Did he say he wanted to create a crypto or use one? I haven't seen anything concrete regarding it. There was also a Bitcoin ATM at that gathering (not that that means anything but it's cool he has one).

At least his alt coin would have a huge amount of street creds among people not in love with what happened to him. As long as it is open, Kimcoin can't be worse than dogecoin

He had recently hosted a gathering for the New Zealand Internet Party members. There he put forward the suggestion of creating a national crypto-currency for New Zealand. I haven't heard about it after that.

Did he? The article I saw it seemed like people had just assumed he wanted to create his own coin, unless he's said otherwise elsewhere.

Can't trust him. He made that tweet about Bitcoin debit cards more than a month ago. A few days later, he talked about creating his own coin, some type of shitcoin. So, can we trust him?

He already has some coins I think, but throwing a load more cash into the system would be great.

Darkweb is fully encrypted now with new methods that are too advanced to even talk about.

"Anonymous" is largely a bunch of basement-dwelling script kiddies ddos-ing websites. Hardly revolutionaries.

Anyway, for those who aren't bothered to watch the video, Anonymous is a "hacker" group whose aim is to promote internet freedom, and attacks government websites when they try to control internet. Like when the FBI shut down megaupload, the US government sites and servers were down for a long time.

I just wish they would be more active NOW: NSA, etc, etc, than just LOL with sarah palin's email. They should trust NO government no matter its so called "political color".

Megaupload founder and web tycoon Kim Dotcom is launching registration for his New Zealand political party on Monday. Tickets for his 40th birthday, coinciding with the launch, went in minutes, with more than 15,000 people planning to attend.

Dotcom, born in Germany as Kim Schmitz, told The Associated Press in an interview published Tuesday that he is founding and funding the party, but will himself not stand as a candidate. From Monday a party website and mobile app will be launched, and will begin registering members. By law, New Zealand requires 500 paid-up members to be registered before a party is formed.

While a resident of New Zealand, Dotcom is not able to stand as a candidate for political office as he does not have citizenship.

“The party website with information about our vision & candidates will launch with another BIG event on Jan 20, 2014. Second raid anniversary,” Dotcom announced in September. He followed it up with a tweet posted Tuesday: “We are going to make politics exciting.”

“My political party will activate non-voters, the youth, the Internet electorate,” he added.

Dotcom’s 40th celebration on January 20 – the day before his birthday – initially had 2,000 free invitations available to the general public. However, the run on invites meant that it reached full capacity within a matter of minutes, forcing Dotcom to switch venues after the number registering to attend through the twitter tag #PartyParty broke the 15,000 milestone.

Its new base, in Vector Arena in Auckland, can hold over 20,000. At the show, Dotcom will also be launching his new “Good Times” album.

The thousands-strong party will mark the two-year anniversary of the FBI and New Zealand authorities’ raid on Dotcom’s house. The search saw Dotcom arrested and his assets, including a luxury car collection, seized, with Dotcom himself being accused of conspiracy to commit copyright infringement.

The US government has been seeking to get him extradited, with his hearing first delayed until April, and then July. Dotcom’s ongoing legal battles have also seen him suing a New Zealand spy agency for spying.

Dotcom has been deeply and vocally critical of global surveillance practices. “Depending on how well it tickles the fancies of some of the more radical, marginalized, and disillusioned voters and non-voters, the so-called Mega Party could have a huge impact on who forms the next government,” wrote Bryce Edwards, a political commentator and lecturer at the University of Otago, New Zealand. However, Edwards also stated that the new party is “far from certain to get into Parliament.”

Megaupload was a haven for file-sharers until it was shut down by the US government in 2012. At the point of its closure, it was getting some 50 million users on a daily basis. Since its closure, Dotcom has founded a new file hosting site, called Mega.

Yeah, but Youtube is massive business owned by a corporation. Mega was owned by Kim Dotcom and Hollywood had a bee in their bonnet and went out of their way to set an example. I hope they fail miserably and have to pay Kim millions.

Never heard of this guy, but remembers Megaload. I have no idea has was arrested this way. There is something wrong about arresting a techguy with a SWAT team? and roadblocks to take a car from a granny?

It seems the case hinges on the fact that "they know there is copyright infringing material on their servers and they didn't do anything about it". There are copyright infringing material on Youtube all the time!? and these material get emailed around too, are they going to hit Microsoft/Yahoo/Gmail with a SWAT team?

Why was his mom got in trouble all the way in Germany in her home, road blocks all around for mega upload?

Did anyone watch the segment on 60 Minutes about Kim Dotcom?  Hubby thought I should watch it because I did not know that much about him.  It is pretty messed up how they went after him for just providing a service for uploading things.  I never used Megaupload but it seemed like it was a successful web site that provided an important service for people to put up various personal videos. Sure, people may decide to use it for things that it was not intended to be used for but Kim Dotcom was not the one uploading copyrighted things.  Why don't they go after Youtube too then?  They have the same kind of service.   60 Minutes did not even defend Kim either.  I found it highly disturbing that the USA thinks they are doing a "service" to the world by going after Kim too.  Pretty depressing.
