will spark their interests even further, causing a surge in searches for the term and possibly, surge in investors. A good move, I'd say, though I don't think the change or effect would be substantial/

I am not so sure that it will be good or popular, but if they do more and better promotions there will be good progress, given that I know that Kakaotalk is not too popular now with not too many users, but I still appreciate what they make it in the future, hopefully it can reach its maximum point with genuine development, I will always listen.

In the past few months, I did notice that most korean cryptocurrency giveaways requires kakaotalk so maybe they finally decided to work on cryptocurrency since they are already an established messaging app and might need to integrate their own cryptocurrency within it's network. I am from the Philippines and I have never used Kakaotalk as we use messenger from facebook so I don't have the whole picture how kakaotalk works.

Kakaotalk is the most used messaging platform during my old days of online gaming. But now, the most used are Discord, Telegram and FB Messenger. Well then, looks like they are still the most used on other genres as what we can see on their user stats.

Back to crypto thing, honestly it was a great move. It just shows that many companies at different industry is recognizing crypto more. If ever implemented, surely other competitors will think of implementing it too. It will also contribute to the crypto awareness.

Let's not be negative here and just wait for the output.

It is nice to see that a big company in South Korea its major step and integrating cryptocurrency in their messaging app. I think they are trying to compete with the Facebook messenger.

South Korea together with Japan has been leading the way for crypto specially in the Asian region so I'm not surprised by the news. I'd say Kakao is mostly popular in Asia only so this is a big step for them to integrate crypto (if the news is true) and probably wanted to complete on the global scale since crypto is slowly gaining some grounds this year. Just recently, Samsung integrate a built in wallet for crypto, so definitely, there a lot of thing going on in crypto sphere and Kakao seized this opportunity to maybe became competitive with other message apps out there.

I understand where you are coming from but South Korean people is one of the most active nation in Asia in using cryptocurrencies, with that being said I think it's a good move for Kakaotalk to continue their idea.

Whatsapp is indeed a well known messaging app in the world with billion of users but it started small also just before just like Kakaotalk, who knows maybe Kakaotalk would be the next big thing if they implement the integration of cryptocurrency wallet on their platform.

I think Kakaotalk focuses only in some countries that's why they can't be matched with some other large messaging apps. However with this kind of news or rumors as said, we can't still say that they will integrate a wallet soon.

If there's other reliable news that can be put on the table verifying this it would be great. But if this is ever true, it's still large adoption coming because the number of users they have is still large enough to gain demand.

Not sure I would call them "one of the most popular". It has less than 50 million active monthly users, compared to WhatsApp's 1.5 billion, Facebook Messenger's 1.3 billion and iMessage's 1 billion. It's certainly big in South Korea and Southeast Asia, but it has a very limited global presence.

Still, it's nice to see they seem to be thinking of integrating a bitcoin or multi-coin wallet, as opposed to launching their own centralized scam coin like Facebook and many other large companies are planning.
In terms of users kakaoTalk stands behind the popular whatsapp, Facebook and other social networking applications. At the same time it is the one that's been making an advancement integrating a crypto wallet to the application. This could help them out in reaching out of South Korea which is its major market right now.
