Cutting the end off, stripping the wire a bit so I can attach to the breakout board, and potentially take the 4 wires out leaving just 2, and connecting the 2 wires to the breakout board.

Seems like it will provide enough watts / amps for each board... so I might just try it and see considering I got the breakout boards coming potentially today or tomorrow...

Think that sounds ok?

I am making my PCI cables for server supplies with only 2 cables each plug using 1.5mm2 cable.

I have 27 sets to make for the new setup!  Shocked

I wasted so much time making 6 cable plugs it rediculous!

As long as the cable rating is well over what each plug is supplying the 2 pin cables will be fine.

Fuuuuck didn't realise this place existed!!!!!! I would have but already have the breakout boards being delivered.

Just need to work out how to power them properly via PCI-E - but sounds like I can just use standard 6 pin PCI-E cables and only use 2 of the wires on each...

If you can wait why dont you buy one from a member on here called "sidehack" he makes breakout boards to fit the dos server psus with 12 6pin connectors on. I have two of them. Great baords and great quality. You could also try www.bitshopper.de as he stocks the boards made by sidehack in his store. I bought mine and associated cables from there.

Also DONT reduce the number of cables per 6pin plug, you are asking for trouble (fire) if you overload a single wire.

Damn. Ok solid point, will check it out and make sure there's enough power if I just used two leads per connector. Just thought they were separate leads somehow. But would make my life a lot easier if they're the same type just with fewer leads!

I believe so since the 2-wire cables are advertised to be working with popular ASICs.

Ah right, I thought the 2 lead one was thicker or something and so could provide more power. But you reckon it's just the same but only 2 leads? Guess that makes sense...

It should be all good though, just remove the other 4 cables from the 6 of the PCI-E, you can see the difference (6 vs 2 wires):




So only the middle two wires matter, the rest doesn't need to be plugged in.

You need 1 lead going into 1 slot. You won't be able to fit 3 leads (3x1.291mm diameter) into the breaker as it can only handle wires up to 14 AWG (1.628mm diameter).

The first PCI-E cables you linked only have 2 wires so those two should be enough.

Cool thanks a bunch! Yeah sounds like in theory it could work but I don't know enough about this stuff to say for sure.

But yeah as you say, 9 negative (3 leads in one slot) + 9 positive (3 leads in one slot) - in theory might work?Huh

I don't have ASICs but I don't see any issues with your setup as long as you plug each of the 12V leads into different slots on the breaker (like on the pic but with 9+9) and if you properly cut and prepare the leads.

Basically, the L3+ apparently has 4 boards each of which requiring 2 x 12V PCI-E connections (and the 9th to power the controller board). So essentially 800w/8 =100 watts per 12V PCI-E which is 8.3 amps and 16AWG wires are rated much higher than that (16A maybe?).

Maybe others can chip in as well.

Hi all,

So i've bought this breakout board for my 1200w HP server: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/breakout-board-adapter-compatible-with-hp-1200-watt-dps-1200fb/

In order to power a L3+ miner that needs 9 PCI-E connectors. I think i'm right in saying that I need to use this type of PCI-E cable: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/26in-pci-e-cable-made-of-high-quality-14-awg-stranded-copper/

As there are limited slots on the breakout board. Miner requires 800w to power.

However, it's a nightmare trying to find the above cable in the UK. So I was wondering if I could use a 'standard' PCI-E cable: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/24-inch-16awg-6-pin-male-to-8-pin-62-male-pcie-power-cable/

And fit 6 leads into one slot on the breakout board like:

Is this possible?
