Elaborating some more on electrical costs, I know there are areas where things like "transmission fees", etc are charged onto your bill, usually in Rural areas here in the US (and they can be pretty costly). I can't suggest highly enough to find what those costs are as they make or break mining.


This were the most noticeable

seen some locations that the cost per kw is almost equivalent on cost to other fees

Lets say 648kwh * $0.10 = $64.85

Other fees, like Distribution charge, Transmission charge, system loss, taxes etc = 60$

so basically 0.10cents /kwh is not the actual cost

If anyone here's looking for a more accurate estimate there are sites on the Internet that show you electrical costs for your Zip code (I know several for my area, and I live in the US), and I find those are near what I pay for my electrical costs. I assume there's tools like the one I stated in other countries, though I can't speak about accuracy on other sites if they exist.

Overall nice guide and formatting, I haven't seen an explanation thread for kWh for as long as I can remember being on the forums, and it's quintessential in mining. Good work!

Some countries have different prices for each state/territory. Anyway, I guess that alphabetical is better to find the country, it is an estimated information, if you want to know the accurate price of your kWh you have to see at your billing or contact the energy company for your territory.

Solar energy is a good idea, but it is not for everyone. Some people live in an apartment and cannot install the solar panels.
Also, some countries, the solar system is very expensive and the ROI only comes with some years.

What is a Kilowatt Hour or kWh?

The kilowatt hour is a unit of energy equal to 3.6 megajoules. If the energy is being transmitted or used at a constant rate (power) over a period of time, the total energy in kilowatt hours is equal to the power in kilowatts multiplied by the time in hours. The kilowatt hour is commonly used as a billing unit for energy delivered to consumers by electric utilities.

A kWh is a measure of how much energy you’re using.
It is simply a unit of measurement that equals the amount of energy you would use if you kept a 1,000 watt appliance running for an hour.




Energy consumption

The energy E in kilowatt-hours (kWh) per day is equal to the power P in watts (W) times number of usage hours per day t divided by 1000 watts per kilowatt:

E(kWh/day) = P(W) × t(h/day) / 1000(W/kW)

So if you switched on a 100 watt light bulb, it would take 10 hours to rack up 1 kWh of energy.
Or a 2,000 watt appliance would use 1 kWh in just half an hour.
While a 50 watt item could stay on for 20 hours before it used 1 kWh.

If you have a RIG or ASIC at 900W your consumption will be:
900W * 24h = 21.600Wh or 21.6kWh/day (1 kWh = 1000Wh)
21.6kWh * 30 = 648 kWh/month

You can calculate the final price by multipling the consumption of 648 kWh by the price of your kWh, usually you can find this information on your billing.

We will take the price of $0.10 for the exemple so final price will be:
648kwh * $0.10 = $64.85

Some country and territory may have extra fee and taxes for high consumption that increase the final cost.
For accurate consumption you need a tool like kill-a-watt to measure it in real time.
