I posted this in the Arabic local board, but I'll post it here again, in case someone faces the same problem in the future:

I reached out to the support team, and after I made it clear that I won't be sending my personal documents, they asked me for screenshots for the assets overview, trading, and deposit/withdrawal history pages. My account got unlocked shortly after I sent the screenshots and I managed to withdraw the funds without any issues.

what is annoying in some exchanges is that they do have a trading password aside from the login password. this makes it difficult that you need to remember both and their system doesn't allow you to have the same login and trading password.
You should use a password manager then, just make sure you create a strong master password and remember it. This should help you with the remembering part. As long as you don't use a centralized and prone to hack password manager, it should be fine.

they got your data though. just keep them as an option. you're better just keeping them than registering to another exchange.

They don't, I have not KYCed myself on Kucoin, all they have is my IP address and email address, the only reason I used them was to buy a few coins that were not listed on Binance, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to submit my documents for a silly reason like forgetting my trading password, so, it's a "good bye Kucoin" for me.

probably a precaution that's necessary on their part. i have experienced it myself with finance upon losing my phone that i have to submit documents once again. what is annoying in some exchanges is that they do have a trading password aside from the login password. this makes it difficult that you need to remember both and their system doesn't allow you to have the same login and trading password.

Can you trade using API or any third-part bot? If that possible  you can trade ignore kucoin traing GUI.
If you can withdraw it will not be considered a problem. Withdraw, create a new account and do not use trading password.
It will be annoying if you cannot withdraw your money.

He can't, I had some coins on that exchange and after reading Omega's post in the Arabic section I went ahead and decided to withdraw them as I can't trust an exchange with such behavior/rules, luckily I did remember my trading password, the weird thing is that it's also required for withdrawal, so if you forget it, your funds will be stuck there forever until you do the KYC b.s.

I got my funds out of that exchange, and probably never going back to it, ever again.

Once you activate the trading password, you will be asked for it during API key creation too. What even surprised me sometime back is that whenever I would withdraw from my account on the mobile app, they don't ask for my 2FA code. As soon as I enter my trading password, withdrawal is processed.

It's like they rank the trading password much highly than 2FA code in terms of security of one's account.

According to this, it looks like they take trading password too seriously.
Once you decide to reset it, they are going to ask for verification  Shocked

Part 3:  How to Reset the Trading Password

If you forgot the trading password, please have it reset in the account. Please select "Account Security" under the avatar, choose "Security Settings", find "Change" button, then click "Forgot Trading Password?" to complete the verification steps and submit the request. Your request will be approved in 1-3 days.

Note:
1. Please upload the requested identity verification photos or we won’t accept your request.
2. To ensure your account security, the withdrawal services on KuCoin and KuCoin Future and P2P Fiat Trade selling service will be temporarily closed for 24 hours after the setting is approved.
3. The trading password will be reset immediately after the approval. If you receive the notification email, please refresh the page to check.

I have seen a couple of complaints like yours on reddit. It looks like a norm to them (kucoin). Honestly, I didn't know they are this strict about resetting the trading password until your post. It's definitely opened my eyes.

So I haven't used Kucoin for some time, and now after I made a deposit, and transferred the funds to my trading account, I realized that I needed a trading password (which I forgot).

I tried to reset the password by entering my 2FA (phone) and the code sent to my email, and I was surprised that I got asked to verify my identity in order to complete the password reset process. Can someone confirm that's normal? I'm a bit confused here. It would've made more sense to ask me for my ID if I already verified the account, but that's not the case here.

I don't understand why would they ask you for kyc verification for trading password you forgot, and it's never good to forgot password so you better back that up next time.
I do have a Kucoin exchange account but I didn't use it for a long time, I don't like how it works and I also remember they recently got hacked big time.

If you didn't have any coins left on exchange, my suggestion would be to simply open a new account and forget about the old one since you never passed verification there.

Similar case with me before, but i have lose the 2FA because my device got re-installed so i have to ask kucoin support to reset my 2FA. They didn't ask my identity or KYC, they were only asking me to provide some proofs like old emails from kucoin to my email to prove i'm the owner of that registered email on my kucoin account. After they checked it, they reset my 2FA immediatelly
