I knew it this would fail. Arranging a BTC meet in Kolkata is a nightmare. Next time if you want to organize the meet send me a FB message / skype message / PM here I will try to see if I can co-ordinate.

yes even I'm eager to know the outcome of the meetup. How many turned up? Was legendster's prediction wrong?

As usual there were new set of people and the old ones were not available. I am having the same experience every time I am arranging a meetup. So, in effect, every time it is remaining as an introduction phase. All I can say, there are many bitcoiners in Kolkata and surrounding. Some attend meetup while some just communicate with me over phone/FB. But, there is no well organized group so far...

Getting a new set of people is not bad at all.
It shows that people are still getting attracted to Bitcoin, in spite of the price drop over the last year.

In any case thumbs up for arranging it and keep it up mate.

Might be a good idea to have a hangout enabled for the event as well .
Was a good idea for the last meetup in delhi as well.

It is a bit difficult to organize an online hangout from the public place we are meeting. Did you guys meet at any public place or someone's home at Delhi ?

yeah, it was an office I think, but a room . Yeah would be difficult if its a public place. But its always a good idea to have a laptop to demonstrate things to someone new to bitcoin in the meetup. Because people do pop up randomly, by seeing a meetup on meetup.com.

Remember this is Kolkata you are talking about and these are Bengalis that you are dealing with.

You should really stop generalizing.

It doesnt matter if I generalize or not, meetup is a popular site for people that know the site and if someone is interested then by all means 'pop up' at the venue, I just dont think people will come in a kolkata meet.

You should go troll somewhere else and not on every thread you come across.

Troll ? lol buddy I am talking from experience people here are not of the same mentality that you find in mumbai or bangalore or any other major city. People here are not so free minded that they will randomly pop up on a meetup event. It just doesnt happen here. Most bengali internet users dont even know meetup exist.

No offence.

In 2014 I have organized 2 bitcoin meetup in Kolkata and there were attendees. People wanted to have weekly or at least monthly meetup. But, that was not possible due to my time constraint. That's all I can say. Smiley

Nice initiative. I'd urge, each & everyone in and around Kolkata should attend this meetup. Once a few people show up, more will join. Try to reach out the engineering college communities in Bengal.

Good idea.
I am sure there will be a lot of enthusiasts in IIT Kgp and possibly IIMC.

My prediction : This meetup wont be successful.

Depends on how you define success. But it looks like whether it becomes successful or not, you dont want it to be successful !!!

Quite the contrary actually, if the meetups here actually had any potential I would be the first guy who'd try to attend them.

Even if it gets a few people talking about Bitcoin, I would say it is not a failure.

Adding an online google hangout stream is always a good idea. Even in the Delhi meetup last year, we had 6 people on google hangout and only 4 people who showed up in the physical meetup. Anyone know where is subvolatil these days ?

You should always add "no offence" to statements like this.  Tongue
I too would have assumed that bitcoin users would be concentrated in cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad.
No offence added.

Yes, Hyderabad, Bangalore and DELHI. We have a lot of bitcoins in Delhi also.

Nope, most of us are still eating curd & rice while reading a bengali version of Tolkien's work.

I would have attended it if there were any serious attendees attending this meetup, I am really contemplating bringing back a new Krogyan but this time not as an exchange, so any investors willing to talk about it can pm me and schedule to meet me in this event if interested.
