Just don't open too much-unrecommended site from the anti-virus program that you have and you will be safe, since they destroy your memories and battery.

Hi, I am just looking for some direction on protecting my Laptop with regards to Anti-Virus Etc. My McAfee antivirus has just expired and i was wondering if anyone on here could recommend which is the best protection going forward, should I renew the current one or is there a better more secure one i should be using. Of course, using my laptop for sensitive information for Crypto related activity such as wallets, private keys etc. I want it to be as secure as possible.

Does it even matter what protection there is?

I am relatively new to this so I'm not just being ignorant or lazy I just value your opinion Smiley

Thanks in advance for any information.

Windows defender own antivirus. It works fine for me, You don't need any external software slowing down your PC in 2018.

Or just avoid floatware in general. No need for useless junk and Win10's standard antivirus is more than enough if one knows what they are doing online.

Hi,

Buy another laptop just for your cryptocurrencies, it will maybe costs $200 or even less, put off wifi and bluetooth, install bitdefender, avast or whatever and connect only when trading or opening your wallets.

Don't print on a wireless wifi printer. Secure your mails, install google authenticator on your phone, don't download shit.

Buy a Ledger or Trezor to put the crypto you don't want to trade.

One Account = One mail (with strong passwords and 2FA)

Use McAfee, don’t watch naughty stuff or anything on your pc, but stream a little and watch streams. Rather be safe than sorry.

Common sense does not work in this day and age. Sites get compromised, sketchy ads get through, sometimes people are tired and think an email is legit, etc. There's so many ways to get infected even if you're someone with years of IT experience. Personally I prefer Nod32.

Use Adblock, Noscript, and don't download random shit. Then keep your crypto stash on cold storage wallets and you won't really have to worry about an Antivirus or the like.

just get any well known branded anti-virus within the range where you can afford it.

reason for this is because if you pc is going be to hacked, it will be hacked no matter what.
if not, then it won't be hacked even if you don't have any anti-virus stuff

I've been through a lot of testing of antivirus. For me, what works best, effective and without hassle is Avast Antivirus.
It's virus database is very powerful combined with its simple interface earns my five stars. And best of all, it's free!

For most security issues installing Linux instead of Windows will be the best approach.

If your pc works on Windows 10, then you do not need an anti-virus. The Windows Defender is already a powerful shield.

One of the bests free antiviruses is Comodo. I have been using it for a year now and it is better than Avast, AVG etc.
Why? What are the differences?

I liked using Avast but it was a trial or perhaps was AVG now I can't remember it was only for 30 days. I would like to think it helps a lot but I honestly think it helps less than we think it does. Main thing to protect yourself is to not click fishy looking links those are how most computers get issues with key loggers, malware, spyware and the lot.
