Now we know why Kazakhstan called Bitcoin a ponzi scheme on the 5th of February, because on the 11th of February they devalued their currency by 20%

Quote
the Kazakhstan central bank has devalued the currency (Tenge) by 19% - its largest adjustment since 2009. At 185 KZT to the USD, this is the weakest the currency has ever been as the central bank cites weakness in the Russian Ruble and "speculation" against its currency as drivers of the outflows

Today I'm reading that the tanks are rolling in..

Quote
tanks and Humvees are lining the streets around Almaty as stores are closed and food is running desperately short

It seems like the countries where Bitcoin might be needed the most would also be more likely to try to make it illegal for similar reasons?

This is the land of wolves now & you're not a wolf
Kazakhstan's a miserable country. Excluding everything from Borat, I've read a lot of first hand accounts of westerners going there for work (professional hockey players, etc.) and it just seems like such a horrible place anyways.

I'm sure there are plenty of people there who are embracing BTC, though.

The next big thing in boxing is from Kazahkstan...Gennady GGG Golovkin.  The guy is a killer, and will be middleweight king by this time next year for sure.

I guess it's easier when you get to train with killer dogs in the middle of the street!

lol!   If you like boxing, check him out.   He is the next big thing for sure.   Won his last 16 fights by knockout.   I think highest knockout percentage of any champion in history (if I am not mistaken).

Nevertheless, the continued trend of countries taking these stances isn't exactly the best for bit coin.

It'll still survive, but still has a ways to go to overcome these kind of statements.

Kazakhstan (country in Asia) calling Bitcoin Ponzi Scheme!

http://www.coindesk.com/kazakhstans-central-bank-ban-bitcoin-protect-bankers/

Estonia (country in Europe)

What do you think?

China ban has made bitcoin lose in value. Should we be concerned?

China hasn't banned bitcoin...just limited who can participate in the business.   Also, if China were to outright ban bitcoin, that would have a far greater impact than Estonia and Kazakhstan who probably have less bitcoins circulating there than a single person holds in China.

Look at what else those countries ban...

The State of China's position on an internet company or technology doesn't seem to be a good mesure of its value in 2014 : Google, Facebook..

haha yes ^^

Actually those scenes were filmed in a Romanian village (who subsequently sued the film-makers for making the village look bad)  Cheesy

I'm not too worried about the recent announcements from different countries, they all seem to be similar in tone - not banning Bitcoin or anything, but in essence just saying "Be careful, If you lose money on this then we ain't gonna help you out. However if you make money you can count on us trying to tax you for it..."

all good in the hood so far I think...
