Hello,

I have a programming background, but I'm relatively new to crypto/stocks. What would be some key metrics/performance indicated to calculate a coins growth potential for the future? I may build a web app w/ API's to do some calculations.

Thanks in Advance.

You might find Chris Burniske's medium post on CryptoAsset Valuation helpful.
Link - https://medium.com/@cburniske/cryptoasset-valuations-ac83479ffca7

https://multicoin.capital/ also has a few posts on crypto asset valuation. For example - https://multicoin.capital/2017/12/14/0x-zrx-analysis-valuation/

Thanks for the share, I will dive deeper into this. Cheers,

Hi! Welcome to the forum and to the crypto world as well.
What would be some key metrics/performance indicated to calculate a coins growth potential for the future?
There's no specific key metrics to calculate the grow of any coin in the future. By doing this assumption you will most likely fall into speculations, most of those statements that are published are base on how those experts predicted the growth of bitcoin and it's like an intelligent guess.
I may build a web app w/ API's to do some calculations.
Just like btnt8888 said you can use its market cap, total supply and add also your analysis.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, I started to build something and wrote a little script that calculates my own formula on what coins may be undervalued...but again this is with limited knowledge on the cryptosphere. I would love to see what kind of considerations go into analysis for professionals. If it's the social activity you could pull that data, if its github commits, you could pull that data as well.

I would only use this for analysis to then look deeper into the projects on usage case basis.

Actually social metrics and mentions is a good place to start. You can also include exchange data such as the trade volume and activity, not just the marketcap.

Well, for a starter, it can be:

- Supply
- use-case
- team background
- duration since ICO
- exchanges listed and rumoured to be listed

These should come handy to decide about a coin, although, there are dozens of other metrics...

There are so many analysis you can find at social media's, facebook bitcoin/crypto trading groups and mostly in twitter. Someone who's been into crypto for even a week can give a drastic analysis after learning on how the market is playing with its investors. There are also factors that are making these coins growth possible when there are positive news that are coming out, like adoption of a company or any support that it will be getting.

That is not enough, we are talking about economics here and there is not an easy way to predict how a coin is going to react to the markets, if you look at other industries you will find several examples of good products that failed, and you will find examples of several products that were terrible that got lots of profits, so you cannot just look at the components of icos and predict their performance.

No one is saying that a web app would be enough to tell you where to put your money, but more so to help speed up the process of research. There are so many coins coming on the market, filtering through to find the ones with growth potential is essential.

From my experience in business; there is always a winning formula; experts know this and it's what they use to find coins of interest; on top of that they do their own business case analysis to determine to invest or not.

Issue with crypto is due to volatility metrics are hard to be useful. Determining a coin's growth is very subjective and usually based on news, team, et cetera. However, you can use Market Cap and Circulating Supply and help determine how it could potentially get.
