Great information for Lending service providers. As i know everybody can create any token on ethereum database. So every lending providers should check the contract address of tokens.

I daresay that this isn't a new trend but a resurrected old trend. It's commonplace in the crypto marketto send fake coins with different contract addresses as originals...

Thanks for bringing it up... We'll be on the lookout

that's why it's somewhat safer to accept only well recognized or established altcoins
tokens are too easy to create and just a way to collect investor funds, tend to be a scam tool
(no-premined) altcoin requires work and cost, the bigger the community the harder it is to die

This is usually why I ask for the address where the tokens are held so that the contract address can be confirm to official or a fake. Hopefully this will be a lesson for anyone accepting tokens to make sure to confirm that the borrower has the tokens AND to make sure the contract address related to the tokens are official and not a fake.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/need-loan-008btc-repay-0096-4736575

Using outdated HYDRO tokens to scam the lender.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/need-1-eth-loan-details-described-4818723

Tried to scam lender with fake UBEX tokens.

Most scammers are trying to use fake tokens to scam lenders but like Parodium said,

Be sure to check the smart contract of any tokens you receive as collateral guys.
