OK, I've changed it to "language distribution" and have included Italian.
I've also put in some links related to general language distrubtion and regional/country distribution so people can draw their own conclusions.

I was not able to find the total no. of English posts. We could also look for the total no. of posts (- foreign language) on the forum. Could also be interesting.

Sorry, it took me so long. I still haven't found my Bitcoins that got lost on bitcoin-24.com...

Empty vessels make most noise.
Maybe change the title to 'Native Language' distribution? All this is telling me (unless I'm missing something?) is that more Russians prefer Russian, than Germans prefer German. Also, most EU country members speak better English, than us English do (grammatical errors intended) Grin

post the same with US included please.
Well, English is not equal to "US" (or UK). It could be people from any country. Therefore I didn't find the no. of English language posts relevant for evaluating country based distribution.

You see, this is the kind of error I wanted to prevent, identifying Languages and Countries.
I don't see what forgetting Italy has to do with identifying Languages and countries.

I simply took the names that were specified in the forum headers. I think, anyone with a fairly decent understanding of geography (i.e. Spanish=LatinAmerica-Brazil+Spain; Portuguese=Portugal+Brazil; German=Germany+Austria+GermanSpeakingSwitzerland...) can figure this out by themselves.

Before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusions about some european countries jumping on the bitcoin:
Only 11% of Spanish speaking population lives in Spain.
Only 5% of Portuguese speaking population lives in Portugal.
Yeah, obviously. So, English is pointless. However, esp. China will be very interesting how it develops. Also, Spanish=LatinAmerica+Spain, so it is still very interesting.

"Don't go in the trollbox, trollbox, trollbox"
Obviously you mean foreign languages, assuming English is your mother tongue - right?

Confused me a little there (not too difficult I must admit).

Hi folks

I've pulled together the no. of forum posts in different languages and put it in a table. The current language distribution is like this:

   (Russian)      73603      42,8%
   (German)      42025      24,4%
   (Spanish)      15500      9,0%
   (Italian)      12279      7,1%
   (Portuguese)      9631      5,6%
   (French)      5109      3,0%
   (Chinese)      3446      2,0%
   (Romanian)      2514      1,5%
   Other      2056      1,2%
   Skandinavisk      1995      1,2%
   (Dutch)      1794      1,0%
   India      1753      1,0%
   (Hebrew)      102      0,1%
   (Korean)      98      0,1%

Feel free to put this in relation to
... the general distribution of languages in the internet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_used_on_the_Internet
... the languages spoken in different countries/regions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers
... change of distribution over time
.... AND: feel free to draw your own conclusions! Smiley

best regards
