I wonder if they are using MtGox to cash in their coins. lol

Are there any casinos accepting Bitcoin that aren't on Fremont Street with one foot in the grave? Fremont hotels would let you gamble bags of dog turds to keep themselves alive. I stopped going to Fremont Street 20 years ago. The Golden Gate, Vegas Club, Binion's and El Cortez should have been imploded a decade ago. The Golden Nugget is the only Fremont street hotel that isn't a complete rip-off shithole. The Gold Spike looks like the place 90 year old dying gamblers go to play nickel poker. I'd be amazed if the Aria or Wynn accepted bitcoins.

I dont think its a step - good or bad.

An easy way to get free publicity is all.
But good luck to them anyways.

Any business using Bitcoin is good and a step in the right direction.

Now if we can just convince local drug dealers to start accepting Bitcoin we will have come full circle.

A step in the right direction. Hopefully the rest of Vegas will follow suit and that will be a giant leap towards what we're going for here.

Indeed they would accept it! If they IRS will let you pay them in BTCitCoin than of course the Mafia (Casinos') will too!

This makes sense. Gambling has been one of Bitcoins best uses so far.

Additionally, both casinos mentioned in the article aren't exactly the flashiest and most known in the city.

Either way, still one more step forward towards mainstream adoption!

Next step, Derek and Greg Stevens make one of the two establishments a Bitcoin-themed resort. If Bob Stupak were still around, I'm sure he would do it in one of his.

Can you image a bank of Bitcoin-themed slot machines? Hell, how about a row of 6-8 Mega-Satoshi progressive slot machines, linked throughout the state, with a minimum grand prize of X BTC? They could easily display the current exchange rate, for even when if fluctuates every minute nobody would pay it any mind because in high school, if they went, they didn't pay math any mind, otherwise they wouldn't be playing the slot machines.

"It saids right here that this machine pays me back 97.43%, thus I get my money back."

"Fuck that! I rather play the lotto with a 50% return or less because 50 is closer to 1 than 97.blahblahblah is."

"You two guys are idiots, for you can easily hedge your investment if you play both equally. You see 97.43% - 50% = 47.43%, which is even closer to 1."

"Wow! I didn't know you could subtract percentages. I thought you could only do that with real numbers."

"I saw my sister subtract imagine numbers on her homework once, but she was taking calculators classes in college."

"Are you three guys done playing since you're bullshitting? Can't you see there's a line of people dying to play your machines?"

"I'm done! This machine is running cold."

"Me, too. It was hot for a spell, but got cold again."

"I'm also done, even though this machine runs hot and cold equally."

"Let's go play The Three Little Bears machines again."

For a second, I thought it was going to be actual casino portions accepting Bitcoin - but I think we are quite a distance from that sort of ability.

Nice story, I loved the part about the first telephone  Wink

This is one more - tiny - step to establish bitcoin and bring it to a wider audience.

Starting Wednesday, The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino will begin collecting the digital currency that merchants increasingly are starting to accept.

The two downtown Vegas properties, which share an owner, will accept the currency at five locations, including their front desks and the D's Gift Shop. Guests also can use the currency at the D Hotel's American Coney Island hot dog shop and Joe Vicari's Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.

Alas, they won't be able to gamble with them just yet.

The Bitcoin purchases will be processed through BitPay, which allows merchants to accept Bitcoins just as they would Visa, MasterCard or Paypal.

Bitcoins have not yet been widely accepted in the travel industry. But Derek Stevens, CEO of the D and Golden Gate, says he's willing to take a gamble. It is Vegas, after all.

"I'm proud that the D and Golden Gate will be the first casino properties to accept Bitcoin," Stevens says. "We're located in the growing high-tech sector of downtown Las Vegas, and like all things downtown, we're quickly adaptive to new technology. The timing is right for us to launch this initiative."

Stevens says he decided to accept Bitcoins after several patrons asked him to. Tablets programmed with BitPay will now be installed at each cashier.

Perhaps it is apropos for the Golden Gate to adopt the new technology. Built in 1906, it is Vegas' oldest casino. It was also the first property in the city to install a telephone.
