I can't believe how low this is going right now. Is there any objection from OP if it takes two weeks to fund the coin before shipping? Of course, the winning bid and shipping fees would be paid immediately.

Has anyone sent a hybrid crypto to be graded? I am curious how ANACS would view this since they seem to ignore the holograms anyway.

IF bids come in near the end of the auction the auction extends 15 minutes until 15 minutes passes between bids.

and no I do not have a problem if you take 2 weeks to fund the coin as long as your bid and shipping cost is paid in the period specified in the main post.

The tricky thing about these coins is that since there is only 1 coin, it's difficult to compare its price over time since there is only one coin.

And I'm sure this will go for more, but I do think it's kinda funny that the blank itself can go for more than the current bid.

Smoothie has always said he is fine with a delay in funding. I am sure he will not mind (obviously he only ships after funded anyways).

I will bid if

a) you ship the coin unfunded
b) you will fund the coin with 5 BTC I will provide AFTER it has arrived. I will gladly send you the 5 btc beforehand.

reasoning:

a) import duties and VAT is insane plus customs officers are a huge nuisance and, for the most part, anal-retentive mentally retarded robotniks with little to no knowledge of just about anything.
b) funding coming from an adress provided by ad associated with you increases the authenticity of the coin.

could you agree?

cheers

The only alternative would be to use an escrow to hold the 5 BTC (as opposed to me) and that person would fund it. Thus eliminating my ability to hold customer funds.

Let me think on this as I'm not sure if I just found a loop hole in the funding process or not. <----- This would require that a 3rd part be trusted..hmm not sure about this.

To be clear given I am in the US I do not want to violate any money laundering (MSB) laws that FinCEN has put into place regarding bitcoin.
I think the major risk here is that the customer receives the coins and then claims that the coins were never received. The buyer would then potentially have possession of a coin that is not marked buyer funded that was never funded.

Because I send all packages via registered mail that would likely not be a possibiliy as there is a paper trail (chain of custody) and the coins are under lock and key the entire way until they are delivered and signed for.

So anyone claiming the coins never got to them would likely be lying.

I've never had a package go missing and get reported never delivered (and if they were undeliverable they were eventually returned to my address)

But I am still on the fence on that idea. It does carry its own risks as another 3rd party would need to be involved.

Added bold to be clear.

Would they consider the escrow an employee of your company.  If not then bam...trusted escrow recieves the funds , smoothie you ship unfunded.  Once it hits eu escrow funds that address....but then what if they send to the wrong address.  Highly unlikely but look at that .01 casascius lesbian cow had that was accidentaly over funded.  That risk would now be on you.  Interesting though...

Yes that is another risk of the escrow funding the wrong address.

Yup I'm not sure using an escrow to hold the funds would be a viable option.

Let's assume a New York customer orders coins from me, then sends funding amount to 3rd party escrow, would I be in violation of the bit license law of New York?

I tend to think so given my association to the transaction. Not a good thing.

1. The reason I am requiring funding of this coin is because there will only be one (which makes it special) and if someone is an avid collector they would have no problem funding the coin. And yes I would not want someone to buy this coin on the second hand market thinking it is funded when it is not.

2. @Hellot, I have no formula on the coins I require funding vs non-funded options. There have been some times when I have been away from my laser engraver and have had to require coins to be funded before they ship out.

I'd like to know his formula for buyer funded versus not, as well.  I have bought many coins from smoothie both buyer funded and not and I'm not sure what it is.  I have noticed that he insists that his more specialty items are funded.  Before he offered the "roll of dimes" I had asked him to put one together for me and I think he insisted I pre-fund them.  I've bought tubes of brass from him and if I don't care what I get, he doesn't seem to care if it's funded or not.  It's hard to tell.

If there is an ignorant buyer and he gets scammed then smoothie's reputation would get harmed even though he had nothing to do with it. Forcing the coins to be funded prevents this from happening.
Yes. This is the rationale Mick Caldwell used to enforce the integrity of Casascius.

But smoothie does sell other unfunded coins so why not this one?

If the laser etching is done after than it would be possible to laser buyer funded.  Being this isnt the case with this coin im sure its by design.  Maybe there will only be 1 funded and he will make multiple buyer funded ones later maybe not.  Could be a multitude of reasons that maybe smoothie can share on this thread so possible buyers will understand more clearly.

I'm a bit confused on why you are insisting on having it prefunded with 5BTC?

The coin has a face value of 5 BTC and has an intact hologram on the back.  If not funded, what's stopping the winner from representing it as funded, and selling it to an ignorant buyer?

I get that it's the face value, but I figured that you could have just left it up to the buyer to decide to fund it.

And I would hope there are no ignorant buyers buying coins of such a high face value.

I'm a bit confused on why you are insisting on having it prefunded with 5BTC?
I would assume:
1) face value of the coin is 5BTC so it makes sense
2) the holo is already applied and can't be re-marked as "BUYER FUNDED", so it would have to be funded to full amount to be able to match both criteria.

I could be horribly wrong tho... Wink

smoothie hand engraves laser etches them after the sticker is applied, so I don't think #2 is right.

It is nice. But why logo is not centered correctly? Looks a bit unprofessional.
Anyway, I like it, just the logo can be better centered.

Cheers!

I could recenter the hologram but it won't be #100.

If the winner wants me to rehologram the coin to make it more center I have no problem doing that.

Just know that it won't be perfectly centered given the difference in the way Casascius coins are minted (placement of the recess under the hologram).

He explains this in his first hybrid auction: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/lealana-casascius-2011-brass-hybrid-auction-1117919

"One other note is that the hologram is off centered on purpose given the difference in the layout of LEALANA coin metal recess under the holograms when compared to CASASCIUS metal recess placement."

I think this might be why the window on the hologram looks a bit funky on this 5BTC coin.
