That's what I thought, but after several attempts I receive unsuccessful/incorrect file related messages, which is what prompted my post.

That was last night.

This morning, after a few more reboots and restarts, I finally got the firmware upgraded.

Unfortunately, one of the boards is still not running.

Thanks for the reply

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on a R4.

Not to show my ignorance, but, after I download the firmware/zip file - I extracted the file and can't locate the actual file that I need to use (.tar ?)

Well, I guess I am showing my ignorance....... Huh

No need to extract, just use the *.tar.gz file as flash image

One thing I noticed is the new firmware does not allow overclocking and does not show exact hash board state. If some chip on the hash board are defective, it won't show which ones are. But you can tell by reduced hash rate.

BTW, where can you find HW errors? What are the numbers?

Just wanted to let you know I used to get a lot of HW errors on my 2nd board on one of my R4 miners.

Errors dropped significantly.

Yes I like R4. I have to give  up S9 way too loud. I have R4 for six months. Some of them start having problems. Here are the errors from logs. Do you know whether a new hash board is needed for this type of error?

Below ASIC's core didn't receive all the nonce, they should receive 8 nonce each!

Had not checked for an R4 firmware update for several weeks, but there is definitely one available from Bitmain Support

Click link above to download, or visit the website https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201612090211421457I07aFFE0609

Thanks for the heads up - flashing new firmware now!  Wink

@powrslave

Which image do you use ? The last one from Bitmain site ?

At which frequency you are running your R4 ?

I wasn't getting a lot of hardware errors but upgraded anyway  Grin
This is the best home miner, hope they make more I'd like to heat my entire house this winter. The S9 is too loud I had to get it hosted at giga watt, which isn't a bad thing but it's nice getting free heat in the winter, the R4 is perfect for that.
