I ended up rooting my device using Towelroot by following the instructions on XDA developers

Then I installed Cerberus through the Terminal Emulator.

Thanks all that helped.

I prefer Zakir over Muhammed when mentioning me!
I know that's not the solution that you are looking for but apparently Towelroot allow you to root your Note 10.1 without triggering Knox's counter (at least on Android 4.4.2).

Try to download and install this custom recovery : http://techerrata.com/bigbiff/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-lt03ltexx.img.tar . After that, download flashable zip from https://www.cerberusapp.com/download.php . And flash it through recovery mod. Roll Eyes I hope this helps!

P.S. You will have to extract TWRP file before copying to Tab and then flash it because only .zip file can be used for flashing. Smiley

Without rooting your device I don't think it is possible.

Yep this is correct, without rooting it is impossible.
If you root though, it's very easy to unroot it.

Hi, usually rooting will temporary void the warranty on the majority of android devices, since it's a reversible action and you can bring back to the stock ROM (no root neither custom recovery).

Unfortunatly samsung is using a system to verify if you have ever rooted your device, called knox, but here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52777534&postcount=2) seems that if you need assistence for a non-software derivated problem, samsung still apply the standard free repair service, so personally i would root my samsung device without being worried too much.

I have an Android tablet (Samsung SM-P605) and I wanted to install the Cerberus application on it, but since I'm new to this, I needed help.

I know how to grab it from the Google Play store, but that's not what I'm looking for. I want to install Cerberus as a system application, so even after a factory/hard reset, the tablet will still have the app on the phone.

I'm looking for the extra features listed on their FAQ:

  • I have a rooted device. Can I get additional features?
Yes! If you have rooted your device you can integrate Cerberus into your ROM and get two additional features: complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will even survive a wipe/factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling even on Android 2.3.3 and later. To have these features uninstall Cerberus, then download cerberus.zip, put it on the sd card and install it from recovery. Cerberus is also available on ROM Manager.

I don't want to root my device as it voids my warranty, is there an alternative way?

This is what their FAQ said:

  • I don't want to root my device, but it has an unlocked bootloader. Can I have the root features anyway?
Yes! You have to install a custom recovery first (google "your device model custom recovery" for more info). Then download cerberus.zip, rename it to update.zip and put it on the sd card. Reboot into recovery and install it.

That's not very helpful, I tried googling "Sm-P605 custom recovery" and I got nothing but instructions on how to root my phone, which is against what I was looking for!

Please help me!!! Sad

Apparently, it triggers "KNOX" to "0x1" which means the device will be marked rooted, voiding my warranty!
