It's not that easy I guess. The Champions League is Ancelotti's final challenge this season after failing in La Liga. Manchester City are not going to make the same mistake two seasons in a row and they may have prepared everything to win the second leg.

Ancelotti's failure in La Liga was his own fault because he thought he could rely on all the players available for a full season. Barcelona started the season well and I can't say Barcelona started the season slowly, even though at the beginning of the season Barcelona experienced some problems regarding player registration but in the end these problems were resolved quickly and well too. So yes, basically Xavi managed to recover Barcelona, and we also can't relate that to Barcelona's achievements in Europe over the last two seasons because Xavi also still needs time.

I beg to differ with your claim, right before the group play of the Champions League, Real Madrid lost lots of matches to some mid teams they should have terminated on first sight, and in the group stage, they were having on and off in some of their Laliga matches while Barcelona was hitting many matches that comes there way and when Benzema becomes injured, everything wasn't the way it supposes to be. So, I don't think the Champions League has anything to do with their performance in Laliga, however, at a point between the group stage and quarterfinal, Real Madrid realized that Barcelona's points are becoming hard to meet up and they became even worse in their matches as if their spirit isn't longer there for Laliga Trophy.
