Nice view, but unfortunately not everyone can afford luxury. Calculated only for wealthy people.

The situation is the same in all the nations in this world. There is a part of the population which lives in luxury, and there is another portion which lives in abject poverty. And the majority of the population always fall between these two categories, constituting the middle-class. However, in North Korea, the poor outnumber the middle class by a wide margin.

Yes. It has always been so, there must be a balance between the poor and the rich. But in this country they do not worry at all about the economic situation of the population.

Even Kim Jong Un needs to worry about the economic situation in his country. Else, the people will rise up in revolt and topple him. That is the only reason he has granted some freedom for the general population recently as far as small time trade and privately owned business is concerned.

I have been to many countries and I want to tell you that a lot of middle class people is only in the countries with developed democracy. As a rule in a totalitarian, corrupt and underdeveloped countries there is no middle class. There is, or very poor or very rich. The ratio 99% to 1%.

It is better to live in poverty in China than return to North Korea.

LOL
Why they need to "return to North Korea"?
Korea is one land, just "South Korea" not allow to Koreans entry to Korea.
Children born out of Korea have troubles to enter in South Korea.

What is Your point?

Why China Korean community population of 2 million people?

They prefer to not become the Japanese name and sintoism conversion, and flied away from Japanese occupation.

But before of this, Koreans escaped from Korea in front of hard economic situation. Other are people displaced for forced works.

What fit not in this number?
The Japanese army was destroyed in 1945. Why Koreans returned to their homeland? Some time was the devastation is clear. Then the war with the Americans and again devastation and now prevents? I have to say. They do not like and do not support Kim. It is better to live in poverty in China than return to North Korea.

Chinese people like to travel to DPRK.

Probably ethnic Koreans from China. There is a very large Korean community in North-east China numbering close to 2 million. There is even an autonomous area designated for these people in China, known as the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture.
In recent years, the national self-image of Chinese Koreans influenced by the intensive development of relations of China with the Republic of Korea (not to be confused with North Korea). This country perceive China as an example to follow, so that Chinese Koreans are proud of their national roots. Equally important is the fact that from South Korea to China sent more than 10% of all South Korean exports. China is currently the second largest (after the USA) the South Korean investments. Do you think they will support Kim Jong-UN?

For the Chinese, the political goals are more important than the economic goals. The Chinese would never prefer the South Korean regime over the North Koreans, because South Korea is one of the most important allies of United States in the region. In addition to that, Chinese companies own most of the mines and other businesses in North Korea. The Chinese government want this to continue in the long term.

I have to agree. They don't want us to have a stable footing in the region (they get nervous whenever US assets get too close to a Chinese 'border'. They have dragged their feet in this when it has been clear that an economic sanction from their biggest trading partner might have more effect. But it seems they enjoy the uncertainty that the situation brings, I guess they don't have alot to lose until NK get a regime change. And now that it's actually on the table, notice the line against NK from China has gotten slightly harder.

"Moving to New Flats in Ryomyong Street Begins

Educators and researchers of Kim Il Sung University and those who had been evacuated began moving into new flats in Ryomyong Street on Monday. Students congratulated teachers moving to new flats, presenting them with bouquets.
The teachers and researchers were full of thanks to respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. Those evacuees, too, hardly repressed their excitement at moving to new houses."

Kim Jong-Un unveiled a massive skyscraper complex during a ceremony in Pyongyang on Thursday.
Thousands of cheering North Koreans watched as their leader opened the Ryomyong Street development, which includes more than 5,000 flats.

I observed that you are a keen observer on what is happening on North Korea and I thank you for that. This way we can get a glimpse on how a closed country develops itself and how they are moving as a community. As a leader creating complex structures for the use and good of the public is a positive side that a leader should have and hope North Korea will focus on their development and not on having conflict with other countries.
The impression that you just arrived from Mars! LOL! North Korea is on the verge of war with the United States, and you're talking about the development of this country. Until North Korea does not change the ruling regime, it is doomed to failure.

I do not think that in order to hit one target more than 10 missiles. To produce 500 missiles for Americans will not be a big problem. In addition to the blast-off very vulnerable and if the Americans know the location of all missiles, the task will be even easier.

First of all, I don't think that the Americans have the knowledge about the location of all these warheads. I don't think that they are even aware about how many nukes the DPRK is having right now. And even if they know the location, there is no guarantee that these weapons will not be moved somewhere, before the attack happens.

Wait - didnt you say several time last week that NK has 50 nukes? Roll Eyes

Where are they getting the funds to build skyscrapers? I thought there were sanctions against them and they were a poor country. And who is going to live in these flats if they are all poor?

The revenues comes from the export of coal and other natural resources such as rare earth minerals. Also, tens of thousands of North Korean slave laborers are employed in nations such as Russia. They also contribute to the remittance flows.

I wonder how this would turn out. The American's are starting to position their ships. China Air, the only other airline that flies to North Korea, has cancelled all flights.

This is what he should focused on instead of beating war drums with the west and his own brothers'  the south Korean. After spending some fund on this and war broke out between them and west what will happen to those things he is building. He should also think how many of his people that will die during war and suspend this idea of war he always have and focus on developing the country.
what are you talking about? I watched an espionage video about the lives of citizens of North Korea, so people there consider their head to be a god and that he was born in space. I understand that this is nonsense, but people believe it.

Cult of personality is always disturbing, wherever it may show up.

It is quite impressive, I've to say. But I am saddened by the fact that just 10% of the North Korean population is living in luxury, while the remaining 90% is reduced to slave labor and starvation.
Why are you surprised? In your Russia other proportion? I doubt it. Wherever those in power are dictators in this situation. This is probably because poor people are easier to manage. And the people themselves are afraid of losing a breadwinner

Well, they're just getting by. The only reason a government would make compromises with its people is if they actually require the people to earn money. Which is also why being rich in resources wouldn't exactly make the people richer.

For me North Korea is the Museum of communism. This is especially well illustrated by the contrast with South Korea. Nuclear weapons I would certainly be destroyed, and Kim Jong-UN would not touch. Let all the other countries and people see what will happen to them if they try to build communism.

Analysts estimate that the DPRK is having somewhere around 50 nuclear weapons. These weapons will be stored in different locations, and therefore I don't think that it will be possible to destroy them at once.

But the people that live in this city are probably just going to be government bureaucrats, or paid actors that are just there to make it look like to us that something is actual going on in the communist regime that is run by someone who I think just goes on temper tantrums.

Right here bud, how could a country be building such things without just fabricating it to fake some stuff? - Everyone there is starving or just living a horrid life.

So this is isn't a country with innovation, I still think that this place is stuck in the cold war era and isn't going to get out under this regime.
