It be nice if Kracken had a clear list of what countries they are allowed to operate in and from where users can complete verification.
You could just email them. That's what I did, got a reply within a few days. Their verification is extremely easy, incidentally. Name, address, basic info. No pictures of government ID required. Took about a day to process for me.

You do need to provide ID documents if you want to deposit/withdraw more than $2K (or the equivalent in other currencies, including cryptos) per day.
Sure, bigger amounts require more bullshit. But for small time trading, which is where most of us fall, it's easy and fast to get set up.

They must have balls of steel or really great programmers. Really I mean MtGox makes millions and they can't afford to hire some decent talent ?
It's not really a matter of "can afford". Many problems of this sort are not expensive or even particularly difficult to fix, some people are just incompetent. Gox could have fixed this years ago, they just chose to ignore it.

Bitcoin-central.net is not affected either as it is holding 100% in cold storage and checking all withdrawals (lessons learned from past experience with customer-facing hot wallets).

Posting to confirm that kraken is apparently working. Sent 0.5 btc, sold at $700, bought back a little lower and withdrew the whole thing back to my wallet. No problems and as fast as ever.

Odd things happening. Just sent 0.5 btc to kraken, exactly 10 minutes later I received 2 separate deposits in my wallet for 0.00000001 btc each. I believe the address it came from belongs to kraken but remembering random alphanumerical addresses is hard so not 100%. They are still showing only seen by 1 peer 11 minutes later, the 0.5 I sent have 13 peers and 0 confirmations after 21 minutes. Anyone know what this might be?

Someone is spamming the blockchain with 1 satoshi transactions: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-many-people-have-received-random-00000001-transactions-to-their-wallets-459529

It's completely unrelated to Kraken, any address that shows up on the blockchain might receive this spam.

but now many other exchanges also working ok like bitstamp and mtgox but still they need to do some more about security

They will, it means by the end of the week the infrastructure will be even stronger. bitcoin protocol is not broken, just the exchanges need to tighten up their systems.

No problem  Grin

Seems some of the exchanges have decent coders after all!

Kraken seems to have the best in everything.

Fastest withdrawals (few hours and I got the money in my fidor account). Same for deposits. Fees are fine, engine is nice, availability is great. The only thing that could be faster is the customer support but at least they solve your problems within 1-2 messages.
