litecoin is scrypt, as opposed to bitcoin's sha256. scrypt is a more memory intensive algorithm, and takes more power than sha256. the cards will be hotter and draw more electricity.
What about LTC? I am a total noob when it comes to litecoin, but Im gonna assume its mined the same way btc is mined. Hows the difficulty with LTC? I would assume its rising quickly along with btc.

It's still profitable to mine on GPUs right NOW - but it's only worth it if you already have the cards setup up and mining. If you order a card online and wait a week for it to come the BTC difficulty will have already jumped 20%. GPU mining probably has 2 months or less. There's no point to learning how to do it now except to just learn the process (since difficulty is skyrocketing so earnings are getting slimmer and slimmer).
Your best bet would be to buy BTC and play around with mining when you get a chance as a hobby if you happen to have the hardware - it's not worth the time to try to setup something new.

Wouldn't recommend laptop mining, best to get a graphics card, and do a custom tower build. I got an old compaq with an old motherboard, I'll be searching for spare parts for that to build a custom tower for mining.

Unless you have an ATI Radeon HD 5xxx GPU or higher, mining will cost you more in electricity than you will earn. Even a $380 video card will make you just 0.06 BTC a day.

Yes you can do it. Is it worth it - well if you really want to kill the laptop then go ahead. Laptops can't handle 24/7 heat buildup the way a well vented PC can. You would earn $20 in BTC and have a dead laptop.
